It’s crazy to think about it but Christmas is right around the corner! However, while most blogs are geeking out over their best of the year/decade lists (umm… it’s not over yet, dudes) I’ve been working to collect a couple X-mas mixes for the holiday season. If you are anything like me you can’t handle getting too deep into Christmas music until the date looms a bit closer, so I figured I would start slow. Today I’ve got a mix of pretty snazzy original Christmas songs by some great artists. Start easing yourself into the holiday spirit and next week we will get into holiday standards covered by great bands. Do I need to mention that this mix fits nicely on a CD or in an iTunes playlist? No, you got that already? Good, good.

Correctamundo, that's one of my favorite all time holiday jams. I probably should have put it in part 2 but I think some people would dispute the original Waitress' version as being a "classic." You all are a tough crowd! But seriously, I like it. Keeps me on my toes.

say, isn't that Slow Club song a cover of one of the tracks off the Phil Spector Christmas album? It's a great version though! Thanks for the music, and sorry for the nit-picking.

Yeah, I do remember reading that. This mix has a few covers but they are not of "classic" christmas songs, if you know what I mean. Anyway, it was just a loose way to split the Xmas jams into 2 smaller chunks. But thanks for the clarification. I am a humble man and always appreciate people getting my facts straight!

I like the concept, but thought I'd point out Julian Casablancas' Christmas song actually isn't original; it's a cover of an SNL skit:

Oh nice, good to know. it wouldn't change the song's placement on this list though. Save Ferris's track is a semi-cover too and SNL songs aren't quite classics... yet :)
