Music for… inspiring a playlist that SOCKS it 2 summer. The sassitude of classic Missy Elliott takes a daytrip to the beach and the mix makes you say “Ooh Ahh”.
I know, I know. I promised that The Remix Roundups were back when I posted Vol 71 but then life happened and anyway, here is Vol 72 for your weekend enjoyment! I’ve posted a bunch of these before but its sure been a while and now that the weather is warmer just grab the whole playlist and kick out the jams!

If the Jammer download page is not working with Facebook connect then please let me know in the comments below. There have been some problems and I want to get them sorted.
I’m sorry but sitting here in Mexico with a $2.50 margarita in hand, fish tacos on my breath, and a view of the pacific stretching out in front of me, I’m not inclined to write too much here. But if you close your eyes while listening to this jam then you may just be able to imagine you are right here with me. Go on, take a sip of this. Taste the fresh squeezed orange in it? Yeah… that’s good…
2012 was a fantastic year for party songs. It seems that music is having more fun than ever and I couldn’t be happier to share it with you all. We’ve all had some epic parties set to some epic party playlists and tonight is the night to top them all. (Or not, really. Nothing worse than NYE pressure.) So take a trip down the Read more
let me tell you bout this old school, pourin’ lean, candy yams and collard greens, pocket fulla stones ridin’ clean
In lieu of posting a whiny and dissapoined review of the new Passion Pit album I’m gonna go with this kicked up K.R.I.T. mashup courtesy of kings of the genre Hood Internet. One of my favorite songs of 2010 perfectly spices up one of the more disappointing ones of 2012. Time travel on the dance floor!
sparkles on my champagne independence day i ain’t really want yo number yo friend look better anyway
Could the music of Twin Shadow’s “Five Seconds” be so solid and genre-hopping that it could mashup with any upbeat song!? I don’t know!? And it really doesn’t matter. It works like a charm here. And now I feel like I know Waka better without actually having to listen to his music. Bonus!
got the flow down phizat, platinum plus like thizat, dangerous
I don’t think I really need to explain this one.
don’t talk about it, be about it
I already said it but apparently it bears repeating: The Hood Internet are baaaaack. Party on.
don’t play the game that i can’t win
- Who: ABX and STV SLV
- What: Indie/rap mashups, like Bearbot, Invisiboy, It’s Overture
- Where: Chicago, IL + Facebook
- When: Sweet mashups served weekly.
- Why: The Hood Internet are the gold standard in indie/rap mashups but the Burning Ear hasn’t featured a new jam of theirs since Christmas 2010. I was beginning to think they done fell off.
Then they dropped Volume Six of their mixtape series and all worry was washed away by the most seamless collection of genius mashup choices this year. Just scroll through the tracklist here to see what I mean. From the unexpected (Wiz + Phantogram, Mayer Hawthorne + M83, Tyga + Neon Indian) to the predictably balanced (Whitney + Chromeo, Ma$e + Notorious B.I.G. + Penguin Prison) The Hood Internet live up to that album art of deftly concocting dance party magic.
I highly recommend you do not start a party this year without this mix on hand. Stream the whole thing below and download it free here.
Wow. Another mind-bending milestone in the TBE saga. 1000 is a big number but in the grand scheme of things it will only be the tip of the iceberg. Running this site for the past 28 months has been an honor and privilege and we all look forward to dropping more sweet jams for a long time to come. For now lets celebrate with a little mixtape I put together below. There is a theme in there somewhere…
There are some potential changes to the site underway but until I get a breather from work I won’t be able to think about any of that. I can say that today I will be retiring my tradition of post titles. There were a thing I started waaay back when and although they are sometimes fun I feel like a more straightforward title may be smoother for everyone involved. The Internet is confusing enough without me trying to “clever” with my post titles. Try to hold back the tears, I know. Anyway, to the music! Read more
