The next time you fire up your jet-craft for an inter-dimensional jaunt through some distant geo-scapes make sure you’ve got this new DWNTWN jam loaded up on your audio pod. Then hit the cruise control lever and crank it loud. Read more
Finally new music from hometown favorites DWNTWN! They dominated their January residency at The Satellite and no better victory lap then “Til Tomorrow”. Robert’s voice is a great complement to Jamie’s as they sing back and forth over a dreamy synth groove and snappy percussion. Its a great evolution for a band that has grown from the 2 original members that played The Burning Ear SXSW showcase 2 years ago to the 4 piece powerhouse of today.
I’m proud to present the next residency show of one of my favorite LA bands, DWNTWN. The Satellite is the very first venue I ever saw them live over 2 years ago and now they are hosting their own residency there. Gotta love when life comes full circle! Also gotta love when TBE faves Carousel and Scavenger Hunt are on the bill as well. I’ll be DJing between sets so come out for a night of awesome music and good times!
Cover songs are still my favorite way for emerging bands to put their own sound on a hit song and get easy attention. However 2012 was for some reason a slow year for cover songs. Luckily a handful of bands did them well and left us with flipped and twisted takes on old classics and net hits alike. Here are my 10 favorites (#1 at the bottom). What did I miss? Read more
2012 was a fantastic year for party songs. It seems that music is having more fun than ever and I couldn’t be happier to share it with you all. We’ve all had some epic parties set to some epic party playlists and tonight is the night to top them all. (Or not, really. Nothing worse than NYE pressure.) So take a trip down the Read more
I was apprehensive about how these newcomers would pull off their delicate grooves but they absolutely impressed. Solid musicianship cracked up to “rock.” Songs I heard for first time sounded like instant favorites. Plus a Smashing Pumpkins cover never hurts. Catch them on tour with Wolf Gang this fall!
I’ve seen DWNTWN a bunch this past year and this crowd was definitely the biggest dance party I’ve seen rocking out. (Well, aside from Read more
When I first started the blog feature on Lights & Music last month, this mixtape was the first idea that I put into action.  Wikipedia, in-short describes mixtapes as usually reflecting the musical tastes of its compiler, a conceptual mix of songs linked by a theme or mood tailored to the tape’s intended recipient.  Yeah sure, we’ve all made mixtapes before.  But, what happens when you get a bunch of artists and bloggers to make a mixtape with the intended recipient being you?  Thats what I wanted to find out.  The concept is simple, yet I hadn’t really seen it anywhere else.
Everyone was given two selections. Â They could either choose two tracks defining their summer so far in 2012 or one new and one all-time summer favorite. Â Sounds simple enough in theory, but narrowing down your favorite jams to fit that criteria was tough. Â That said, this was a fun project and I intend on making this a annual event.
Without further ado, please enjoy and share with others. Read more

What’s better that one of your favorite girl-fronted indie electro pop bands playing live right in front of you? Well, TWO of them! Last night Icona Pop brought that Swedish mega-pop magic to LA and got the whole room moving to epic jams “Manners,” Some new tracks, and of course the song of the summer “I Love It.” They didn’t play my other favorite “Nights Like This” so I’ll be cranking it up and continuing the dance party right now.
DWNTWN followed and debuted a keyboard player who added some nice oomph to their live sound. The room kept dancing as they mixed older jams with newer stuff off their just released EP. I talked to at least 2 people who had never heard of either band before the night and is now a big fan of both. Sweetness.
As some of you know I’ve been working on several other projects.  Mainly, Lights & Music Entertainment; a Music Blog / Concert & Event Production Series.   Does this mean I’m done with TBE?  Nope, but most of my time will be spent building content for my own blog.  Don’t worry, my Remix & Dubstep Roundups are alive and well over there.  In fact, they are about to be better than ever.
A continuation of my feature at The Burning Ear, Remix Roundups are a collection of the freshest remixes on the planet.  You can search high and low, in this world or another, but you won’t find a remix series this dope in this galaxy or the next –  For we are from only space.
For more jams or by any of these artists use the ‘tags’ links at the bottom of the post!  Follow @Lights3Music on Twitter for updates on remixes, dubstep and all things Nurdy.
Passion Pit – Take A Walk (Peking Duk Remix) / When it drops,… oohhh soo good.  Its head bobbing, its intoxicating and if you let it- completely mind numbing.  Pimp it.
David Guetta – Titanium (Mistereric Mix) / Imagine, a world of lightly crashing waves, sunny weather and gorgeous women rolling skating to the rhythm.  Thats what this song means to me.  Its got mad vibes.  Jump in.
Five weeks ago I had the pleasure of speaking with a Burning Ear reader who was writing an article on the way music blogs are changing the industry. May Wildman was writing the article for The University of Maryland’s daily newspaper. She asked me questions. We talked. Or rather, I talked. She listened patiently. Perhaps napped. Who can tell. Anyway, When I followed up a few days ago to see how it was received she said the paper never published it. Something about “end of the year and a lot of other material to publish.†Just cause that paper dropped the ball doesn’t mean Wildman’s work should go unread. After all, It’s pretty damn interesting. Plus a Read more
Saturday night was the Kitsuné party at The Echoplex which featured a few bands and DJs but the highlight of the evening was obviously DWNTWN. I’ve seen them rock stages a handful of times (Texas included!) but Saturday was the first with their new live drummer. And it was awesome. Swagger and sex appeal were overflowing from Read more

So grab that Calvin Harris cover while you are here but the real reason I’ve invited you today is because one of my favorite live DWNTWN jams “See My Eyes” finally has a proper release! The quite dark video is below where you can see sexy people doing silly things (like write letters with paper!). Enjoy all this goodness while you contemplate the fact that you weren’t in Nashville for the DWNTWN & Cherub show a few weeks back. That epic combo was born on the Burning Ear stages at SXSW!
Day 2 was a blast. There was music, food, drink, and a lot of dancefloor shenanigans. I’ll refer you to the full lineup for a list of the ways our socks were rocked. Below are the interviews I was able to catch. I think DWNTWN’s gave me a new favorite location to do these…
