[REMIX] Cruiser – “Don’t Go Alone (Noah Hyde Remix)” + Noah Hyde roundup

i want you, i want you, i want you

♫ Cruiser -Don’t Go Alone (Noah Hyde Remix)

So picture this, I get my hands on a remix of the recently posted (and under-appreciated) Cruiser by some guy Noah Hyde. I scope Noah’s Soundcloud and discover a treasure trove of epic remixes by all-time TBE faves like Cherub, Purity Ring, Two Door Cinema Club, and Youth Lagoon. It’s like the guy has his finger on my pulse!

LETS DO A SUMMER MIXTAPE with [RAC, Adventure Club, Goldroom, Viceroy, DWNTWN, Ghost Beach, Cry Wolf and Lights & Music]

When I first started the blog feature on Lights & Music last month, this mixtape was the first idea that I put into action.  Wikipedia, in-short describes mixtapes as usually reflecting the musical tastes of its compiler, a conceptual mix of songs linked by a theme or mood tailored to the tape’s intended recipient.  Yeah sure, we’ve all made mixtapes before.  But, what happens when you get a bunch of artists and bloggers to make a mixtape with the intended recipient being you?  Thats what I wanted to find out.  The concept is simple, yet I hadn’t really seen it anywhere else.

Everyone was given two selections.  They could either choose two tracks defining their summer so far in 2012 or one new and one all-time summer favorite.  Sounds simple enough in theory, but narrowing down your favorite jams to fit that criteria was tough.  That said, this was a fun project and I intend on making this a annual event.

Without further ado, please enjoy and share with others. Read more

[VIDEO] Purity Ring – “Fineshrine”

If you have listened closely to the lyrics of “Fineshrine” you know some weird shit goes down. Ditto X 2 for the video. But weird or not, I keep watching it over and over.

[MP3] Purity Ring – “Fineshrine”

get a little closer let it fold, cut open my sternum and pull my little ribs around you

♫ Purity Ring – Fineshrine

I trading jams with a girl the other day when I asked if she knew Purity Ring she said she didn’t but that it was a horrible name for a band. She insisted it was. Fair enough on never hearing of them but that kind of disparaging talk about these freak-groove masters just didn’t sit well with me. Sure, she was just uninformed. She didn’t know. But people need to know.

[PLAYLIST] The Best SONGS of 2012 – Part 1 (Jan-June)

Lets not talk about the fact this year is already half over. Thats just insane. About as insane as the quality of jams that have been pumping through TBE HQ’s speakers these past 6 months. Here is the best of the best. Did I miss any? Did you miss any?

(Thanks to Vladimir Bobritskiy for the album art.)

25. My Great Ghost – Plain Sight / A pulsating, haunting, and thoroughly beautiful journey.

24. Purity Ring – Obedear / Slightly creepy. Very ominous. Highly Read more

Dubstep Roundup Vol. 32 – 6.18.2012 [Adventure Club, Kill Paris, Ellie Goulding, Purity Ring, and more…]

Welcome To Dubstep Roundup Vol. 32

What up my TBE peeps?  Its been long overdue, I know.  The Reason: As some of you know I’ve been working on several other projects.  Mainly, Lights & Music Entertainment; a Music Blog / Concert & Event Production Series.   Does this mean I’m done with TBE?  Nope, but most of my time will be spent building content for my own blog.  Don’t worry, my Remix & Dubstep Roundups are alive and well over there.  In fact, they are about to be better than ever.

I truly hope you have your bowels in check for this shit, because its about to get Nurdy as all get-up.

Frankly, its not safe in here.

