Brandon’s TBE Digest is a place where I gather up all the recent jams that are worth a listen (or 10) but don’t necessarily need their own post. Here you will find new tracks by known bands, remixes, covers, and even mashups if they are interesting. My favorites of the lot are in bold.

This may be the last Digest I do like this. I’d really like to take the time to give the best of these tracks the solo post they deserve. If anyone feels strongly about this news leave it in the comments below. Otherwise rock on Wayne and rock on Garth.

♫ Saint Motel – At Least I Have Nothing / New Saint Motel jam. I like. Lets get a full album out, guys!

♫ Arrange – Sun Showers / New Arrange track is as blissfully beautiful as you would expect but I still prefer hearing this guy in full albums. Getting lost in it.

♫ Gotye – Showdown Below My Sombrero / This instrumental bonus track from Making Mirrors is pretty oddball but what do you expect with a title like that?

♫ BBU – Outlaw Culture (Prod. By The Schwarz) / Really? BBU comes back 2 and a half years after “Chi Don’t Dance” with this?

♫ Third Eye Blind – If There Ever Was A Time / Somehow I’m not surprised that it was Third Eye Blind that cooked up an irony-free Occupy anthem.

REMIXES

♫ Kelly Clarkson – Mr Know It All (It’s The DJ Kue Remix!) / CAN’T GO WRONG WITH KUE ON THE REMIX! This guy has been kiiiiling it this year.

Body Language – Holiday (RAC Mix) / RAC kicks the original in the dancin pants! The video is still great though.

♫ My Tiger My Timing – Written In Red (Portasound Remix) / Dangerous driving music! Bouncing in my seat! So good to have Portasound back.

♫ Lana Del Rey – Video Games (Hannes Fischer Video Remix) / Oh man. Spectacular. My favorite remix of a way over-remixed track. Don’t go anywhere before the 2:00 mark.

♫ Dems – Down On You (Hannes Fischer Remix) / One more jam from the emerging talent of Hannes Fischer. This guy is not afraid of keeping it simple. Perfect.

♫ M83 – Midnight City (remixé par Who Killed JR?) / Anyone taking on 2011 mega-jam “Midnight CIty” has a stone pair but laying down your own piano work on the intro is bold. For my money Cape Town’s Who Killed JR pulls it off with flair to spare. This remix is epic! Could be best of the bunch.

♫ Kanye West – Blame Game (Dj Sholz’s Edinburgh bootleg) / DJ Sholz with a 1-2 punch here. The “Blame Game” gets tense.

♫ Frank Ocean – Lovecrimes (Dj Sholz Bootleg) / And “lovecrimes” picks up its pace.

♫ Gigamesh – Red Light (Goldroom Remix) / Summer lives!

♫ The Milk – B-Roads (Byron bootleg) / The Milk have a new track and this is it’s Byron remix but so far nothing is matching their first jams.

COVERS

♫ Jimmy Cliff – Ruby Soho (Rancid cover) / Legendary Jimmy Cliff has a new EP produced by Rancid’s Tim Armstrong. I’m absolutely fine with this.

♫ The Antlers – VCR (The xx cover) / I want new music from The xx!!

♫ Phantogram – Don’t Move / Phantogram return with the Nightlife EP and this is a great sign of the continued sexiness these two are working with.

♫ Body Language – Seeds of Sight / More spaced out sex funk from one of Brooklyn’s finest.

♫ Vacationer – Gone  While not nearly as good as previous track “Trip” this shows good promise of more magic to come from this Body Language collaborator.

♫ Katie Herzig – Free My Mind (RAC Remix) / Like I said yesterday, there is no better introduction to an artist then a RAC mix. Sit back and let this one layer itself upon you like winter clothes on a brisk night.

♫ Humans – Avec Mes Mecs (Joseph Martin Remix) / Yes! Humans’ party anthem gets a body grooving remix treatment!

♫ Duck Sauce – Radio (Bastille Edit) / At least the endless wait for a proper Duck Sauce album is made easier by banging remixes like this from Los Angeles’s Bastille (Not the UK one).

♫ On-The-Go – In The Wind (Simple Symmetry & Lipelis Remix) / Russia’s underrated On-The-Go get a late night coastal drive wind on the face treatment and its niiiiice.

