Remix Roundup Vol. 67 – 6.26.2012 [Matt & Kim, Feist, St. Lucia, J.Cole, and more…]

And just like that.  I’m back with more remix madness for your Burning Ears. Remix Roundups are a collection of the freshest remixes on the planet.  You can search high and low in this world or another, but you won’t find a remix series this dope in this galaxy or the next –  For we are from only space.

Passion Pit – Take A Walk (The M Machine Remix)  / First we had the glorious Pecking Duk remix and now this and its not even Christmas.  The M Machine, hailing from the Bay Area have created a straight up slappin mix here.

La Roux – I’m Not Your Toy (Data Remix)  / Not a new tune by any means, but what a chune it is… How this song somehow slipped through the Lights & Music cracks blows my mind.  Without further ado, enjoy.

♫ M.I.A. – Internet Connection – (Flux Pavilion Remix) / Being music fanatics there are few things more annoying than a bad internet connection holding you back.  Honestly, we get frustrated just thinking about it.  That being said, there has probably been a lot of creative goodness to come from such a irritating problem.  This song being one.

♫ Brand New – Daisy (Adventure Club Dubstep Remix) / Ohh Canadia, thank you so much for giving us the production Dj duo from Montreal.  Thank you too, Baby Jesus.  We will be hearing much, much more from these dudes.

Lastly, don’t forget to break some dance floor hearts this weekend.

And oh yeah,….  Get Nurdy’

♫ The Dance Party- Sasha Don’t Sleep (Dillon Francis Remix) / Brandon posted another rad mix of this song too, not to mention the original track back in 09.  We’ve really taken a liking to this Sasha girl, and we’re pretty sure  that this Dillon Francis remix will keep her dancing.

♫ Lady Gaga- Monster (Computer Blue Remix) / Ummm yes.  Computer Blue, the duo from OK city have graced all of our eardrums with a BANGER.  This one is special.

Dubstep Roundup Teaser / Joel and Scott present: La Roux

Grime. Filth. Melt. Chunk. Wobble. Smack. Gnar. Nasty. BASS.

We, Joel & Scott, are proud to announce we will be bringing the genre of DUBSTEP to The Burning Ear through our very special “Dubstep Roundup” series.  Our cold lockers are packed to the gills with devastatingly heavy sounds and we can’t wait to share.  Look for us to release this new series exclusively on Fridays twice a month beginning this Friday.

So here, for now, chew on this, for it is only the beginning friends, it is only the beginning.

La Roux- In For The Kill (Skream’s Let’s Get Ravey Mix) This song isn’t new by any means.  BUT, it is delightfully evil and full of emotion (A perfect introduction to our most exciting series yet “Dubstep Roundups”).  Keep quiet, and listen to this cinematic tune.  It may induce goose-bumps.

TBE Digest 7 – 3.27.10 [MGMT, Foals, Born Ruffians, LCD Soundsystem, The Very Best, …]

If this is your first time to the Burning Ear then welcome to The TBE Digest, a place where I take a break from my usual gushing enthusiasm and cover some recent tracks that I am not so in love with but are still interesting/relevant/whatever. I’ve also started throwing covers in as well because, well, because I love covers. Dive in!

MGMT – Flash Delirium / The first single from MGMT’s follow-up, Congratulations, which is streaming for free at their website. I haven’t heard it yet because frankly, “Flash Delirium” doesn’t really make me want to. It’s not that it’s even “not as good as “Kids”/”Time To Pretend”/”Electric Feel,” it’s just not very listenable.

Best Albums of 2009 /// Honorable Mention & EPs

I’m too tired and you’re too anxious. Let’s get this show on the road. I’ll drop some kind of ’09 wrap up speech in “The Best Albums of ’09 / The Top 15” which should be out soooon. In the meantime, nibble on these biscuits. And leave your comments! You guys have piped up louder than ever lately and I love hearing what Team TBE thinks. Cause if two brains are better than one, well than imagi…. ok, we get it, let’s do this!

Oh, and since ranking albums is for wieners (songs are OK) I just alphabetized these lists. I don’t believe in favorites so it would be dishonest of me to attempt some sort of ranking system here. These joints are just the business, each in their own way.

La Roux’s debut is like some combination of ferocious feline and beautiful flower. Like a Tigerliliy, or something.

in the crush of the dark i’ll be your light in the mist

La Roux – Tigerlily

Things I know about La Roux:

– La Roux is actually two people, not just young singer Elly Jackson. This is misleading because “la roux” means “red one” in French and well, Elly fits that description. Although maybe so does producer Ben Langmaid but nobody has every seen him. Ever.

– They came to my attention with the video for “Quicksand“. Lot’s of beautiful sunsets and crazy hair. Oh, and a good song.

– After “Quicksand” and second single “In For The Kill” got La Roux hyped out the wazoo, we were treated to two more tracks: “I’m Not Your Toy” and “Bulletproof.” The former was my favorite of the 4.

– As we wait for the album, the videos continue. “In For The Kill” features an awesome car and a lot of fruitless suspense. “Bulletproof” is borderline unwatchable as the video has no point and Elly looks terrible (and really British, if you know what I mean).

– Their self titled debut finally comes out. The songs we know hold up in context and there are even more good ones! What!? What is this Tigerlily song? It’s fantastic. Over super funky bleep and bloops Elly sounds feistier than ever and her energy covers the track.

– The only bad part about “Tigerlily” is the Haunted Mansion voice that comes in towards the end. Why? If that’s Ben then no wonder he stays hidden. Weirdo.

– “Bulletproof” is at number 1 on the UK charts and Elly hits the headlines with some racy comments about slutty women and her status as a “boy-looking girl.”

– Silly comments or not, I really like this album and only wish Little Boots had pulled out an equally impressive debut. I was really rooting for her…

The 20.9 Best Songs of 2009… So Far / Jan.-June

Art by Odili Donald Odita

Art by Odili Donald Odita

How freaking crazy is it that 2009 is already halfway over? What a crazy year so far, in so many ways, the least of which is all of the fantastic, surprising, and sometimes disappointing music that has come our way. TBE will be 5 months old in a week and we have been chronicling most of the year’s jams. Here are my top 20.9. I guarantee you wont agree with all of them but doesn’t that just make our friendship that much more deep and meaningful? Just so we are clear how I arrived at this particular order, I’ve selected my favorites from my top listens each month and then ordered them purely by total play count. I know that’s confusing but whatever, the list is after the jump.

Remix Roundup /// Vol. 4

Here at TBE I like to focus on new artists we are about to love and new tracks by artists we already love. BUT! Sometimes a remix comes along that just hast to be shared (danced to), and even more often a dozen remixes come along, hence the Remix Roundup. This week has some fantastic remixers (Designer Drugs, Don Diablo, Bloodshy & Avant, etc) remixing some TBE faves (La Roux, Basement Jaxx, Frankmusik, etc.). Crank the volume, clear the dance floor and download away!

La Roux is looking more and more Bulletproof

been there done that messed around

i’m having fun don’t put me down

La Roux – Bulletproof

The red haired vixen above is one half of English synth-duo La Roux, who you may remember them from the Heads Up ’09 mix. Since then they dropped the fantastic “In For The Kill” and now they have got two more out in the etherwebs. I am really digging “Bulletproof,” not only for its bouncy synth magic, but it feels like Elly is having a lot more fun than on previous tracks. She’s flame-haired, self empowered and ready to take world by storm. Thats hot. So is this.
