Although I never full fell for Bon Iver’s self-titled second album, I still love the shit out of him and his sad-sack tunes. I also love the shit out of TBE faves The 14th Minute and their illustrious history of making me dance until my ass shines with sweat. So how could these two seemingly incongruous things ever be blended together!? Very delicately, thats how. And with thread made of owl tears.
High on caffeine and the intoxicating thought of the weekend that lies ahead… I present you Dubstep Roundup Vol. 36. A continuation of our bi-weekly feature at The Burning Ear, Dubstep Roundups are a collection of the freshest melodic dubstep tracks on the planet. Ch-ch-ch-check it out yo.

When: Their Bon Iver remix album is out now for free.
Why: There are some things that you dont mess with and even though I was kinda underwhelmed by Bon Iver’s last album I would still put him in that category. So a remix EP of Bon Iver songs just sounded like a painful gimmick to me. Then I listened. Specifically, I listened to “Blossom” (a rework of “Re:Stacks”). And then I listened a bunch more. Damn beautiful stuff. The original mixed with just a hint of glitch and groove. Justin Vernon should be stoked. The remixing is delicate, not overwhelming the original material, just shining a different light on it. Surrounding it by different furniture. Changing it’s context. Very nice.
And for you haters out there who won’t like your Bon Iver altered in any way, here is a bonus track from Bon Iver.

Yesterday’s Best Covers of 2011 list sparked some suggestions from you guys and one of them was this stunning version of “Holocene” by a band I know nothing about but damn if this Daniel guy doesn’t have a voice like a lumberjack angel. And can we get a collective jaw drop for that xylophone work!? Plus props to Ross for diving in uninvited.

Boy, this one was a long time coming. Either you are all quite patient or you didn’t notice. Either way I have been busy as heck which just means that all the tracks I had compiled got whittled down to just the gems. Rock.

Its been two weeks, but like always, Joel & Scott are back to present Remix Roundup Vol. 36.
Listen party peeps, in 10 we were supposedly “ready for a good night“, but let us tell you something little bit different for 11. In 11, we are going to create that good night.  Why? Cuz this one goes to 11 and its time for some funky, dazzling, crunk, promiscuous, weird shite to go down. And, if that aint enough to motivate you. The apocalypse is approaching scary fast these days…
In 11, we forget the fly whips and go with fly chicks, and if your down… you might come to TBE to check out some wicked ass hits.
OHH YEAHZ. ENJOY BITCHES!

♫ Zero 7 – Medicine Man (Baby Monster Remix) / Here we have LA based Baby Monster giving Zero 7’s Medicine Man the treatment and hot damn we love this sweet sound. We met the chaps in Baby Monster a few months back while they were out on tour with the Klaxons; excellent live set and excellent dudes. We suggest you seek out their work, if you haven’t already!
Damn. Another great year for remixes. Whether bringing the dance heat, adding a different texture, or completely flipping a song over, we were hit with all kinds of solid sonic reworkings. No surprise to see some of TBE’s heavy hitters like RAC, Don Diablo, Bloodshy & Avant, and The Soundmen and a warm welcome to some new names that nailed their mixes to my repeat button. All of the top 6, as well as a few others, are remixes of tracks that never really caught me in their original form but now have become some of my favorite jams of the year. A whole new life was infused into them and isn’t that what a great remix is all about?