♫ Lana Del Rey – Blue Jeans (Penguin Prison Remix) / So Lana Del Rey is the hottest thing since sliced bread these days (but seriously, she is pretty hot) and we have all been waiting for a Penguin Prison album for like 34 years so this makes sense. Plus it just sounds good.

♫ Foster The People – Call It What You Want The (The Soundmen Remix) / Yes! Someone finally remixing this FTP jam! And it’s The Soundmen so double Yes!

♫ Mayer Hawthorne – A Long Time (Chromeo Remix) / Now this is a combination made in seduction heaven. Get limber! (For dancing, you pervert)

♫ Radio Ink – Rocket (The 14th Minute & Steve Frank Remix) / The 14th Minute do it again. Dance-tastic!

♫ Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Ffunny Frends (The Naked And Famous Remix) / Fast! Crunchy! Woo! Signature Naked and Famous.

♫ Fanfarlo – Replicate (Teletextile Remix) / Even more haunting than the original. I guess taking out the vocals will do that to a jam.

♫ Kanye West vs Washed Out – Diamonds From Far Away (Carlos Serrano Mix) / Not a bad pairing. Next collab, Kanye?

♫ Skrillex vs Capital Cities – Kill Everybody vs Safe and Sound (Soft Spoken mashup) / This song scares me and I still can’t figure out if its in a good way. I don’t know if I like my happy friendly Capital Cities being eaten by the Skrillex monster.

♫ The National – Twenty Miles To NH Part 2 (The Philistines Jr cover) / So that photo from the cover of Boxer is The National playing the wedding of close friend and producer  Peter Katis. Katis is also in a band called The Philistines Jr. The National apparently really like this guy. All I know is that I really like this song.

♫ Class Actress – Silent Night / Yup, its already time for Christmas covers!

♫ Wavves – I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl / Our man Wavves does beach-punk right with this love letter to everyones favorite drummer turned frontman (sorry Travis Barker). Wavves’ Life Sux EP is out now.

♫ Future Islands – Balance / More Future Islands is always a good thing. Their new album On The Water comes out October 11th.

♫ Pearl Jam – Olé / Pearl Jam turn 20 this year and celebrated by giving this new jam that is filled with old PJ flavor.

♫ The Notorious B.I.G – Everyday Struggle (Frogs in Socks BiG Bootleg) / Holy soft footed amphibians, Batman! This is some next level bidness. I can’t stop listening to this.

Kamp! – Cairo (Moullinex Remix) / The best Polish band around returns to form on their new single “Cairo” and then Moullinex takes that form and injects 200 CCs of funky juice into it. Stuck. In. My. Head.

♫ Gotye – Somebody That I Used to Know (feat. Kimbra) (The 14th Minute Remix) / Joel has already posted the Slop Rock remix and Spirit Boy remix of this 2011 Gotye classic and now I have 2 more. I love the swirly synths in this 14th Minute version and the general bounciness added to the affair.

♫ Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know Feat. Kimbra (Hannes Fischer Remix) / Hannes Fischer takes things a bit mellower, injecting a delicately evolving shuffle to the mix. Which of the four remixes are you feeling or is the original just unbeatable (I would understand that)?

♫ The Weeknd – Rolling Stone (Hannes Fischer Remix) / Hannes Fischer continues slowing things down on this mix, rubbing the song into a smoothed out grind for late night drives.

♫ M83 – Midnight City (Big Black Delta Remix) / Back up! Horns coming through! I thought Alcala’s remix was a shoe in for top version but Big Black Delta give him a run for his money with this hyper-horned jet-chase version that eventually falls from the sky and into some dark places.

♫ When Saints Go Machine – Kelly (DISCOFORGIA Remix) / Underrated band of the year (just a few months late, Pitchfork) get a double does of knee-bending grind bounce on their top track.

♫ The Botaniks – Fond of Jane feat. Bernhoft (A Great Paulukka Remix ) / 2011′s reigning #1 remixers get their own top jam  a remix of its own and it’s a funky affair.

♫ Mark Ronson – Record Collection 2012 (feat. MNDR, Pharrell, Wiley & Wretch 32) (LOGO Remix) / It’s a whole new lineup on the Record Collection highlight and while I’m not used to these new verses over my jam it’s a fun mix up.

