Millencolin – Bullion / 1996

Most of the bands here in Flashback corner were brought to my attention (and yours, I imagine) through their radio play. Millencolin, however, never got radio love and instead reached my ears through my other favorite music discovery medium of the 90s: Compilations. For anywhere from free to five dollars, I could get a flavor of 15 or so new artists and depending on what struck a chord, go from there. It was on an early Vans comp that I discovered “Bullion,” a song that became an instant classic for me. Millencolin are like a Swedish Blink 182 and Life On A Plate was like their Dude Ranch, only without so much attention. There is not much else to say without getting boring with all the great memories I have of listening to this album. If you don’t know it the I’m not sure it’s worth revisiting now. I think you had to be there. And be 14. Kind of a right time, right place kind of thing.
