[PREMIERE – MP3] Y LUV – “Bloodbuzz Ohio (The National Cover)”

[soundcloud id=’137163024′]

Y Luv have never been afraid to get nasty with an electric guitar and they bring that riffage right up front on this “Bloodbuzz Ohio” cover. It’s a song with a place in all of our hearts and now that place just got a bit more weird. The fog machine is on high and that Lava lamp is kicking out some awesome shapes. And the music… the music is not loud enough. Turn it up!

Y LUV – “Jacques Cousteau”

[soundcloud id=’136697176′]

Los Angeles’ Y Luv have been flying under too many radars for far too long. These guys consistently kick out some big shredding jams and “Jacques Cousteau” is no exception. Full of energy, grit, hooks, and no shortage of the guitar and bass licks that make me love these guys so much.

Stay tuned for their cover of The National’s “Bloodbuzz Ohio”for The Burning Ear 5 Year Anniversary Album on Friday…

The Happy Birthday TBE Album – With exclusive covers and remixes from Noah Hyde, Pr0files, Lincoln Jesser, Parade of Lights and more…

This is just a teaser to get you all as excited as I am. To celebrate the 5th birthday of The Burning Ear I’m putting together an album of exclusive remixes of covers of the best TBE jams of the past 5 years. The list goes one and makes my heart skip a beat every time I read it. And dont even get me started on heart skips when I LISTEN to these jams. Holy cow. You guys are in for a treat.

AND THEN, there is the epic album artwork above created by the amazing Meghan Ellie Smith. I’m basically a mess of excitement over here.

Stay tuned. The project rolls out next week….

[MP3] Y Luv – TAKE THE RIDE EP (w/ “All I Wanna Do”)

Y Luv - TAKE THE RIDE

oh its just a little bit of feelin’ too fine

Y Luv recently released the All I Wanna Do EP and I subsequently became obsessed with them all over again. “All I Wanna Do” kicks things off with a massive groove, epic guitar riffage, and a chorus that begs for sing alongs (Also a trippy desert adventure/party video). These guys are perfecting their brand of indie psych rock more with every jam. “Fire” has a propulsive synth groove and singer Freddy Janney is almost rapping at times yet the whole thing flows effortlessly. Download the whole EP below and grab soaring slow burner “My Sweet Life” and a radio edit of fan favorite “Driftin”.

Also up for streaming is new track “Just Enough” the guys wrote with Chris Cester of Damn Dogs and Jet. It’s a more stripped back sound for Y Luv but still shows off their knack for catchy rock music.

[MP3] Y Luv – “Driftin”

time was moving like it will often do, words were bending out and into the truth

DO YOU REALLY NEED ME TO EXPLAIN WHY NEW Y LUV IS AWEOME?!

I Didn’t think so. This piano-led live favorite can now go into your earholes whenever you want! Happy Friday.

P.S. Get lost in that album art.

[LIVE] Y Luv @ The Roxy, Hollywood, CA – 6/23/12

♫ Y Luv – Earthquakes

Hey remember when you read an article about Guns N Roses or some other big 80s Hollywood band and they talked about how the LA scene revolved around The Roxy? Yeah that aint true anymore. Epic rockers Y Luv were invited to play a KROQ locals only show there on Saturday night and besides their awkward set time of 8:30, they were rushed with a 10 minute set up time. Not ideal. However they obviously killed it, rocking some new faces and pleasing some old ones. A couple new tracks debuted and I’m stoked to hear them recorded. Oh, and did I mention that bands should not play The Roxy in LA? And can someone please buy me a new concert camera already? I’m sick of looking at my crap iPhone pictures.

[REMIX] Y Luv – “Never Touch The Ground (Gazzo Remix)” & “All Night (Zhu remix)”

i know that we’re getting older, what else can we do?

♫ Y Luv – Never Touch The Ground (Gazzo Remix)

LA legends in the making Y Luv just got a fresh coat of pulsating strobe paint on EP highlight “Never Touch The Ground” thanks to Gazzo. Drop it at your next party as an excuse to get more fools listening to Y Luv! Grab more Gazzo gold at his Soundcloud while you are at it!

The Best SONGS of 2011 – Pt. 2 (July-Dec)

Songs are pretty amazing things. It’s magical that such a small thing can be so powerful. In the blink of an eye a song can make you smile, dance, cry, think, laugh, etc. These are the ones that did all those things for me the second half of 2011.  Read more

[MP3/LIVE] Y LUV – “Keep It Rollin” + Live at Silverlake Lounge 12/7/2011

so here we are, me and myself now

♫ Y LUV – Keep It Rollin

One of the year’s best EPs was just followed up with this fantastic track. “Keep It Rollin” is a bit of a slow-burner as churns along with signature Y LUV momentum, vocals soaring high and wide as guitars noodle underneath and my brain softens with joy. The band released another jam earlier this month called “Earthquakes” which you can grab for free at their Bandcamp. The sweetness continues.

LA’s Y LUV are not getting nearly the attention they deserve and that was very apparent at their criminally under-attended show tonight at Silverlake Lounge. The guys ripped the house down, blasting through airtight renditions of all the jams on the How Chill Can You Let Go EP. They are clearly talented musicians who definitely deliver a show worth catching. I can easily see these guys working a crowd into a frenzy of jumping and singing along.  Damn Wednesdays.

[EP] Y Luv – HOW CHILL CAN YOU LET GO (w/ “All Night”)

oh it feels like you, oh i wait for you

♫ Y Luv – All Night

Just press play on this one. It’s one of those jams that will get a lot of mileage with me because while it is super funky and offbeat it still has that kind of universal appeal that means it can work on a mixtape for my aunt. It’s epic and intimate and dance-y and rock-y and hot damn I cant stop jamming it. The fresh-on-the-scene Y Luv have misleadingly titled EP called How Chill Can You Let Go which along with the album art makes me think chillwave, which these jams are anything but. This is rock-wave, or stadium-wave, or wave-wave or something. “Never Touch The Ground,” for example, is cat-nip for the fist-pumpin while singing at the sky dude inside me. Oh yeah, and the EP is free. Stream/download it after the jump.
