here i go again trying to defend all the things i love

Magenta Lane – Lady Bones

Magenta Lane’s “Love And Greed” has been bouncing around my iTunes for a bit now but never made the TBE cut ’cause I wasn’t sure how much I liked it. I mean, I did, and do, like it, but any band can accidentally make a good song. It was when J Rich dropped his Top 10 of ’09 (with “Lady Bones” at #9) that I realized I needed to dig a little deeper. Well, I only dug about 23 seconds into “Lady Bones” before I realized I had been sorely mistaken. The one-two combo of these two tracks is the kind of dynamism I love in an unknown group. One band, two sounds, three chicks, and I’m for it! (sorry, couldn’t resist) I haven’t tracked down 2009′s Gambling With God yet but in the meantime methinks J Rich might have some insights…

Very nice to choose this jam. [My guess was you'd be posting Phantogram's Mouthful of Diamonds. Maybe sometime soon? :) ]

I'm also on the fence about Love and Greed. Not close to my favorite track on here, but when she repeats the “fall to pieces” line, that part alone is enough to leave the song on a play list. As far as the rest of the album, out of a 10 song track list, the first 7 jams are a great showcase for these ladies to play some high energy rock and also slow it down a little bit too. Gambling With God (in my opinion) tapers off a little starting with the title track, but overall a very solid album.

I've been rocking it a lot while driving, and if you can track down the 3rd album by these awesome ladies, I highly recommend you do the same.

Actually hadn't heard Phantogram yet but consider that done!

And now I have to go get that Magneta Lane album. It's their third? How do bands like this slip under the radar for so long?

Yeah it's their third, but this is my first exposure to them as well. not sure where they have been hiding out at the past few years.

And check out Phantogram. I thought TBE had posted their single “When I'm Small” a while back – if I didnt hear it here first, then no idea how it came to grace my ears. the album is out now and the first two tracks cant get off repeat in the car or on the comp. good stuff.

Hmmm, you definitely didn't find Phantogram here. I have never heard of them. But now I have another of their jams to check out! Thanks J!
