Remix Roundup Vol. 23 – 6.18.2010 [Oasis, RAC, Crystal Castles, Tokyo Police Club, Major Lazer]

Damn. This roundup is huge. I been slippin on my pimpin and sooo many great tracks have piled up. Dive in.

For more jams or by any of these artists use the ‘tags’ links at the bottom of the post!

♫ Oasis – Wonderwall (Questions Version) / Jay-Z fucked up his attempt and Ryan Adams’ cover is beautiful. Now we have this remix to add a little gritty funk to these timeless lyrics. Sweet.

♫ Rox – I Don’t believe (DON DIABLO REMIX) / Don Diablo doing what he does best: getting this dude pumped! I haven’t heard the original but at this point why bother?

♫ The Virgins – Rich Girls (Le Castle Vania Remix) / Another fresh “Rich Girls” remix? Umm, yes please!

♫ Nas & Damian Marley – As We Enter (Tinie Tempah Remix) / This Tinie Tempah dude is some up and coming grime rapper in the UK and he’s thrown a few verses on this jam. I’m down.

♫ Kristen Wiig (Feat. Lightspeed Champion) – Champion (RAC Mix) / RAC ventures into power metal with his typically awesome take on this MacGruber jam!

♫ Rubik – Wasteland (RAC Mix) / Besides being remixed by RAC, these Finns just dropped an EP you can nab for free and are touring The States right now! They are also being tour managed by the singer from The Gay Blades. Sweetness.

♫ Tokyo Police Club – Wait Up (Boots Of Danger) (DOM Remix) / I’m still chewing on the new TPC album but “Wait Up” is definitely a highlight and this DOM remix aint to shabby either. It’s ramshackle in all the right ways and makes me want to drive!

♫ The Morning Benders – Cold War (Wallpaper. Winter Remix) / Remix masters Wallpaper put a dreamy rainy-day spin on this Big Echo highlight.

♫ Crystal Castles – Suffocation (Memory Tapes Remix) / Memory Tapes strips away the abrasiveness on this spaced-out remix that’s perfect for this gloomy weather.

♫ Memory Tapes – Bicycle (Tanlines Remix) / Tanlines do their spooky beach-blanket luau thing on this Memory Tapes classic.

♫ Wave Machines – Keep The Lights On (Artwork Remix) / Remember Wave Machines from over a year ago? Well you should cause their solid album finally dropped in the US and their sexy jam “Keep The Lights On” has got an extended good times slow jam remix treatment from Artwork.

♫ Yael Naim – Toxic (16 Bit Dubstep Remix) / This Yael Naim gal covered “Toxic” and now it’s got itself a dubstep remix useful for creeping out your little sister.

♫ M.I.A. – XXXO (rmx) f. Jay-Z / M.I.A. annoys the shit out of me and I poo-pooed “XXXO” not that long ago but I have to admit that I woke up this morning with this chorus in my head. Credit has to be given to this remix that features Jay-Z dropping some rhymes. Crank it for the weekend!

♫ Kid Cudi vs LCD Soundsystem – All Talk ft. Chip Tha Ripper & Christian Bale / Cudi takes the best track of LCD’s latest and completely cuts out the good parts to craft his remix thing. Despite all that, this jam has some charm.

♫ Plushgun – Mixtapes (Buffetlibre Remix) / The original isn’t on Plushgun’s solid album from last year but instead comes from Buffetlibre’s awesome PEACE project and now the hosts have remixed it for our dancing-in-our-underwear pleasure.

♫ Major Lazer & La Roux – Bulletproof (Nacey Remix ft. Matt Hemerlein) / Diplo and Switch took some time off while recording their next Major Lazer album to play around with La Roux’s album. The whole mixtape of Major Lazered La Roux tracks is available free here! This haunting reworking of “Bulletproof” kicks off the mixtape and stands out for it’s completely different vibe. They even threw in some of those spine tingling Requiem For A Dream strings in there.

