[MP3] The Golden Pony – “ALT-J – Hunger Of The Pine (The Golden Pony Remix)”

Sounds like… what I kinda wish the new Alt-J album sounded like. What if instead of turning into a bunch of mushy sounding softies, the band had got strung out on the NYC underground dance scene and done drugs with Kele in London. Then we might have got this jam instead. Thanks to The Golden Pony for the alternate reality!

Grab this bonus “Ms Jackson” remix they dropped last month as well. The good times are rolling!

Alt-J – “Breezeblocks” (RZA Remix)

Alt J

Alt-J are prettly gloriously weird but RZA weirds up “Breezeblocks” even more. And in ways you would not have guessed. Is that an extra xylophone track? Get into it.

i love you so, i love you so

Ok, fine. I’l give you another remix. Just beware, this one goes to a dark place. Just follow it. There is definitely a strobe light at the end of this tunnel. Best rework of Alt-J I’ve heard.

[PLAYLIST] The Best SONGS of 2012 – Part 2 (July-Dec)

TBE-Best-of-2012-Songs

Screw the Oscars! Now that the site is back up we can continue the (very late) Best of 2012 Awards!

So many great songs last year. The second 6 months of jams did more than stand up to the first. So many genres colliding in this list. Beautiful songs. Funny songs. Innovative songs. Simple songs. Dance songs. Rock songs. All songs that Read more

[COVER] Mumford and Sons – “Tessellate” (Alt-J cover)

my heart still thumps as i bleed and all your friends come sniffing

♫ Mumford and Sons – Tessellate (Alt-J cover)

I haven’t been able to get into The Mumford’s new album (the same but safer?) but I can certainly get into this Alt-J cover! Is it better than the original? Nah. Is it a fun excuse to listen to Alt-J in a new way? Yea!

[LP/LIVE] Alt-J – AN AWESOME WAVE (w/ “Fitzpleasure”) + Live @ The Echo 8/1/12

tall woman, pull the pylons down, and wrap them around the necks of all the feckless men that queue to be next

♫ Alt-J – Fitzpleasure

After falling hard for “Breezeblocks” a few weeks back it’s been pretty much non-stop Alt-J around TBE HQ. Their debut album An Awesome Wave is clocking highly regular rotation and few people escape close proximity to me without having something played for them. “Tesselate,” “Fitzpleasure” and now “Matilda” are all growing on me strong. Even the interludes are magical. Needless to say, I was excited for their show on Tuesday. Excited but Read more

[STREAM] Alt-J (∆) – “Breezeblocks”

muscle to muscle and toe to toe the fear has gripped me but here i go

  • Who: Gwil, Joe, Gus, Thom
  • What: Jagged alt-pop, like Everything Everything, Menomena, Foals
  • Where: Leeds, UK + Facebook
  • When: LP An Awesome Wave is out now.
  • Why: If you can forgive the pretentious name (the keyboard commands to get the ∆ symbol) and like your rock a bit sideways, spastic, and highly infectious then this is your jam. It damn well is mine. The song is journey through machine gun percussion bursts and yelpy vocals to the instant singalong outro. A couple other Alt-J jams are making the internet rounds these day but nothing beats “Breezeblocks.” Don’t miss the video. No surprise but things get a bit twisted.
