Remix Roundup /// Vol. 7 – The Beast

Holy shit. I just finished putting together this Roundup and it’s a beast! Fantastic remixes of Miike Snow, La Roux, Lykke Li, Phoenix, MSTRKRFT, Daniel Merriweather, and oh so many more. I won’t waste much time here cause you people have work to do after the jump. Oh, and regular readers will notice a few new features. I hope they make your Roundup experience just that much more buttery smooth.

Miike Snow – Animal (Fake Blood Remix) / My 4th favorite song of 2009 so far get’s my favorite remix of it, and “Animal” is no stranger to remixes! How’s that for an X-mas gift in July! This track is what I imagine Miike Snow playing live for circus animals is like, all clapping monkeys, dancing elephants, and a bear on a unicycle with a whistle. [Original track]

Daniel Merriweather – Change (Feat. Wale) (Gigamesh Remix) / My 5th favorite song of 2009 so far get’s the first remix I’ve heard and it’s like F-ing awesome. Go Gigamesh! Like it’s your Birthday! [Original track]

Awesome New Republic – Birthday (Panic Bomber’s Love Me Rough Mix) / Speaking of which… ANR get remixed and some new vocals from Panic Bomber. It doesn’t match the original but is an interesting take on things. [Original track]

La Roux – Bulletproof (iamxl remix) / Now you are telling me my 10th favorite song of 2009 so far get’s a fantastic remix!? (better than that Tepr one) Are you for real serious? What, is Lykke gonna get a killer remix next? [Original track]

Lykke Li – Little Bit (Death To The Throne RE-remix) / I shouldn’t have opened my mouth… or rather, I totally should have! Death To The Throne comes correctamundo on his second go round at remixing “Little Bit.” It’s got breakdowns crunchier than dry granola but if you can hang tough you are in for some sweet ass parts. [More Lykke]

Paul & The Patients – Blogspot (Nick Seeley Remix) / Sure the song is basically a bash on music blogs but I never cared cause I could never understand the dude. That is until Nick Seeley made him all intelligible (as well as a killer remix) and now I can finally hear what it is I am supposed to be doing here at TBE. “Tell ’em how to tip when you buy a drink, tell ’em how to trip when they try to think.” Ok, so $1 dollar per drink is standard but if you get 3 drinks it’s OK to throw ’em 2 bones, especially if they are beers and they just opened them. But if they didn’t open it at all then no need to tip. What for? For mixed drinks stick with 1$ per drink, that shit is real work. Umm, for falling when thinking just try and get those arms out there. Front teeth are pretty crucial in the quest to ever get laid again. [Original track]

MSTRKRFT – Heartbreaker (Featuring John Legend) (Laidback Luke Remix) / Laidback Luke get’s off his ass for this one and hits us with lots of bendy sounds, “ch-ch-ch” drums, some lazer sounds, and of course, good ol’ bleeps! [Original Track]

Jack Peñate – Be The One (Fly Union Remix) / The orignal is barely recognizeable as Fly Union (who?) has decided to muscle in his own rap on love over Jack’s tune. I guess it’s not so much of a remix as a, how can I say, fly union? Ok, so it’s really not that fly, just interesting. Again. [More Jack]

Peaches – Lose You (Yuksek and Brodinski Remix) / Peaches again? At least Yuksek is on this one so if you love it than praise him. If you hate it then it’s probably that dude Brodinski’s doing. [Original Track / More Yuksek]

N.A.S.A. – Strange Enough (Mr. Oizo Remix) / The overhyped N.A.S.A. project (Did you know one dude is Spike Jonze lil bro? I just learned that nugget.) get a great remix to one of their OK songs. Maybe I should revisit that album… Oh nevermind. 17 tracks? Can we get some self-editing people? [More N.A.S.A.]

Phoenix – Long Distance Call (Sebastien Tellier Remix) / One of my favorite Phoenix tracks gets the smoothed-out slow-down treatment from everybody‘s favorite weiner shaker. Not sure how new this remix is, but it’s fresh to me. Super fresh. [Original Track]

3OH!3 – Don’t Trust Me (Benny Blanco Remix ft. Kid Cudi) / 3oh!3 is all up in the under-downloaded High Speed Chase Mix and we all know Kid Cuddles. Here Benny Blanco has thrown his rappin over 3’s jock jam “Don’t Trust Me.” It’s a weird pairing and I’m not sure it works but whateveroo. [More Kid Cudi]

Don Diablo vs The Roots – The Seed 3.0 / Speaking of weird pairings… But here Don Diablo breathes new life into an already modern classic with this remix and totally kills it (good way). [More Don Diablo]

Why? – The Vowels, Pt. 2 (Amplive Remix) / Despite urgings from others I never really fell for Why’s Alopecia album. This remix and I, however, have been going steady for a bit now and it just feels right. You know what I mean, right? When you know you just know, you know?

The Hood Internet – Hold The Stillness (Major Lazer vs Dirty Projectors) / “Hold The Line” loses all the crazo sound effects and gains a set of “ooooo”-ing pipes. For when you want to play your jams at Granny’s place but don’t want to give anyone a seizure just yet. [Original of “Hold The Line”]

Cover Corner!

La Roux – Farewell To The Fairground (White Lies Cover) / La Roux uses BBC 1 to give White Lies a solid (if stripped down) cover version. Enjoy. [More La Roux]
