Remix Roundup Vol. 16 – 2.5.10

Another collection of recent remixes for your listening pleasure. Some real gems in a here and a few others that are more “interesting” than “awesome.” Read on. Rock om. And if you want more jams by any of these artists use the ‘tags’ links at the bottom of the post!

♫ Vampire Weekend – Cousinz (Toy Selectah Mex-More Remix) / The challenge of the evening is going to have more fun than this remix. It’s as if the song itself is grinning from ear to ear. And jumping up and down.

♫ Boy 8-Bit – Baltic Pine (Run Hide Survive Remix) / Remixing an instrumental track is tricky territory. Without a well known vocal track to lean on how do you make it your own while still maintaining the original’s integrity and awesomeness? Definitely tricky, but good to know it’s not impossible.

The 25 Best Songs of 2009… Since Then / July-Dec.

Here is my list of the best songs of the second half of 2009. Be sure to read the first half’s list here and treat the two posts as a tag team of epic jams.

Wow, what a year. TBE is a month shy of it’s first birthday and now I have to wrap it’s whole existence into a short list? Tough times. Well, since objectivity is a myth, I am gonna keep my Best 20.9 Songs Of 2009 So Far list as the gold standard for my pre-July opinions and instead focus on the year’s latter half here. Why let time revise my previous favorites when the same fate will never befall these tracks? After all, it’s just a calendar. Anyway, I hope this list serves as a reminder of some forgotten jams or, if you are new to TBE, introduce you a new favorite jam. Whoever you are, and however you ended up here (Hi freeloaders!), may you enjoy the shit out of your time here (and there).

CHROMEO is best enjoyed at NIGHT and BY only a NIGHTlight

ChromeoNight

come on girl, don’t make a fuss, let’s have a conversation that’s not about us

♫ Chromeo – Night By Night

I am sorry to say that no, this is not the theme song to a new disco-cop procedural on Fox, hold on for a few more seconds and you will hear Dave 1’s signature vocal croon. Although wait a bit longer and you will hear the epic guitar solo that would perfectly soundtrack a synchronized-dance drug bust. Oh well, at least it’s Chromeo we are dealing with and they have predictably delivered a solid funk-fest that although perfect for dancing, still drips with sex. Perfect. “Night By Night” is offered to us by Green label Sound as a “sneak peak” at their forthcoming album. So far so good! [Thanks to Pasta Primavera]

Oh, and check out the public service work Chromeo have been doing. Good dudes all around.

TBE Exclusive! /// DJ Bouji and the ‘Just Quit’ Mix

djbouji_logodo you enjoy what you do? if not, don’t stop, don’t say shit

♫ Trackademicks vs. Sammy Bananas – Enjoy What You Do (Bouji Mash N Slash)

Just when you thought you weren’t going to be getting an exclusive mixtape to jam to all weekend, BAM, here it is! Surprises are fun as hell, but not nearly as fun as this buttery smooth funk-fest that L.A.’s own DJ Bouji has served up for us. I have seen this guy spin a few times and he always lights it up with his flow. His Just Quit mix is no different as he mixes genres, decades, and styles into one big party anthem. If you have been listening to his Mash N Slash of Sammy Bananas remix of Trackademicks “Enjoy What You Do” then you know what’s up. If you check out the tracklist after the jump you’ll see Miike Snow rolled into Peter Gabriel and Kings Of Leon paving the way for The Outfield. I love it. Download the whole thing below and have a kick ass weekend.
