Slow Club – “Complete Surrender”

Slow Club have always been an elusive band. After playing our SXSW showcase back in 2012 they pretty much disappeared from our musical radar. “Compete Surrender” is a about as exciting a return as I could have hoped. A jangling bongo filled jam that proves these two are always evolving. Their new album Complete Surrender is out in July.

[REMIX] Slow Club – “Beginners (King of Town Remix)”

as your bones grew, why did you become you?

♫ Slow Club – Beginners (King of Town Remix)

Slow Club already have mellow and dreamy down pretty pat but this delicate remix adds just a touch of groove to the song, nudging it into a funkier territory that I am quite enjoying. It’s the kind of restrained remixing I love in RAC and Hannes Fischer. Only time will tell if newbies King Of Town will reach that status.

[LIVE] SXSW Day 4 Recap + 360° Interviews

Slow Club gives it oh so sweetly.

What can I say about day 4 that wont make you green with St Paddy’s themed envy if you weren’t actually there to witness it? A bonus set by new TBE faves Cherub happened. Plus a lot more varieties of rock (sexy, tender, party, etc). Stay tuned for a proper recap of my favorite shows of the TBE parties but in the meantime read on for the 360 interviews! Read more

[QUICKIE] Slow Club – PARADISE

I dig “Where I’m Waking” (+video) & rest of the LP is ok/fun but having trouble finding the same powerful moments from their debut. 5/10

[Quickies are mini-reviews that can fit into a 140 character tweet. They are of albums that people already know of but perhaps are curious about our take on it. What did you think of the disc?]

[MIX] A Burning Ear Christmas 2010 – Three Servings of Cheer

It’s only a week until Christmas!!

This years mix almost didn’t happen because I thought I wouldn’t have time to dig up good tracks but then they just started popping up and a lot of them were very cool. I grabbed the best and threw them together here for a holiday mix in three parts. First get funky with the dance party starters then slip into some original X-mas tunes by artists old and new and close it off with some reworked classics. I hope you all enjoy these jams and have yourselves a kick ass holiday season!

For more jams or by any of these artists use the ‘tags’ links at the bottom of the post!

The Best Albums of 2009 / The Top 15

This is it. The best of the best. As determined by me and in alphabetical-by-artist order. This list has been a labor of love and it is an honor to pay tribute to so many fantastic albums. With that said, don’t hesitate to lift your leg and leave your own mark in the comments. Or just track down the albums here that you don’t know and get down with a good set of headphone. I know these lists are self indulgent and often pointless but they are fun nonetheless. A big thank you to all the TBE readers who stick with me day after day and trudge through my ramblings. Ok, I’m out. Carry on! Read more