♫ Mochi Beats – California Nightlife (Katy Perry + Cyndi Lauper + Huey + Laidback Luke + Colby O’Donis mashup) / Alright, party time now! Turn it up and enjoy the ride!

♫ The Hood Internet – Oh My Kids (Usher vs Sleigh Bells) / Hells yeah! Usher’s buttery smooth croon spread over Sleigh Bells crunchiness!

♫ The White Panda – Ready For My Neck, My Back / After posting that great White Panda remix last time I was encouraged to check out some other of their mashups and dug up this piece of inspired dirtiness!

♫ Robyn vs Salt N Pepa – Push It Fembot (A Rokk Pie N Mash Up) / Grrrl power!

Gotta be honest, not one of my favorite Rmx roundups. I did like the Oasis, Plushgun and Wave Machines remixes though. Here are a few recent ones that Ive been listening to. Shwayze- Buzzin (Classixx Remix), Amy Macdonald- Spark (Discotech Remix), The Good Natured- Your Body Is A Machine (Baby Monster remix) this one is a BEAST, Mike Posner- Open Up Your Eyes (Gigamesh & DiscoTech Remix) another epic jam, Robyn- Dancing On My Own (Buzz Junkies Club Mix), and Jordan Sparks- S.O.S. (Disco Tech extended remix). Im not sure if that is the the same DiscoTech we are used to or not. I know that is a lot but these tunes are on point.

    One issue, one love –
Firstly, Tinie Tempah is the worst thing to happen to British music this year. (Which is an exaggeration, but it sounds very final and suitably awesome) – I don't think his addition to the Nas/Marley track does anything but ruin the original. (Am I biased against anything he'll do after his breakthrough track – on which he purports to lead a 'very very very wild lifestyle'? Yeah)
Loving the Usher Vs Sleigh Bells, nice to see The Hood Internet back on form

Hey Joel, I feel ya. I get more and more remixes these days that I am not necessarily in love with but they still have something interesting/noteworthy going on. These roundups are very much meant to be trimmed down to each persons favorites. A kind of Remix/Digest roundup, if you will :)

I wanna hear all those remixes but current internet access limitations (+ laziness) is going to keep me from tracking them down. If you ever have recommendations I say just email them over! And what better time to start then now! ;)

Thanks for getting my back Alyssa! But I gotta say, Joel is a regular round these parts and so I take his thoughts seriously (and can even agree with him a bit on this one). And I always love hearing recommendations from TBE readers!! Anything new you been loving? Send it over!!

haha, I did catch a glimpse of Tinnie website and judging by it's design/layout/content am not surprised that he has become the bane of any sane brits existence. I haven;t actually heard anything he's done solo though so I can't judge quite yet.

When did The Hood Internet get off form? Aside from occasionally remixing artists I have never heard of I feel like they are the “Form Standard” these days.

Yoness! as usual an awesome post that is keeping me from falling asleep at work, I´d have put my 2 cents in and say Hood Internet have been skewing a bit off form for my tastes lately with alot of really R&B/vocorder heavy shit lately, but hey. it just means I have to filter a little more.

  7. Brandon @ TBE
    Brandon @ TBE says:

Fair enough. The truth is that I too filter my Hood Internet listening. I dont even download the tracks that feature artists I don't know so that pretty much makes me pre-disposed to like the HI tracks I do hear. When they nail it they definitely nail it, though!

Also, The Virgins – Rich Girls (Le Castle Vania Remix) is awesome too, but Ive had that one for sometime so I didnt mention it. I have a couple of songs I have been jammin real tough the last couple weeks that Im about to send you. Well, that is as soon as I figure out how.

Haha, I like a heated comment debate just as much as the next guy but sometimes all you need is love, or something…

Just email the mp3s over to me. BrandonZev -at- theburningear -dot- com I look forward to it!

You know, going back over this, there were a bunch of remixes in here I liked. I guess there were just also a lot i didnt. 20 songs is a lot.

BTW, The Wonderwall jam was one of my favorites you have ever posted.
