♫ Boy
TBE alum Boy-Bit seems to have been quite busy since dropping one of the best tracks of 2009 and another epic track early last year. Later in 2010 he dropped a bunch of EPs that flew under my radar but luckily I caught ahold of his latest, the Madrigal EP which features this simmering jam. Haunted-house zombie dance party in an 8-bit can. Slow, methodical, and might possibly get under your skin. Check the rest of the Madrigal EP here which seems to be up for free download at the moment.

Welcome to seven minutes of thumping, grinding, swirling, pulsing, and blissed out heaven. My man Boy 8-Bit dropped one of 2009’s best tracks and he’s just released a new jam that while not immediately as epic as “Baltic Pine,” it packs a whole lotta punch and delivers is all sorts of satisfying ways. Throw this on during your pre-Saturday night shower and you’ll instantly have your own aqua-rave dance party! And when you are too blitzed to speak you don’t even need to worry cause there are no lyrics involved in enjoying this electric masterpiece. (No word yet on a second part.)

♫ The Hood Internet vs The 2000s – Decalogue / The hood Internet take an epic 6 minute trip through the 2000s. A must listen for anyone who has been alive for the past 10 years and enjoys good times and great memories. For realz. Crank this and bust your moves all up on memory lane.

♫ Vampire Weekend – Cousinz (Toy Selectah Mex-More Remix) / The challenge of the evening is going to have more fun than this remix. It’s as if the song itself is grinning from ear to ear. And jumping up and down.
♫ Boy 8-Bit – Baltic Pine (Run Hide Survive Remix) / Remixing an instrumental track is tricky territory. Without a well known vocal track to lean on how do you make it your own while still maintaining the original’s integrity and awesomeness? Definitely tricky, but good to know it’s not impossible.

Wow, what a year. TBE is a month shy of it’s first birthday and now I have to wrap it’s whole existence into a short list? Tough times. Well, since objectivity is a myth, I am gonna keep my Best 20.9 Songs Of 2009 So Far list as the gold standard for my pre-July opinions and instead focus on the year’s latter half here. Why let time revise my previous favorites when the same fate will never befall these tracks? After all, it’s just a calendar. Anyway, I hope this list serves as a reminder of some forgotten jams or, if you are new to TBE, introduce you a new favorite jam. Whoever you are, and however you ended up here (Hi freeloaders!), may you enjoy the shit out of your time here (and there).

Instrumental electro/trance/house/whatever is not usually my cup of tea but there is something about “Baltic Pine” that gets a pass. A welcome, even. Apparently Boy 8-Bit made his name making “bleep” style music inspired by soundtracks of old school video games (or something like that). His maturity is our gain as we get this bouncy, spacey, under-watery, funk-jam that has been grooving me through the past few weeks. As for the rest of the EP, the cover art makes quite a claim but I guess it’s technically true. If this kind of music is your jam then I recommend giving it a listen but if digging a track like this is unusual for you, then (like me) you probably wont be down with it.
