Brandon’s TBE Digest 24 – [7.6.2011] New Jams, Remixes, Mashups & Covers!

If you thought I died then that’s silly. I been here, just busy as all get out between work and then holidays and then the Open’er Festival. I’ve had this digest simmering for an extended minute now so cool kids take a chill pill if you are already up on these. Rock on folks and expect vol. 25 sooner than soon.

NEW RELEVENT JAMS

♫ J. Cole – Work Out / Another smooth jam from J. Cole. I like this guy’s flavor.

♫ Portugal, The Man – Got It All (This Can’t Be Living Now) / New Portugal! Not my favorite of their tracks but their stuff is generally on a different level anyway.

♫ Hercules & Love Affair – Painted Eyes (Radio Edit) / I’ve heard a few of the new Hercules tracks and while they are no “Blind” this one definitely has some nice elastic thump. Blue Songs is out now.

♫ Fool’s Gold – Street Clothes / Fool’s Gold come back just in time for summer. But this one isn’t quite as summery and fun as 2009’s season defining “Surprise Hotel.”

♫ jj – no one can touch us tonight / I really want to like jj. And I do. I guess just not enough to give them their own post.

REMIXES

♫ Toro y Moi – New Beat (Fare Soldi “CantaTu” rmx) / Toro y Moi has picked up some of the best remix treatments of the year and this “New Beat” banger is up there. I love that extra handclap action and kicked up beat.

♫ James Blake – Wilhelm Scream (Master Rogers remix) / Master Rogers takes this 2011 classic on a sunset shuffle ride to Funksville and I’m in line for a ticket. The masterful Master Rogers (beatmaker behind Mouth’s Cradle) released an EP of 8 remixes from artists like Discovery, Lily Allen, Yeasayer, and more. Check it out here for free.

♫ Austra – Lose It (Diamond Rings Remix) / Can I officially request that these two musical entities work together more? It’s like bananas and strawberries, meant to be blended together and served in a festive glass.

♫ Architecture In Helsinki – Contact High (Javelin Remix) / No easy feat topping Clock Opera’s EPIC remix so Javelin bring their awkward bounce to the table and serve up something completely different.

♫ Kreayshawn – Gucci Gucci (K.Flay Remix) / So Kreayshawn is a thing. Figure out your own feelings on the oddball rapper with her big hit “Gucci Gucci” and it’s K.Flay remix here. Then grab her new track “Rich Whores” here. I still can’t tell if this chick is hot or freaks me out. I guess that’s the point…

♫ Diddy Dirty Money – I Hate That You Love Me (Sinden Edit) / Sinden does what Sinden does and Sinden does it on Diddy this time. Now move.

♫ Dev – In The Dark (DJ Vice Remix) -Radio Edit / Cause DJ Vice knows a thing or two about moving dancefloors and up-n-comer Dev is down to provide the backing track. Now keep moving.

♫ Two Door Cinema Club – Come Back Home [IS TROPICAL CHILLA BLACK EDIT] / Dug this oldie off the Is Tropical site and not sure how I missed it. Skreechee Geetars! Niice.

♫ Beastie Boys – Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win feat. Santigold (Major Lazer Remix) / A lot of talent on this track. Hold onto something solid. ANd prepare for air-horns.

MASHUPS

♫ The Jane Doze – Tegan The Creator (The Jane Doze Mashup) / In a brilliant bit of blog-beef-capitalizing The Jane Doze did this mashup that ended up turning up actually quite awesome. Tyler should squash the beef and get the Quinn sisters doing some more production for him.

COVERS

♫ Parts and Labor – Runaway (Kanye West Cover) / The tension of Kanye’s modern classic get’s stretched to the breaking point with the help of distorted guitars and ambient droning. Damn. Messed up and awesome.

Don’t worry about it. They’re not that interesting. Their first album was conceptually cool, I guess, but everything that has followed has been almost identical. Also, their live performance is the absolute worst I have been to.

All said, thanks for another sweet mixtape.
