Remix Roundup /// Vol. 8 – Reflect & Unwind

I can’t believe it’s August already. I can’t believe TBE is almost 6 months old. I can’t believe this is the 8th roundup of remixes. I can’t believe you are still reading this. OK, now I really can’t believe it. I cant. Seriously, nothing you say can make me believe you are still reading this. It’s called belief dude, it’s personal, I don’t have to explain or justify it. I mean, yeah, I guess if I saw you reading it I would ‘believe’ but that’s not even the point. The point is that there are so many fresh remixes down there and you are still reading this garbage. Some people, man, some people.

♫ Hockey – Learn To Lose (Labrinth Remix) /Here it is. Finally. People, this is the track that turned me on to Hockey. I mean clearly Labrinth left a fingerprint on this scuzzd out gem but I knew that the band beneath it would bear some rock fruit. Mmmmm, rock fruit… [original post]

♫ The Drums – Let’s Go Surfing (Knight School Version) /And another one! This remix of “Let’s Go Surfing” was my first inkling that The Drums were not all lo-fi super-chill and boy, oh boy, am I glad they aren’t. It’s near impossible to top the original but this one just brings a different flavor that you might dig. [original post]

♫ . Miike Snow – Animal (Peter Bjorn and John Remix) / Seems like it wouldn’t be a Remix Roundup without Miike Snow up in here somewhere. Sounds good to me! Here they are with remix number 38 of “Animal.” Can we get official numbers on this being the most remixed song of the year? I aint hatin. Just sayin. And lovin. Every minute. But when we gonna get some “Cult Logic” remixes, damnit? [original post]

♫ Peter Bjorn and John -  It Don’t Move Me (Weird Tapes Remix) / PB&J get the favor returned on the best track off the lackluster Living Thing. Weird Tapes has tuned the track into a jingly, jangly, space-funk oddysey that makes my fingertips dance. Learn more about Weird Tapes here and look out for more jams tied to this dude soon.

♫ Bombay Bicycle Club – Always Like This (James Rutledge Remix) / I remember hearing this remix back in April but having my head jammed so far into the original I couldn’t tolerate anything else. Coming back to it now it is a fresh take on one of my favorite songs of the year. If the original is a bit too spastic for your more musically conservative friends then this is the perfect alternative for your next cocktail party. [original post]

♫ Holy Ghost! – I Will Come Back (Classixx Acapulco Nights Version) / If the original is what you listen to on the way to a party, then this is the jam for the way home. Mellowed out, spacey, and made for losing yourself in passing streetlights and yellow lines as you reflect on the human condition. [original post]

♫ My Awesome Mixtape – Me & The Washing Machine (Congo Rock Remix) / Nothing too crazy here, a kind of by-the-books remix treatment that if nothing else should remind you not to sleep on this track. [original post]

♫ Modernaire – Faites Vos Jeux (Alavi Radiox) / Heck yeah. The intro on this track is just so perfect. Throwing in a male vocal counterpart? Genius. [original post]

♫ One EskimO – Givin’ up (Don Diablo Remix) / Don Diablo is almost like Miike Snow with his Remix Roundup ubiquity, but how can you fault him when he works shit like this? Ho-lee. This track is so epic. Imagine that you are a few beers into a Saturday evening and you are standing in the front-car window of the subway in New York with this in your headphones. That will melt your business. I can’t find the original anywhere but it’s chances versus Don’s behemoth aren’t so good. [previous Don Diablo]

♫ Britney Spears – Radar (Bloodshy & Avant Remix) / The production portion of Miike Snow take Britney’s latest single and get all bleepy and bloopy on it, turning it into a bonafide jam. This is how you get me to lose my mind in the club.  [previous Bloodshy & Avant]

♫ Franz Ferdinand – Can’t Stop Feeling (WhoMadeWho Remix) / My favorite track off of Franz Ferdinand’s latest gets treatment by TBE veterans WhoMadeWho. It’s a little too chill and monotonous for everyday listening but then the bass-line kicks in and I’m suddenly grooving around the kitchen. I can definitely see this on the “Post-Party Unwind mix.” [previous WhoMadeWho]

♫ The Sounds – Beatbox (Hey Champ Remix) / Did I miss the Dorchester Hotel remixes? That’s what I want. In the meantime I’ll take TBE fave Hey Champ’s remix of The Sounds latest single. Another great unwinder. [previous The Sounds / Hey Champ]

♫ John Legend – Everybody Knows (RAC Mix) / “I wish you the best… I guess.” Best lyric of the day. Oh John, you are such a Heartbreaker. You also know how to pick your remixers and TBE’s favorite didn’t lose an ounce of brilliance as he mellowed down his game for this slow jam. [previous RAC / John Legend]

♫ Ben Harper – Burn One Down (iamxl remix) / Can we get more remixes of pre-blog-era jams please? I can’t tell you how delightful it is to get brought straight back to sophomore year of college, only with a fresh vibe courtesy of iamxl. Gotta love the good pop of some bongos. Just don’t ash on your new skin, brah.

♫ The Soundmen – 2 Weeks ’til Prom (Lil’ Wayne vs. Grizzly Bear) / If this is what it takes to make Grizzly Bear tolerable then I’m in! Can we get Weezy mixed over some Animal Collective too? I’d love to finally listen to that album without falling asleep. Haha, I jest (no, I really don’t), but The Soundmen have actually crafted a whole EP of Lil’ Wayne vs. Grizzley Bear’s Veckatimest and you can download it free here. Let’s hope Weezy’s forthcoming rock album Rebirth is as listenable as this.

Thanks Ryan. “Two Weeks” has actually grown on me but that's about it. And the more I read about AnCo being in bed with the main Pitchfork dude the less cred I can give their overblown review score. Whatever. To each their own.

Thanks Vai! It's always good to now that I'm not the only one that doesn't get those bands. Even my mom tried to convince me to give them another chance recently. Jeesh! I hope you stick around for more great jams!
