Shameboy – “Trippin” ft. Max Marshall (Christopher Norman Remix)

Longtime TBE fave Christopher Norman returns again with a remix that gently lifts you off your seat and nudges you into the night sky. The lights of your world below slowly fade to flickering specks and our mind opens up to a whole new cosmos of slow motion space.  Read more

[PREMIERE-MP3] Christopher Norman – “Cult Logic” (Miike Snow Cover)

[soundcloud id=’137821427′]

When I was compiling the list of top songs from the last five years of this music site I knew Miike Snow had to be on it. But anyone alive in 2009 hear their fair share of “Animal” covers & remixes already. Plus, it was “Cult Logic” that always had my top vote on that album. But who would cover it? Who would step up and do this jam justice!? Well, the one and only Christopher Norman, thats who. Christopher continually flies under too many radars as I post jam after jam of his here on TBE. Let hope this awesome cover grabs some more ears leading up to his debut album. It certainly made my day.

Remix Roundup Vol. 70 – Approx Feb 2013

100-bolt-paddedYup, another “better late than never” roundup coming at you straight from arctic February. But turn that frown upside down because it is Friday and you have the tunes to do the night justice. With warmer weather comes looser limbs. Move them.

[MP3] Christopher Norman & The Reverb Junkie – “You Don’t Know”

i don’t blend in so i’m not trying

♫ Christopher Norman & The Reverb Junkie – You Don’t Know

Christopher Norman is pretty beloved around TBE HQ so I wasn’t sure what to think about this unknown Reverb Junkie addition. Then I listened. Then I listened some more. Then I cranked that shit up in the Trader Joe’s parking lot and the attendent gave me a nod. Not only did I get a great spot but I was in a fantastic mood while picking out which avocado 3-pack was ripest. Needless to say, I am a believer. That creeping synth line and Beth Ditto-ish vocals are right up my alley.

[MP3] Christopher Norman – “Connect Me”

heart racing without a sound, every wall around you coming down

♫ Christopher Norman – Connect Me

  • Who: Mr. Norman
  • What: Carbonated winter-pop, kinda like Motopony, Gotye, The xx
  • Where: Ann Arbor, MI + Facebook / Soundcloud  / Amazon
  • When: EP 3 is out Feb 23rd.
  • Why: Mr Norman landed himself on the Best Songs of 2011 list and is already back for more with this new jam. His 4-part EP series enters its second half in a few weeks and I couldn’t imagine a better segue. “Connect Me” get more upbeat while still showcasing all the somber sounds I love from “Maps.” The guy really has a talent for blending the organic and electric in beautiful and unique ways. More please!

Remix Party Playlist Vol. 59 – 1.27.2012 [Capital Cities, Dada Life, Mord Fustang, Chiddy Bang, and more…]

Its been awhile since I released a Remix Roundup. Yeah, I know blah blah…  What if i told you that I have one in the batters box and another on deck… just waiting there patiently, ready to slap you in the face with this waffle here (Baseball reference in 2012- check).  BTW, this waffle is made of plastic and it might hurt.

Tis Friday folks.

Nurd On.

For more jams or by any of these artists use the ‘tags’ links at the bottom of the post!  Follow @JoelAlbers on Twitter for updates on remixes, dubstep and all things Nurdy.

♫ Capital Cities – Safe and Sound (d’Anconia Remix) / First off, this original tune was one of my 2011 favorites and I really enjoyed the Discotech remix just recently released…  BUT, this version is so tough that I almost want to slap someone.  If this jam doesn’t top Hype, then I’ll be personally pissed.  Check d’Anconia on Facebook.

Notorious B.I.G. – Going Back to Cali (Viceroy _Jet Life_ Remix) / Its not summer, but Vicerory will fill your speakers with those sunny good vibes.  Do yourself a favor..  go grab some CapriSun and enjoy this one.

The Best SONGS of 2011 – Pt. 2 (July-Dec)

Songs are pretty amazing things. It’s magical that such a small thing can be so powerful. In the blink of an eye a song can make you smile, dance, cry, think, laugh, etc. These are the ones that did all those things for me the second half of 2011.  Read more

[MP3] Christopher Norman – “Maps”

i don’t know how or why or when, your voice keeps playing back in my head

♫ Christopher Norman – Maps

Ok, so side story here. 5 years ago, when I lived in NYC, I worked part time at the amazing Christopher Norman Chocolates in the financial district (they still have my product photos up on the website!) The owners were two of the coolest guys I could ever work for and I spent my days listening to Bloc Party, The Shins, Copeland, and The New Amsterdams on repeat as I learned to pull a proper espresso from the Italian finance guy who came in every day and coached me just so he could get a himself decent shot.

So yes, all that was awesome and a long time ago but here we have something that is also awesome but is happening right now! And it’s also called Christopher Norman! So the lesson is that if you name your child Christopher Norman it will be awesome! Fact. So this CN is a young singer/songsmith who blends the juicy haze of Junior Boys with the tender piano stylings of James Blake. “Maps” is a beautiful piece of music that should have a home in everyone’s ears as well as some excessively heart wrenching scene in a movie. Mister Norman has 2 EPs out now and is working on a 3rd. Clearly a craftsman. I love it.
