A-Trak – “Push” feat. Andrew Wyatt

Music for… those of watching 1/3 of Miike Snow killing it with new project Galantis and wondering if we would ever hear the sweet sounds of singer Andrew Wyatt again. Leave it up to premiere talent curator and supreme collaborator A-Trak to give us a little party medicine with this gritty butt bumper. “Push” may not be a new Miike Snow jam but damn if it isn’t a fine piece of collaboration.

Location: A-Trak is everywhere, man.

Future: “Push” is supposedly “a new chapter of solo material from DJ hero A-Trak” so thats exciting.

Rubblebucket – “Carousel Ride”

Sounds Like… Rubblebucket have been having a hell of a good time. Playing Glastonbury, being Arcade Fire’s dancing bobble-heads, and now releasing this horntastic piece of fun. This jam has it all! Guitar crunch that would make The Faint faint, horns worthy of a No Doubt reunion, and enough untamed bleeps and bloops for a Miike Snow remix. Hold on tight.

Location: Back in the US after a European/UK tour.

Future: Tour tour tour!  Read more

[PREMIERE-MP3] Christopher Norman – “Cult Logic” (Miike Snow Cover)

[soundcloud id=’137821427′]

When I was compiling the list of top songs from the last five years of this music site I knew Miike Snow had to be on it. But anyone alive in 2009 hear their fair share of “Animal” covers & remixes already. Plus, it was “Cult Logic” that always had my top vote on that album. But who would cover it? Who would step up and do this jam justice!? Well, the one and only Christopher Norman, thats who. Christopher continually flies under too many radars as I post jam after jam of his here on TBE. Let hope this awesome cover grabs some more ears leading up to his debut album. It certainly made my day.

The Happy Birthday TBE Album – With exclusive covers and remixes from Noah Hyde, Pr0files, Lincoln Jesser, Parade of Lights and more…

This is just a teaser to get you all as excited as I am. To celebrate the 5th birthday of The Burning Ear I’m putting together an album of exclusive remixes of covers of the best TBE jams of the past 5 years. Contributing artists like Pr0files, Noah Hyde, Lincoln Jesser, Y Luv, Wiley Webb, Memoryy, Germany Germany, and more will be remixing or covering songs by Miike Snow, Twin Shadow, Scavenger Hunt, Yeasayer, Phosphorescent, Rhye, Frank Ocean, and more.

The list goes one and makes my heart skip a beat every time I read it. And dont even get me started on heart skips when I LISTEN to these jams. Holy cow. You guys are in for a treat.

AND THEN, there is the epic album artwork above created by the amazing Meghan Ellie Smith. I’m basically a mess of excitement over here.

Stay tuned. The project rolls out next week….

[MP3] W. Pontonen – “Come Smile”

in the morning when the night has died i forget just where i’ve been

♫ W. Pontonen – Come Smile

  • Who: Miike Snow‘s Pontus Winnberg
  • What: Drum beat grooves, like Miike Snow, Karlsson & Winnberg, Lykke Li
  • Where: Stockholm, Sweden + Facebook
  • When: W. Pontonon has only released this under that name.
  • Why: Crafting some sort of alternate reality mashup, Winnberg has rubbed Lykke Li’s “Come Near” together with Smile‘s “Clean Gloves, Dirty Hands” and cooked up this jam. Its unclear whether Pontonon is a real project or a one off for this track. What is sure is Sweden’s INGRID collective contains Winnberg, Lykke, and members of The Teddybears and Peter Bjorn and John and they are gearing up for action.

[MP3] Galantis – “Tank”

♫ Galantis – Tank

  • Who: According to A-Trak’s radio show it’s Bloodshy, Carli & Style of Eye.
  • What: Beats n beats, like Joe and Will Ask?, NoteOn
  • Where: Sweden + Facebook?
  • When: “Tank” is out on the Robotberget label’s EP1.
  • Why: Karlsson & Winnberg, Bloodshy & Avant, The Swedes of Miike Snow, however you want to call them they just started a label called Robotberget and it’s 1st showcase EP features this aptly named village-destroyer by Galantis. This one makes me want to build a couch fort and valiantly defend it against the oncoming hordes. Pull your sheet/cape close. It’s about to get epic…

Remix Party Playlist Vol. 63 – 4.14.2012 [Lily Allen, Morning Parade, Phil Collins, Madeon and more…]

Because sometimes Saturday is a good day for a fresh batch of remixes.

