In case you missed the memo, Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” is officially taking over the world. This does mean some good news. Besides the steller Manu el Chino remix there is the version she did with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots which is all kinds of giddy fun. However, the hands down finest piece of music related to the phenomenon is the heart-stopping folk cover by the UK’s Ben Howard. He reinvents the song all over, breathing his own life into the teenage lyrics. The songs takes an eerie twist on the original, buzzing and churning under Howard’s quivering voice. Cover of the year? Yeah, probably.

Hey, I just met you
And this is crazy
I just did bath salts
Your face looks tasty.
Besides being a disturbing chuckle, it just goes to show how ubiquitous this Jepsen jam is. No context or link even needed. So it’s about time we got a flipped up version of us to ride through summer with. Things get a little eerie in Manu el Chino’s hands but at least some of the blinding polish has been buffed off the original.