Adventure Club – Do I See Color (Dafusia Remix) “LME” favorites get the Dafusia treatment.  Have no clue who Dafusia is, but I dig the way he treats tracks…

Band Of Horses – The Funeral (Sound Remedy Remix) / This is one hell of a melodic dubstep tune.  Sound Remedy, a Lights & Music alum, was working with magic glow-sticks when he created this gem. Read more

[MP3] Purity Ring – “Obedear”

all my dreams come back to me, all my wrinkles build on me

♫ Purity Ring – Obedear

  • Who: Corin (from Gobble Gobble) and Megan
  • What: Freaky groove waves, like The xx, Grimes, Evian Christ
  • Where: Edmonton, Canada + Facebook
  • When: Something is happening on 7/24/12.
  • Why: Just cause all their songs are one word doesn’t mean that the music is simple (or even that the “word” is). It’s been over a year since Purity Ring whispered promises in our ear as “Ungirthed.” This is only the 3rd song since then to come out but it continues pushing the envelope of their sound. “Obedear” gets darker with it’s hip-hop borrowed plink beat and pulsating wall of moans. It pretty weird but I could also see it in a prepping for battle montage scene in a major action movie. It’s got that slow tension. Lets hope they release it all on July 24th.

[MP3] Purity Ring – Belispeak

♫ Purity Ring – Belispeak

One of a few post that I’ve been meaning to get up for awhile.  Purity Ring seems to blow my mind every time.  They appear (so far) to be everything I could ask for in a band.  I will go as far to say they are on top of my list of up and coming bands to watch out for.  Stay tuned, I certainly will.

25 – ♫ Baby Monster – Mr. Success / These guys snuck in with a jam that just kept getting better with each listen. Oooooh ooooo ooooo!

24 – ♫ The Weeknd – House Of Balloons/Glass Table Girls / Dark, dirty, and not for public consumption. But damn if I can’t get enough.

23 – ♫ Motopony – King of Diamonds / Should be higher up on the list but with another Motopony track below I am basically sneaking this track in. An amazing song.

22 – ♫ Vacationer – Trip / A love song written by Read more

Joel’s Summer/Birthday Mix 2011 [Calvin Harris, LMFAO, Empire of The Sun, Lady Gaga, and more…]

Ahhh the wonders of summer.  A time for great tunes, butterflies, unicorns, puppies, summer flings, confetti birthday cakes, cookies and all your favorite things.

Maybe most importantly, its for Getting Nurdy and Party Rock Shuffling your faces off.

This special time of year begs for a soundtrack.  So, I thought, what better day to post something as monumental and life altering as my summer mix, then on the most important day of the year.  MY BIRTHDAY!

[EP] GOBBLE GOBBLE are anything but BORING and it would be a HORROR to lose them

that’s not what your body said

♫ Gobble Gobble – Boring Horror

Hold on to your faces, people, new Gobble Gobble just in time to loosen your limbs and send you into Friday ready for full dance floor flexing! “Boring Horror” is another ultra-spazz electro jam that defies you to move in time with the insane beats, jittery sounds, and chopped vocals. Gobble Gobble are the clearly insane Canadians behind last years epic “Seizure To The Metronome” and the whirlwind “Eat Son Son” (Part of the band is in side project Purity Ring as well!)  Those two tracks are bundled with “Boring Horror” and a couple fantastic remixes on this song’s 12″ single (I’m gonna call it an EP) which is out now! Play with care, everyone. Chiropractic care is not cheap.

[MP3] PURITY RING have just UNGIRTHED their debut single on us all

ears ringing, teeth clicking

♫ Purity Ring – Ungirthed

I have no idea what ungirthed is supposed to mean but it may have something to do with the Capoeira-like battle dance between the ghostly dub drone and spritely angelic singing that is this magical song. Set that scene amidst stuttering and wobbly beats and twinkling instruments and you’ve got one of the more oddly addictive songs of the year so far. No surprise, really, when you know that Purity Ring is the side project of one of the guys in Canadian indie-spazzers Gobble Gobble, one of my favorite bands to freak their way onto the scene last year. Purity Ring is a different kind of beast, but one that that seems doubtless to lumber it’s way through our speakers much more this year.