♫ Toro y Moi – New Beat (Star Slinger Dancehall Mix) / Star Slinger and Toro y Moi make for an ADHD beach party!

♫ The Good Natured – Wolves (Crystal Fighters Remix) / Does anyone actually read this far in? I don’t think so…

♫ Norwegian Recycling – Don’t Stop Believin’ / Norwegian Recycling do their Frankenstein style mashup magic on this classic jam! How many samples can you spot? I’m hearing a lot of my favorite ladies.

COVERS

♫ Tokyo Police Club – All My Friends (LCD Soundsystem Cover) / Tokyo Police Club just finished a 10 day/10 cover project spanning a song each from the past 10 years and this is probably the one most people want their hands on. Other highlights include covers of Gwen Stefani & Moby, Harlem Shakes, Miley Cyrus, and Kelly Clarkson.

♫ Health – GOTH STAR (Pictureplane cover) / I never got into Pictureplane’s original but his recent jam “Post Physical” as well as this top-notch Health cover have me thinking I may have been an idiot.

♫ Casiokids – Gront lys I alle ledd / New Casiokids! I got it off some compilation and while it’s no “Fin Bikkjen”, it’s still too good not to share. Summer lives!

♫ Big Talk – Getaways / The Killers’ drummer (and fellow Vassar alum!) goes solo. What’s not to love? Certainly better than what Travis Barker has been shilling.

♫ Jens Lekman – An Argument With Myself / Jens may not ever be my favorite but he wil always be fun. His lyrics are always a treat.

♫ Game – Drug Test (feat. Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg) / Game’s R.E.D. Album finally came out and it’s not impressing people. This song feels like I need a few drinks to get into it.

♫ Big K.R.I.T. feat Yelawolf – Happy Birthday Hip Hop (Prod. By Big K.R.I.T.) / Didn’t know Hip Hop had a birthday but I guess it would every year. Fair enough. I’ll drink to that. Big K.R.I.T. has a new mixtape to chase it with.

Joe and Will Ask- Voxx44 / I just love the sounds these dudes make. This is the A-side of a new single out now. Debut album supposedly soon!

♫ M83 – Midnight City (Alcala Remix) / One of the best songs of the year gets a worthy remix treatment that simmers and steams before boiling over in a explosion of sonic fireworks that give me shivers every time. Clocking in at 6:25, it is asking a lot of us but trust me, every second is worth it. High-five to Alcala!

♫ Penguin Prison – Fair Warning (Dirty Vegas Remix) / Ummm… so Penguin Prison, can we get an album already? You have been around for, like, ever and people keep showing you up with their epic remixes of your stuff. This song does sound like it is good, though.

♫ Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know (Bibio Remix) / I Haven’t got the new Gotye album yet but I should check myself ASAP. Bibio knows what’s up and flipped this gem onto a beach-blanket for some evening sun and cocktails. Smoooth.

♫ Generationals – Trust (Bent Black version) / Generationals dropped a free treat for us in with some remixes, demos, etc, called Medium Rarities. You think it disappoints? Ha. They also posted stems for my favorite jam “Ten-Twenty-Ten” so remixers get busy!

♫ Foster The People – Helena Beat (Feckless Wonders Remix) / Well, I asked for more “Helena Beat” remixes and, well, I got what I wanted. A bit eerie and deserted but beggars can’t choosers. For the Foster The People-themed room at your next Halloween dance party.

♫ Britney Spears – I Wanna Go (Captain Cuts Radio Edit) / One of the best off Britney’s latest gets done by awesomeness-veteran Captain Cuts. Stop rolling your eyes and just enjoy it already.

♫ Alex Winston – Velvet Elvis (RAC Remix) / Alex Winston! RAC! Velvet! And Elvis! Yeah!

♫ Coconut Records – Nighttiming (RAC Mix) / Was doing some understandable RAC archive rummaging the other day and found this jam I’d missed. Bass gets low!

♫ Cults – Go Outside (Menahan Street Band Remix) / Not much changed here but the slight dusting of country folk band powder fits nicely with Cults’ throwback pop vibe.

