Remix Roundup Vol. 16 – 2.5.10

Another collection of recent remixes for your listening pleasure. Some real gems in a here and a few others that are more “interesting” than “awesome.” Read on. Rock om. And if you want more jams by any of these artists use the ‘tags’ links at the bottom of the post!

♫ Vampire Weekend – Cousinz (Toy Selectah Mex-More Remix) / The challenge of the evening is going to have more fun than this remix. It’s as if the song itself is grinning from ear to ear. And jumping up and down.

♫ Boy 8-Bit – Baltic Pine (Run Hide Survive Remix) / Remixing an instrumental track is tricky territory. Without a well known vocal track to lean on how do you make it your own while still maintaining the original’s integrity and awesomeness? Definitely tricky, but good to know it’s not impossible.

♫ Chromeo – Night By Night (Midnight Conspiracy Remix) / Just as nighttime approaches slowly, so does this jam. Hitting the 60 second mark is like walking out of a matinee and realizing it’s dark and time to party.

♫ The Antlers – Two (Buffetlibre Remix) / I never thought such a beautiful song about broken relationships, death, and a hospital could sound so upbeat and optimistic. It’s a weird feeling but I really dig it.

♫ Dragonette – Pick Up the phone (Arithmatix (Michael Van She) Mix) / Another week another clubworthy Drgaonette remix. This 80’s synth infused version comes courtesy of Michael from Van She so it’s no surprise that it hits all the right beats.

♫ Wiley – Never Be Your Woman (Hervé Re-work) / My boy Hervé serves up his take on Wiley’s snoozer and oddly enough, it sounds veeery similar to last roundup’s Solo Remix. I can’t really tell the difference. Either way, it’s better than the original.

♫ The Soundmen – Every Body Move feat Jdown Valmont (90’s Kills Mix) / Mixing in Ce Ce Peniston’s 80’s jam “Finally” gives this dirty club bumper a bit of throwback flavor as well as a female vocal sample to edit into suggestive “Aoh” sounds. Nice.

♫ Phoenix – 1901 (Memory Tapes Mix) / Memory Tapes’ remixes are usually on point but this version leaves something to be desired. We start getting a taste of the Memory Tapes magic around the 1:50 mark but it never fully takes off.

♫ MEN – Simultaneously (Lauren Flax Remix) / There are multiple reasons to love “Simultaneously” so why can’t there be multiple reasons to enjoyed it remixed? Here Lauren Flax lights a couple candles and settles us in to a bit of a mellow and haunted take that would do well as the score to some short film about revenge in the rain.

♫ MEN – Simultaneously (Tête-À-Tête Remix) / Tête-À-Tête, on the other hand, kick things right up and deliver a version that would be the perfect soundtrack to some short film about revenge in the rain… in a Delorean! And with awesome leather jackets with shoulder pads! On men!

♫ Lady Gaga ft. Beyonce – Telephone (Doctor Rosen Rosen Rx) / The big Gaga/Beyonce collabo gets a bleepy, crunchy remix treatment that definitely delivers the goods. Expect for that damned ‘off-the-hook’ tone that pops up now and then. Is there a more annoying sound that that?

♫ The Hood Internet – Ignition (Keep It Remixing Louder) (R. Kelly vs Major Lazer) / Another truly inspired mashup from The Hood Internet. Now that mashups are supposedly “sooo 2002” it just means that the only people making them are people who should. These two songs have been woven together so seamlessly it’s impossible not to get hyped!

♫ The Hood Internet – Summer Of Tik Tok (Ke$ha vs YACHT) / Now that Yacht is finally “sooo 2009” it’s nice to see that the only way I have to listen to them is when they get mixed to perfection by people with the proper skills.

♫ Dave Wrangler – Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (Daft Punk vs The Whitest Boy Alive) / If Kanye didn’t ruin this Daft Punk classic for you then you might still be able to get down with Dave Wrangler’s stealthy mix with The Whitest Boy Alive‘s “1517.” I’m down.

normally my tastes align pretty closely with TBE…so i can't believe you're not a YACHT fan! give 'em another chance, even if it is 2010. they are quite awesome.

Hmm, I have “Psychic City” “Its Boring” and “Summer Song” and just didn't get into any of them. BUT, with that said, your recommendation has given me reason to give em another shot.
