Murder By Death – Foxglove

Murder By Death play haunting whiskey soaked folk that had me using one of their earliest tracks to soundtrack the climax of one of my film-school shorts. I haven’t been very diligent in following their releases in the past 7 years (Jesus, I’m old) but a listen to new single “Foxglove” piqued my interest in the forthcoming LP Good Morning, Magpie. It’s impossible to avoid Johnny Cash comparisons here as Adam Turla’s voice is pretty much a dead ringer to my ears. Luckily this Indiana based quartet pack a deeper arsenal of quality musicianship and each instrument weaves it’s way through this smokey, churning, love song. Below is “Fuego!” from 2008′s Red Of Tooth And Claw and f you are digging their sound so far then I can definitely recommend Good Morning, Magpie. It’s out April 6th and although nothing is as instantly catchy as “Foxglove” it follows the vein of death, lust, and drinking with an air of eerie haze.
