Oh boy, where do I start? First of all, if you are familiar with both bands on this track then proceed freely. For those needing the back story it goes like this…. Project Jenny, Project Jan are two dudes from Brooklyn who are named neither Jenny nor Jan. Their debut album XOXOXOXOXO (above) is filled with quirky danceable pop fun that should appeal to people who can smile. “Pins and Needles” is their latest single and sees them collaborating with Fujiya and Miyagi. (Again, nobody named Fujiya or Miyagi in this group. Just three white Brits. Kids these days.) This song is a definte departure for PJPJ as Fujia & Miyagi seem to have exerted a mellowing influence on the typically spastic laptop-rockers. (Song topics include alcoholic zoo-animals on “Zoobar” and the frustration of board-games on “Games.” Just to be clear, I highly recommend this album. Here are two of my favorite tracks from XOXOXOXOXO.
If you like “Pins and Needles” then you should definitely get “Collarbone,” the sneaker-centric funk-fest that rocked just about every hipster BBQ last summer.
I never fell in love with their full albums but the power of “Collarbone” is undeniable and I like vibe F&J have sewn into PJPJ. Definitely curious to hear new releases from all these misnamed dudes.