♫ Marvin Gaye – Grapevine (VOODOO FARM REMIX) / A stone cold classic get’s run through Voodoo Farm’s remix machine and comes out hot and ready for the dance floor! Come on Gramps, you know the words!

♫ The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart – Heart in Your Heartbreak (Twin Shadow remix) / Two indie darlings together on this one. Works for me.

MASHUPS

♫ Jay-Z, Jermaine Dupri/Michael Jackson – Liberian Money (Its Overture Blend) / Its Overture knows his way around a mash-up. Thank you, sir.

♫ Copycat – Save the nightfall tonight (A Copycat Mash) / Copycat gives a bit of backhanded love to Swedish House Mafia by “saving” one of their tracks with a bit of Aeroplane’s remix of Processory’s “Nightfall” and his own mash-up magic.

♫ The Rapture – How Deep Is Your Love / The Rapture return after waaaay too many years absent with a jam. It’s no “Whoo Alright” but it does bode well for more sweetness from these guys.

♫ Toro y Moi – Saturday Love / Toro y Moi gave us a Summer present! Thanks Chad!

♫ Teddybears – Weed In A Rizzla (feat. Trimbal) / I really don’t know what to expect from Teddybears any more. This is kinda a jam but it sure is different.

♫ Outasight – Figure 8 / The original track behind one of the years best remixes doesn’t pack quite the same punch but it does have a fun video. Grab his whole EP for free here.

♫ Tim & Jean – I Can Show You (Jump Jump Dance Dance Remix) / Both Tim & Jean AND Jump Jump Dance Dance coming through big time here! More of both, please. This is nice! Sing along with me!

♫ Givers – Up Up Up (CSS Remix) / CSS have always had a flair for remixing and it’s nice to see them back in the game!

♫ Channel Cairo – Twenty (RAC Maury Mix) / RAC Maury reminding us that there is more than one King Midas working in RAC Castle. Anyone heard the original?

♫ Punks Jump Up – Chimes (Younger Than Me Remix) / Punks Jump Up finally lay down some of their original stuff and then get it nicely flipped by Younger Than Me. Plus cowbell! Friday night, are you here yet?

♫ ANR – Stay Kids (Memory Tapes Remix) / It’s a lot like listening to the original. Until you realize you are in a dream. And you can fly. But only like 4 feet off the ground. More like floating really.

♫ Glasvegas – Geraldine (The Soundmen Remix) / The Soundmen tackle an odd one here but not-surprisingly come out unscathed and benefitting us all for the effort.

♫ Beethoven – Moonlight Sonata (Sound Remedy Remix) / Sheit gets twisted. Beware. But beware in a good way, if you know what I mean. There is dub-step afoot…

♫ Funeral Party – NYC Moves To The Sound Of LA (Dave Sitek Rmx) / I was searching for more Sitek remixes and found this old gem. Always nice to see a remix of a track I covered way back.

♫ Austra – Spellwork (MNDR Nighttime Remix) / I saw MNDR play with Mark Ronson a few weeks back. I still can’t figure out if she is hot. But I do know this remix is pretty cool.

♫ Turboweekend – With every heartbeat (Robyn cover) / Awww, yeah! A whole new feeling on a classic.

♫ Kate McGill – Flaws (Bastille cover) / Tender and sweet “Flaws” cover for a different spin on the epic original.

♫ Salem – Till The World Ends (Britney Spears cover) / Jesus, guys. Way to creep the hell out of this one.

♫ Frank Ocean – Dreamkilla / New (or maybe old) Frank Ocean produced by the Midi Mafia who also did one of the best songs of the year so far, “Swim Good.” Butter.

♫ Boots Electric – Boots Electric Theme / The first single from Eagles Of Death Metal’s frontman Jesse “Boots Electric” Hughes. Hmm… I wanna love it but it’s just no EODM track.

♫ Wale – Lacefrontin’ / Remember when this guy was supposed to be the big thing? Just not feeling it. So much going on here but kinda nothing going on.

♫ Star Slinger – Dutchie Courage / Star Slinger bringing the summer heat! Kinda a remix since he samples “Pass The Dutchie” so heavily but whatever.