I’m back to butter up your eardrums with some radicool (yes, I know radicool isn’t a real word, but in my vocabulary- it is) jams.  As you know, our cold lockers are packed to the gills with sonic tunes and electronic robots.  We are quickly approaching the night, and frankly the time to start getting saucy, nurdy, weird, (insert adjective here) etc.   So look, right now I’m envisioning what is to be the first global cyber dance party ever… and guess what?  You’re all invited.  I’ve got the jams, you’ve got the moves, so lets do this.

Shout out to all the followers from South Africa and around the world.  We love hearing from you guys.

[QUICKIE] Miike Snow – HAPPY TO YOU (w/ “The Wave”)

you can hear them banging on the tin but my love wont be sane

Ya’ll know I LOVE Miike Snow. The Wave is Gold. Paddling Out too. But rest of album I have to agree more with AV Club & Pitchfork. Lacking.

[Quickies are mini-reviews that can fit into a 140 character tweet. They are of albums that people already know of but perhaps are curious about our take on it. What did you think of the disc?]

Did I mention that this song gets me waaay more excited for Happy To You (on March 26th).

The 15 Best Cover Songs of 2011

Welcome to the end of the year. A time for reflection, for resolutions, for binge drinking, and for me telling you what was good in the TBE hood! Kicking things off are my 15 favorite covers spanning all genres and damn near all instruments. Guys! Girls! Guys singing girls’ songs! Girls singing guys’ songs! It’s mayhem! [MP3] Miike Snow – “Devil’s Work”

my hands, i feel like i’ve been here before, she has already spoken

♫ Miike Snow – Devil’s Work

New Miike Snow!!!! Anyone reading TBE since the ’09 days know I get super ear-boners for these guys so I was naturally stoked that a new track dropped recently. Except that I’m just not sold on this. Sounds like any band could have done “Devil’s Work.” Where is the knob-jockey genius of the Miike Snow I know!? I do like the horns, though. And am still generally pumped for more as they have said the album is finished and coming out early 2012. Here is a little “film accompaniment” for “Devil’s Work.” And here is a sweater that we can all cry about missing out on.

[MP3] Karlsson & Winnberg – “The Dance (feat. Spank Rock)”

daddy look what i done, i’m moving to the drum

♫ Karlsson & Winnberg – The Dance (feat. Spank Rock)

Karlsson & Winnberg, a.k.a Bloodshy & Avant, a.k.a The guys in Miike Snow who twist all the knobs, a.k.a. the guys that produced Britney Spears’ “Toxic.” a.k.a F-ING geniuses, have a new single with that guy Spank Rock making whiney noises over their sweet bleeps and beats. Unfortunate vocals aside, I’m tripping on a new set of tweaky sounds from my favorite Swedes. Just do not try and synchronize any dance moves to this track! You will harm yourself. Seriously. I know.

[PLAYLIST] The Best REMIXES of 2011 – Part 1 (Jan-June)

Strap on your shufflin’ shoes and make sure to stretch ’cause this list is an unmerciful messenger delivering jams of the highest quality. Some of these remixes have been banned by certain unenlightened governments for igniting dance parties and group high-fives so share with care.

This edition is chock full of TBE Remix alums and a few newbies shaking things up. Everyone’s favorite, Passion Pit, nab two spots while newbie Star Slinger clinches two more. In a massive non-surprise, RAC takes a heavy slice of this pie with a full 5 slots. Hey, it’s not my fault the guy is a genius. Stay tuned to the number 1 spot to see which brand-newcomers got the number 1 spot and then make sure to leave your thoughts and additions in the comments.

25 – ♫ Britney Spears – Till The World Ends (DOCTOR ROSEN ROSEN Remix) / This isn’t so much “Till The World Ends” but more “After The World Ended.” The Britney comeback party starter gets a post-apocalyptic haunted castle treatment with the “oooh oooh”s providing a completely different effect..

24 – ♫ Miami Horror – Holidays (Butcher Blades Recreational Disaster Remix) / Best name for a remix.
