[VIDEO/COVER] Taylor Berrett feat. Vita Chambers – “Take Care” (Drake cover)

The Take Care highlight gets a delicate acoustic reworking thanks to some tender souls with great voices that nobody has heard of.

[COVER] Sunday Girl – “Where Is My Mind” (Pixies cover)

with your feet in the air and your head on the ground, try this trick and spin it, yeah

♫ Sunday Girl – Where Is My Mind (Pixies cover)

Holy smokes. Silence everything and let this one play loud against the hollow air of winter. If all the attention this song has gotten since Fight Club has worn it a bit thin then this will breath life right back in. Sunday Girl strips the Pixies classic to a bones of keys and strings and then laces the whole thing with the lean meat of her crystal pipes. It’s sparse. It’s gorgeous. It’s the beautiful sound of losing it at the holidays. It is also soundtracking a touching UK travel commercial.

Brandon’s TBE Digest 31 – [12.11.2011] New Jams, Remixes, & Covers!

Artwork by Jacob Youngblood Ziegler

Brandon’s TBE Digest is a place where I gather up all the recent jams that are worth a listen (or 10) but don’t necessarily need their own post. Here you will find new tracks by known bands, remixes, covers, and even mashups if they are interesting. My favorites of the lot are in bold.

This may be the last Digest I do like this. I’d really like to take the time to give the best of these tracks the solo post they deserve. If anyone feels strongly about this news leave it in the comments below. Otherwise rock on Wayne and rock on Garth.

A big batch of goodies this time round. Plus, since it’s a nice round number Jacob Youngblood Ziegler hooked us up with a fancy Anniversary Edition of the TBE Digest art. Stare at it in awe as you listen.

It’s a big one folks. Proceed with caution (and good speakers). Also note the new Digest logo that will be here to stay. Enough of that little weird cartoon guy we had for so long, amiright!? Cheers to new beginnings! And new jams!

[MP3] RAC – “1979”

I don’t even care to shake these zipper blues

♫ RAC – 1979

Celebrating reaching ten thousand (count ’em!) fans on Facebook, RAC has released this great cover track of The Smashing Pumpkins’ “1979.” Since I cannot explain it any better than the artists themselves, here is what RAC had to say about it:

Many many years ago my buddy Filipe gave me a burnt cd with this file on it. It was this new thing called mp3 and apparently it was the future. I happily installed winamp (2.9 for lyfe) and listened to this particular song on repeat. It’s all I had. That might not mean much, but it was just the start of what became my musical journey. I obviously liked music before that, but access was always a serious barrier. Napster came along and suddenly I had access to a lot more (On a 56k connection). A lot of people whine and whine about piracy but forget about the obvious benefit. I’m able to do music for a living today because mp3’s opened the door for independent music. It leveled the playing field. People are far more musically educated today than they were 10 years ago. It seriously educated me. There’s still a lot of horrible music today, but at least you know about the good stuff.

The song was 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins. I figured it would be cool to do a cover. It had been a while since I did a track with my wife, so this seemed like a great opportunity for that. We tried to keep it relatively close to the original but definitely putting our own spin on it.

Congratulations guys! Here’s to ten thousand more fans, and plenty beyond that!
