[PREMIERE] Third Eye Blind – “Mine” (Beyonce cover)

One of the most beautiful things about music, in all its shapes and forms, is its ability to dig deep into your soul and strum something real and raw. To elicit the kind of emotional response usually reserved for the first day of spring of a new crush. I’ll never forget my own first fall into love “love” and having the whole whirlwind of naive longing soundtracked by Third Eye Blind’s debut album. The wounds of that youthful relationship have long since faded and been replaced by the wisdom and additional wounds of growing older. But hearing Stephen Jenkins’ voice always sets my mind in a special state.

Being older and wiser is luckily no reason to not be deeply affected by music. As Jenkins states below, he had his own chemical reaction to hearing Beyonce’s “Mine” and I’m just honored to Read more

The 25 Best MUSIC VIDEOS of 2011

Every once in a while I meet someone who casually mentions that music videos are dead and I’m always shocked. Music videos have never been more alive and vibrant than they are now in the age of video democracy online. This post is a celebration of the creative spirit that fights every day to set great songs to even better visuals. You guys are my heroes.

Watch the videos in a countdown stye playlist below or continue on to catch them embedded 1-by-1 with my woefully minimal commentary.

♫ Gym Class Heroes (featuring Neon Hitch) – Ass Back Home (SmarterChild & Oxymorrons Remix) / Pretty impressive, especially when you consider that this tune is a collaberatoin of all pilot artists.  Don’t blink, SmarterChild is starting to look like a heavyweight.

Remix Roundup Vol. 51 – 9.13.2011 [Madonna, Dada Life, Matt & Kim, The Drums, and more…]

Welcome back TBE vets and greetings, bonjour, buenas noches, shalom, what’s happening TBE infants.  First, we’re grateful for everyone of you.  Second, we have a slight change in the Remix Roundup methodology I wanted to let you know about.

Previously, we had been working from a Friday bi-weekly format that many of you have come very a accustomed to.  But, as awesome as those Friday roundups were, keeping to that schedule sometimes proved to be quite difficult.  Not to mention resulting in many Roundups being far too large.   I decided to clean things up.

The New Philosophy is simple… I will post a new R-R everytime I have 15 new TBE worthy remixes.  There is no set schedule.  Does this mean I will post less often???  No, actually its quite the contrary.  If you want to stay up to date on all remix roundups, then follow me on twitter @JoelAlbers

Anyway, enough with the serious talk…  Remix Roundup Vol. 51 is about to blow your head off.  PUSSSHH PLAY.

For more jams or by any of these artists use the ‘tags’ links at the bottom of the post!  Follow me on Twitter @JoelAlbers for updates.

Madonna – Like A Prayer (Viceroy + Alkamyme Remix) / I’ve been looking for a decade for a quality remix of this song.  The search is over.

♫ Dada Life – Fight Club Is Closed (Religion Remix) / This one puts a huge mischievous grin on my face.  This is what I call a 4-On-The-Floor BANGER.  This may just coast its way into that all important Top 50 remixes of 2011 list.

The Best Cover Songs of 2010

This year saw quite a few bands taking cracks at covers of songs both new and old. From bare bones beautiful interpretations of The Smashing Pumpkins, Miike Snow, and LCD Soundsystem to full on genre flipping of Jay-Z and Justice, to a different blend of herbs and spices on Band of Horses and Beyoncé, it’s clear that there is no magic formula to a great cover. These are the one’s I loved the most this past year. You?

10. ♫ ceo – Halo (Beyoncé Cover)

9. ♫ Jackson Harris – Empire State Of Mind (Jay-Z cover)

Remix Roundup Vol. 19 / 4.2.10 / [RAC, Penguin Prison, Neon Trees, Hot Chip …]

You ask, you receive. Remixes are back with more reading for your pleasure! Crank that volume knob and dive in!

♫ Penguin Prison – Worse It Gets (RAC Mix) / Damn. Jams don’t get much fresher than this. I haven’t heard the original yet but I couldn’t wait another moment to share this slice of audio perfection. Penguin Prison and RAC are both firing on all cylinders on this buttery smooth funk fest. This jam could cure depression if administered in daily doses. For reals.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes – Home (RAC Mix) / RAC doing his magic on this recent modern classic of a love song. This kind of remix is a perfect example of why I love RAC so much. the dude can pack on the beats and make Read more

} TBE Digest 5 – 2.10.10 [Major Lazer, Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, The Knife, & more!]

With this roundup I wanted to kick things off with a couple of great/interesting covers before I get into the dregs of what’s been popping up around the interwebs lately. Remember, these are just my humble opinions and an effort to keep you all abreast of the musical happenings that I don’t cover in their own hyperbole-filled post. If I make a poopy on one of your favorite bands just try not to flip out. We all float in different boats, or whatever.

Major Lazer – Halo / Major Lazer and Elephant Man pay their own special kind of tribute to the Grammy winner with this cover. Not sure if they changed the lyrics or not, kinda hard to understand that dude.
