Twitter Interview with Caught A Ghost

I’ve been in love with Caught A Ghost’s “secular gospel music” since I first heard it back in 2011. Then I laid eyes & ears on their amazing live set during their LA residency and I knew they were going places. Its been a long wait  but their debut album Human Nature is finally out and the world is a better place because of it. I caught up with Jesse and Tessa yesterday on Twitter and talked about our mutual home base of LA, collaborators, and staying healthy on tour.

[PLAYLIST] The Best SONGS of 2012 – Part 1 (Jan-June)

Lets not talk about the fact this year is already half over. Thats just insane. About as insane as the quality of jams that have been pumping through TBE HQ’s speakers these past 6 months. Here is the best of the best. Did I miss any? Did you miss any?

(Thanks to Vladimir Bobritskiy for the album art.)

25. My Great Ghost – Plain Sight / A pulsating, haunting, and thoroughly beautiful journey.

24. Purity Ring – Obedear / Slightly creepy. Very ominous. Highly Read more

♫ Caught A Ghost – Time Go

My first encounter with Caught A Ghost was when they impressed me with their live show back in December so after falling hard for slow burn groover “Time Go” and high-speed soul dub “Sleeping At Night” I was stoked to catch them at their May residency at The Satellite. Not content to just show up and play the tunes, Jesse Nolan and company turned the residency into a weekly hallows eve style party they dubbed The Hereafter. Already a good sign. So when they took the stage with a DJ, 2 saxophone players, and 2 girls in stretchy ghost skins I knew we were in for a treat. Having never heard anything besides the 3 song CAG mixtape, much of the show was new material but that didn’t stop the band from nailing it perfectly and driving it right into my soul. Nolan’s voice is on the money and his band is right with him at every turn. People were even dancing. In LA. On a Monday. Awesome.

Catch them live if you are in the LA area! If you aren’t then get them to your down by supporting their Kickstarter campaign!

Upcoming shows:

5/21/12 – The Satellite, LA, CA

5/28/12 – The Satellite, LA, CA

[EP] Caught A Ghost – CAG Mixtape (w/ “Time Go”)

i gotta say its good to be home, sometimes i miss you when i’m out there alone

♫ Caught A Ghost – Time Go

Caught A Ghost caught me a few weeks back when their live show shook me from the distractions of tricked out Hyundai’s and free drinks, instantly pricking an ear and sparking a flurry of “Who is this playing?” sputtered to various standers-by. With their name noted in my iPhone I instantly looked them up the next day and was pleased to find that their recording are just as polished and fantastic as their stage show. Rock with soul. And horns. They cut the mustard in the slow lane as the gorgeous “Time Go” (above) shows so well. For those who like a little dub in their piano-and-horns-rock will also appreciate their fater higher paced jam  “Sleeping At Night.” The CAG Mixtape is out now with one more great tracks rounding out the trifecta but with this kind of taste just makes me hungry for more. Hmm, look at this stash I just found at their management’s Soundcloud.
