The Big Pink are more fun than watching old dudes play Dominos /// The Burning Ear

It’s not often that Pitchfork and I agree, heck even when we do it’s usually for different reasons. Luckily one of those occasions popped up the other day when upon their recommendation I gave a listen to The Big Pink’s “Dominos.” Woah, be careful listening to this while driving. Before you know it you will be doing 95 down a coastal highway in an awesome convertible, arm around ‘the girl,’ as the camera slowly pulls back to reveal the skyline and the end credits to the next summer blockbuster roll. What I am saying here is “Dominos” is epic. Can we get more summer anthems with a quick and easy chorus that we can be singing along to by the end of the song? Enough of this lo-fi fuzz-bore “summer anthem” bullshit, I want fist-pumpers! The other two songs I have heard off of The Big Pink’s debut, A Brief History of Love, unfortunately fall flat for me but the LP comes out September 14th and I am hoping for at least one more gem/jam.

This song is out of this world.... but I've not got into the album at all.

Incidentially, I've just got tickets for the NME tour in Birminghan next February - The Maccabees, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Big Pink and The Drums all on the bill - should be a good one!

Yeah, people keep saying how their sound is so "big" and I wonder if they are listening to the rest of the album. "Dominoes" is soo epic and then the rest is just a bit grating and industrial, almost like a shitty Nine Inch Nails. Weird.

Oh man, that's gonna be a huge day. Time to start hollowing out that leg to smuggle booze in...
