[EVENT] Hyundai Re:Mix Labs Roundup: Anamanaguchi, Cut Chemist, & Jason Reitman

♫ Anamanaguchi – Airbrushed (RAC Remix)

Whew. What a busy week! Hyundai’s Re:Mix lab was a wild success and kept my evening full and free. The best way to be. Friday night was a ripping live set from Anamanaguchi and their 2 on-stage Nintendo consoles (above). After people reassembled their faces from the Read more

[EVENT] Re:Mix Labs Update: Skrillex, DJ Premiere & College PLUS Anamanaguchi still to come!

♫ Skrillex vs Capital Cities – Kill Everybody vs Safe and Sound (Soft Spoken mashup)

I can’t really stand Skrillex (aside from the great mashup above) but seeing the dude that draws tens-of-thousands blow his bass in an intimate venue was pretty cool for sure. Thats him next to DJ Premiere on stage at the Re:Mix labs event from Wednesday night. I missed Erykah Badu and some other big guests but heard it was pretty sweet. The night before had been DJ sets from College and a killer live show from Caught A Ghost (researching them now). So, I don’t know what you L.A. based slackers have been doing but I expect to see you foolios out tonight for Anamanaguchi and tomorrow for what looks to be a very interesting talk between director Jason Reitman (Juno, Thank You For Smoking) and turntablist Cut Chemist (Ozomatli, general awesomeness). Until then!

[MP3/LIVE] Y LUV – “Keep It Rollin” + Live at Silverlake Lounge 12/7/2011

so here we are, me and myself now

♫ Y LUV – Keep It Rollin

One of the year’s best EPs was just followed up with this fantastic track. “Keep It Rollin” is a bit of a slow-burner as churns along with signature Y LUV momentum, vocals soaring high and wide as guitars noodle underneath and my brain softens with joy. The band released another jam earlier this month called “Earthquakes” which you can grab for free at their Bandcamp. The sweetness continues.

LA’s Y LUV are not getting nearly the attention they deserve and that was very apparent at their criminally under-attended show tonight at Silverlake Lounge. The guys ripped the house down, blasting through airtight renditions of all the jams on the How Chill Can You Let Go EP. They are clearly talented musicians who definitely deliver a show worth catching. I can easily see these guys working a crowd into a frenzy of jumping and singing along.  Damn Wednesdays.

They all have something really unique about their style, like they’ve pulled together obscure pieces of the past and invented something new. Why did I pick these four? Well, I saw all of them perform in the span of a week recently, and the whole time I felt like I was on a freakish ride through the minds of some of the most fascinating men in music today.

This is my debut article for The Burning Ear as their new concert reviewer for Vancouver, so I thought I’d do something a little different and pull all these artists together into one big article. Read more

A native of Poznan, she made the trek to Katowice for the Tauron New Music Festivallast weekend to see the band I was most bummed I couldn’t see: When Saints Go Machine. Cheers to Arletta for the review and double cheers for writing it all in her second language. Read on for her review, some photos (by Agnieszka Wojtaszek) and their great new video for the fantastic “Kelly.”

THE GAY BLADES are a must see live

If you have been following TBE for awhile you may, like me, have seen Brandon feature The Gay Blades once or twice.  Subsequently, when I saw they were coming to Austin, I of course asked Brandon “what’s up with these guys?”  He told me they are a “cant miss” live.  Well, last night I was properly introduced to The Gay Blades and I gotta be honest,… they F’n killed it.  Their stage presence and crowd interaction showed me that these dudes seriously fancy putting on a show.  The Gay Blades are still a relatively unknown band, and the crowd or lack there of was proof.  It didn’t take long though, for them to capture every bit of attention in Emo’s indoor bar.  By the end of the night, that joint was rocking tough.  The highlight of the show was when The Blades invited the crowd on stage like Girl Talk so infamously does.  Below I have included their tour schedule… you’d be crazy to miss them in your city.