♫ Theophilus London – Why Even Try (RAC Remix) / You don’t need more than 3 notes to know RAC has done this jam sweet justice. While most remixers go for big dance bangers or weirdo style-flips, RAC always does his own thing, simply using known elements to create a whole new beautiful structure.

♫ Jeremy Glen – New Life (Amtrac Remix) / Amtrac coming through! Such a bigger and better song than the original. Jeremy Glen should get Amtrac to produce all his stuff.

♫ Kings of Leon – Sex On Fire (Al Fingers’ Juicy Remix) / We shouldn’t be able to tolerate another “Sex on Fire” remix but I’m totally on board with what Al Fingers has done here.

♫ Urban Cone – Urban Photograph – Lucas Nord Remix / Like a misty sunrise you are gonna want to be patient for this one. And then go nuts. You will know when.

♫ Chromeo – When The Night Falls (Hercules And Love Affair Remix) / Did I mention Chromeo absolutely killed it at Opener Festival? Cause, umm…yeah. Like, woah. I leave you to think about how you should have been there as this loaf of funkernickel rises in your ear oven.

♫ Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks (Gigamesh remix) / Don’t know how this jamerino slipped under my radar! Gigamesh slays per usual, except this time his weapon is a lemonade powered hand-clap machine. Add it to the list!

♫ Goldroom – Morgan’s Bay (Charles I Remix) / Just a different spin on this underrated summer jam. Like riding an 8-Bit yacht on 64-bit seas. Or something.

♫ Lil Wayne – Stuntin’ Like My Daddy (FAMUEL Remix) / Always gonna love a good “Stuntin” remix. Drive fast!

♫ The Weeknd – The Party (Chi Duly Remix) ft. Silver Medallion / Apparently Chi Duly is doing a whole Weeknd remix project and so far I’m OK with that. Trading a bit of grit for gold works on my summer evenings.

♫ Florence & The Machine – Postcards From Italy [DJ Metric & Endress Remix] / A great remix of a great cover. Don’t think about it, just feel that low end pulse.

♫ The-Dream – 1+1 (Beyoncé Demo) / Not really a cover since the Beyonce track was written The-Dream and was originally his demo called “Nothing But Love.” Which version you feeling more?

♫ Mr Little Jeans – The Suburbs (Arcade Fire Cover) / Familiar. Haunting. Ballsy. I like it.

♫ Derek Allen – Spirits In The Material World (cover) / Potentially more Dubstep Roundup material but I like this take on the Police classic. No surprise though, Derek is a long-time Diplo co-producer at Mad Decent.

♫ Hercules & Love Affair – Painted Eyes (Radio Edit) / I’ve heard a few of the new Hercules tracks and while they are no “Blind” this one definitely has some nice elastic thump. Blue Songs is out now.

♫ Fool’s Gold – Street Clothes / Fool’s Gold come back just in time for summer. But this one isn’t quite as summery and fun as 2009′s season defining “Surprise Hotel.”

♫ Toro y Moi – New Beat (Fare Soldi “CantaTu” rmx) / Toro y Moi has picked up some of the best remix treatments of the year and this “New Beat” banger is up there. I love that extra handclap action and kicked up beat.

♫ James Blake – Wilhelm Scream (Master Rogers remix) / Master Rogers takes this 2011 classic on a sunset shuffle ride to Funksville and I’m in line for a ticket. The masterful Master Rogers (beatmaker behind Mouth’s Cradle) released an EP of 8 remixes from artists like Discovery, Lily Allen, Yeasayer, and more. Check it out here for free.

♫ Austra – Lose It (Diamond Rings Remix) / Can I officially request that these two musical entities work together more? It’s like bananas and strawberries, meant to be blended together and served in a festive glass.

♫ Architecture In Helsinki – Contact High (Javelin Remix) / No easy feat topping Clock Opera’s EPIC remix so Javelin bring their awkward bounce to the table and serve up something completely different.

♫ Kreayshawn – Gucci Gucci (K.Flay Remix) / So Kreayshawn is a thing. Figure out your own feelings on the oddball rapper with her big hit “Gucci Gucci” and it’s K.Flay remix here. ♫ Parts and Labor – Runaway (Kanye West Cover) / The tension of Kanye’s modern classic get’s stretched to the breaking point with the help of distorted guitars and ambient droning. Damn. Messed up and awesome.
