[LIVE] Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes @ The Greek – May 4th

Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroes – Janglin (RAC Mix)

If you have ever been to The Greek then you know what an awesome venue it is for live music. Its the small club equivalent of it’s famed neighbor The Hollywood Bowl. And its beautiful. Coincidentally so are all 11 members of The Magnetic Zeroes. But somehow beauty wasn’t enough to sell me on their stage show. The music sounded great. Lush and expansive and “Janglin,” but something in the chemistry was lost. The spark between Alexander and Jade on classics like “Home” is the thing that sold the world on their brand of hippie rock and last night it felt, well, gone. (Along with Alexander’s ability to remember the lyrics to new single “That’s What’s Up”) Sure they broke up years ago but, Alexander, put on a stage face. Do it for the kids. Do it for the other 10 members of your band killing it on their instruments. Do it for me.

[LIVE] Tanlines @ The Echo 4/30/12

Tanlines – Real Life

Some people say you shouldn’t have backing tracks in live shows. I say shut up and listen to Tanlines rocking your insides. Because that’s what they did. Not even poor vocal volume on Eric or unnecessary stage banter from Jessie could take away from the straight party these guys brought. Everyone in the room was dancing by the time they closed out with “Real Life.” It’s just too bad the tour ended tonight.

[MP3] Cherub – “Hold Me (Ft. Dominic Lalli)” & “Minez Yourz (My Body)”

fuck reality, it’s much better in my sleep

♫ Cherub – Hold Me (Ft. Dominic Lalli)

  • Who: Jason & Jordan.
  • What: Lightly carbonated sex music, like Chromeo, Ghostland Observatory, Bastian.
  • Where: Nashville, TN + Facebook / Amazon
  • When: LP Mom & Dad is out now.
  • Why: What do you do when you have 4 days of music showcases starting the next day, you haven’t tested out your venue yet, and there are two guys asking to play a show that night? Well, when they are as charming as Jason and Jordan from Cherub, you let them. And then when they rock the house as hard and Jason and Jordan from Cherub you invite them back. The Burning Ear parties saw two full Cherub shows last week and both of them were tops of the week. Hot stuff. Listen to “Hold Me” and you get a sense of the kind of straight faced heart on sleeve sex music we are dealing with. See the song live and it’s some next level steam.

♫ Cherub – Minez  Yourz (My Body)

Cherub’s debut LP Mom & Dad is out now and will be the subject of more words here but in the meantime grab onto a funky piece of last year’s Man of the Hour EP. The guys are on a big tour right now and I’m just trying to get you motivated to go get sexy at a show.

[LIVE] SXSW Day 4 Recap + 360° Interviews

Slow Club gives it oh so sweetly.

What can I say about day 4 that wont make you green with St Paddy’s themed envy if you weren’t actually there to witness it? A bonus set by new TBE faves Cherub happened. Plus a lot more varieties of rock (sexy, tender, party, etc). Stay tuned for a proper recap of my favorite shows of the TBE parties but in the meantime read on for the 360 interviews! Read more

[MP3/LIVE] The Good Natured – “Video Voyeur” (+ recent LA shows)

just give me what i want, don’t leave me hanging til the morning light

♫ The Good Natured – Video Voyeur

Try to contain your jealous rage when you hear that I got to catch The Good Natured live this week… and last week. Yeah, pretty radical. And the fact that they absolutely smashed both shows doesn’t hurt either. New stand-alone single “Video Voyeur” opened their set both times, kicking things off tight and right. An audio freight heading for partyville. The trio rocked hard, with Sarah alternating between jaunts into the heart of the audience for “Be My Animal” and wailing on a big drum for “Skeleton.” Hot. What she didn’t alternate doing was having some of the finest legs to ever grace a stage. I guess “flaut ’em if you got ’em” goes for jams and gams. Nice.

Check out more photos of Monday’s School Night show (which also featured Evan Voytas and Har Mar Superstar) here.
