THE DRUMS sing a lot about FOREVER AND and whatEVER but that’s cool cause they have some jams. AMEN.

♫ The Drums – Let’s Go Surfing (previously posted)

If you don’t know The Drums yet then you should. Well, kinda. You see, here is the thing, they have a jam called “Let’s Go Surfing” (below) that was hands down one of last year’s best. Their live show is also epically fun and weird. (I caught them last summer and meant to write about but then life happened. Sorry.) But, as much as I love “Let’s Go Surfing,” the truth is that nothing else they have produced is as epic as that track and probably never will be. In fact, their sound is wholly different from that power jam. Listen to any other Drums song and you’ll hear the twee-50s-beach-rock that I’m talking about. Anyway, enough rambling. Last year’s Summertime! EP didn’t bowl me over but now they’ve released a self-titled full length that is much more robust and listenable. I’m not in love with the album but it has it’s moments, as well as it’s time and place. “Forever And Ever Amen” is one of those highlights that showcases The Drums at their most kinetic and anthemic, which is how I like ‘em best. It’s a love young for youth and naiveté in the summer. An anthem to sing to your sweetie as you finger-snap your way to the diner for a malted.

i haven't really gotten into the album, but am definitely still rockin it out to that remix of their “down by the water” that you posted a while back. decent tunes from these guys, just not my cup of tea.

Yeah, they are a weird bunch. truth is that nothing will beat “Let's Go Surfing” and that “Down By The Water” remix. After those, it's pretty much gonna be all be downhill.

Well after a good EP, the killer “Let's go surfing” and “Down by the water” remix, as well as my personal favorite “I felt so stupid”, the album comes off as a disappointment, kinda in the vein of La Roux and Ellie G. where you got all the good tracks months be4 album is released, but the difference is here some of the greatest are not even on the final album… a turn-off in the end..

    well said.

I prefer the lead singer's previous band Elkland. Very different 90's pop vibe. I saw them tour as the opener for Erasure a few years ago. Soon thereafter they broke up (sadly) and now we're left with one really great album and this crap they are now throwing our way….

Ive never heard such enthusiasm for them before! I'll have to track down some of their tracks.

The album is actually really growing on me though it is taking longer to grow on me than the Summertime! EP.

The Drums are another band I'll be seeing later in the year at the new HMV Institute in Birmingham :)

Hmmm, yeah, i think i need to give the album a few more listens but I just don't know. What I do know is that their live show is hilarious and a definite recommendation so enjoy that!
