[PLAYLIST] The Best REMIXES of 2012 – Part 2 (July-Dec)

TBE-Best-of-2012-Remixes

Man oh man. Could we be in a better world for fun remixes of great songs? Some of the old guard has been slacking in quality lately (RAC, where you at?) but new talent is cropping up in droves. Cyril Hahn practically made his name from that Destiny’s Child remix. Noah Hyde is on the map with amazing work. Manu el Chino nabs his second spot of 2012. Too many great tracks. Get on it for the weekend and check out all the bands and remixers you may have missed through the years. And especially listen to that Years & Years remix. What a genre flip. Mmmm…..

Be sure to catch all the 2012 “BEST OF” lists!

[PLAYLIST] The Best Party Songs of 2012

TheBurningEar's-Best-Party-Songs-2012

2012 was a fantastic year for party songs. It seems that music is having more fun than ever and I couldn’t be happier to share it with you all. We’ve all had some epic parties set to some epic party playlists and tonight is the night to top them all. (Or not, really. Nothing worse than NYE pressure.) So take a trip down the Read more

[2,000th POST!] Remix Roundup RETURN – Vol. 68

Holy cow. 2,000 is a big number. And I know some of you have read/listened to all of them. Thank you guys for the endless support and for giving me a reason to listen to so much crap to find the jams. In celebration of this historic milestone I will be bringing back the Remix Roundups. Sure, a remix may still get its own post from time to time but generally they will be bundled up here as a little party playlist for the weekend or a vacation for your ears while your body slaves at work/school.

This week we have recent TBE fave Noah Hyde remixing a new discovery Wake Owl. 2012 heavy hitter Cyril Hahn funks up that new Haim joint. The Penguin Prison remix of “It’s Time” wont ever be beat but Plastic People give it a solid rework. My beloved Monarchy are finally back! It’s just this Mighty Mouse remix for now but I’m pretty damn excited for more. Atlas Genius get reworked by soon-to-be-covered Wild Cub who in turn get tropical-ized by Kisses. Then Erol Sabadosh takes us from new school Rihanna to old school R. Kelly with some golden Top 40 remixes. Freak funk genie Yalls scuffs up Rhye nicely and a Passion Pit remix by newbie Dream Logic closes us out. Enjoy!

[REMIX] Atlas Genius – “Back Seat (Goldroom Remix)”

i’ll sell you a feeling, i’ll sell you a meaning

♫ Atlas Genius – Back Seat (Goldroom Remix)

Since Australia’s Atlas Genius will be coming to Los Angeles on Debember 11th, our hometown hero Goldroom rolled out the welcome mat with this big summery remix of “Back Seat.” Here’s to hoping they meet here over some drinks and get their collaboratin’ on.

[EP/VIDEO] Atlas Genius – THROUGH THE GLASS

we got time, gonna waste it all, gonna be fine

♫ Atlas Genius – Trojans

  • Who: Keith, Michael, Darren, Steven
  • What: Indie groove pop, like Passion Pit, Foster The People, Midi Matilda
  • Where: Australia + Facebook
  • When: Debut EP Through The Glass available now.
  • Why: You’ll remember “Trojans” as one of last year’s great tracks and now we have two more gems to round out their debut EP. “Back Seat” is a slinky nighttime groover with hushed percussion and plucky guitars under buttery vocals that woo you right in. More music like this and Atlas Genius will be well on their way to big things.

Joel’s Summer/Birthday Mix 2011 [Calvin Harris, LMFAO, Empire of The Sun, Lady Gaga, and more…]

Ahhh the wonders of summer.  A time for great tunes, butterflies, unicorns, puppies, summer flings, confetti birthday cakes, cookies and all your favorite things.

Maybe most importantly, its for Getting Nurdy and Party Rock Shuffling your faces off.

This special time of year begs for a soundtrack.  So, I thought, what better day to post something as monumental and life altering as my summer mix, then on the most important day of the year.  MY BIRTHDAY!

Enjoy.

[MP3] ATLAS GENIUS penetrate the monday blues like a bunch of TROJANS in an animal that is more funky than a horse

take it off, take it in, take off all the thoughts of what we’ve been

♫ Atlas Genius – Trojans

When Google came up with Gmail way back in 2004 they had to buy the domain from a Garfield fan club email service. How awesome is that? Speaking of The Orange One, Monday’s do indeed suck. All the more reason to celebrate a jam like this to put a little pep into our heavy-lidded steps. “Trojans” delivers just enough melancholy introspection to slowly easy the system out of Sunday but enough finger-snapping funk to kick my RPMs into a Monday gear. A little guitar, some handclaps, catchy vocals, and w hole lot of hook make this a solid summer jam, right out of the box. Australia’s Atlas Genius are perhaps still in their box, being about as fresh as they get. “Trojans” is their only song to date and only hit the interwebs a few weeks ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if this one picks up some serious steam this summer.
