Brandon’s TBE Digest 26 [8.10.2011] New Jams, Remixes, & Covers!

Brandon’s TBE Digest is a place where I gather up all the recent jams that are worth a listen (or 10) but don’t necessarily need their own post. Here you will find new tracks by known bands, remixes, covers, and even mashups if they are interesting. My favorites of the lot are in bold.

See that nifty little intro in italics up there? Yeah, it was brought to my attention that these Digests didn’t come with much in the way of explanation and even dedicated TBE readers may not really understand what the heck these are considering I haven’t explained them in about 22 volumes. Oops. Anyway, this Digest has some real jam-a-roonies so quit reading my baloney and get in there!

NEW RELEVENT JAMS

♫ The Rapture – How Deep Is Your Love / The Rapture return after waaaay too many years absent with a jam. It’s no “Whoo Alright” but it does bode well for more sweetness from these guys.

♫ Toro y Moi – Saturday Love / Toro y Moi gave us a Summer present! Thanks Chad!

♫ Teddybears – Weed In A Rizzla (feat. Trimbal) / I really don’t know what to Read more

[PLAYLIST] The Best REMIXES of 2011 – Part 1 (Jan-June)

Strap on your shufflin’ shoes and make sure to stretch ’cause this list is an unmerciful messenger delivering jams of the highest quality. Some of these remixes have been banned by certain unenlightened governments for igniting dance parties and group high-fives so share with care.

This edition is chock full of TBE Remix alums and a few newbies shaking things up. Everyone’s favorite, Passion Pit, nab two spots while newbie Star Slinger clinches two more. In a massive non-surprise, RAC takes a heavy slice of this pie with a full 5 slots. Hey, it’s not my fault the guy is a genius. Stay tuned to the number 1 spot to see which brand-newcomers got the number 1 spot and then make sure to leave your thoughts and additions in the comments.

25 – ♫ Britney Spears – Till The World Ends (DOCTOR ROSEN ROSEN Remix) / This isn’t so much “Till The World Ends” but more “After The World Ended.” The Britney comeback party starter gets a post-apocalyptic haunted castle treatment with the “oooh oooh”s providing a completely different effect..

24 – ♫ Miami Horror – Holidays (Butcher Blades Recreational Disaster Remix) / Best name for a remix.

23 – ♫ Jump Jump Dance Dance – Modern Eyes (Vindata Remix) / Why doesn’t this remix have it’s own video of Read more

NEW RELEVENT JAMS

♫ Jamaica – 1324 Jericho / New Jamaica track from their debut album I’ve yet to be inspired to listen to. Anyone heard it? This one is kinda basic but fun.

♫ Operator Please – Catapult / Australia’s Operator Please dropped a couple super-fun jams a few years back. Their latest has some spunk to it too.

♫ TV On The Radio – Caffeinated Consciousness / Well, it’s certainly no “Wolf Like Me.” New album is Read more

Brandon’s TBE Digest 21 [3.10.2011] New Jams, Remixes, Mashups & Covers!

Bing, bang, boom, it’s that time again! Strap on your toddler bibs and dive into this digest with abandon because there are some steamers cooking in this jam-stew! My top picks are in chunky-eat-it-with-a-fork boldface. Mmm mmm good!

NEW RELEVENT JAMS

♫ The Dodos – Dont Stop / New Dodo’s album, No Color, is out on Tuesday. “Don’t Stop” is definitely closer to the Dodos I love from Visiter but I’m not sold by the whole album yet. Stream it here.

♫ Project Jenny Project Jan – Nadine / PJPJ were one of the first bands TBE ever covered exactly 2 years ago (tomorrow) so it’s about damn time we got some new stuff from them! I’ve streamed the whole album and it’s Read more

Brandon’s TBE Digest 19 – 2.3.2011 [Peter Bjorn and John, Cold War Kids, Passion Pit, Lykke Li, Joy Formidable, Adele, …]

Careful when you lift the lid on this pot o’ gold. A lot of steamy hot jams ready to jump out and burn you if aren’t careful.

NEW RELEVENT JAMS

♫ Peter Bjorn & John – Breaker Breaker / PBnJ are back and wielding way more buzzsaw like-ability than on their last sleeping pill! Wooo! Second taste “Second Chance” is also a jam! Gimmie Some is out 3/29.

♫ The Forms – Fire To The Ground [ft. Matt Berninger] / A little more Read more

MAXIMUM BALLOON strikes like a rump quaking and shoulder shaking TIGER

we’re so hung up, like tiny pictures

♫ Maximum Balloon – Tiger (Feat. Aku)

When I first heard this song over a month ago it was only a stream so I had no mp3 but already in that moment I grabbed the album art and sat it on my desktop as a reminder to not forget about tracking it down. Well, vacation over and detective work done, I present the first taste of Maximum Balloon, the side project of TV On The Radio’s resident white dude producer Dave Sitek. “Tiger” clocks in at barely 2 minutes but so far that’s just maximizing it’s repeatability and making me hungry for more! Gotta love that grinding synth, funk-tastic beat, and super guitar riffage! I don’t always vibe 100% with TVOTR but something tells me that this project will be right up my alley. Maximum Balloon’s full album with all of it’s guest vocalists came out yesterday and I’m hoping to get my hands on a copy (ahem!) so I can get a little self-fulfilling prophecy thing going on over here…

TBE Digest 7 – 3.27.10 [MGMT, Foals, Born Ruffians, LCD Soundsystem, The Very Best, …]

If this is your first time to the Burning Ear then welcome to The TBE Digest, a place where I take a break from my usual gushing enthusiasm and cover some recent tracks that I am not so in love with but are still interesting/relevant/whatever. I’ve also started throwing covers in as well because, well, because I love covers. Dive in!

♫ MGMT – Flash Delirium / The first single from MGMT’s follow-up, Congratulations, which is streaming for free at their website. I haven’t heard it yet because frankly, “Flash Delirium” doesn’t really make me want to. It’s not that it’s even “not as good as “Kids”/”Time To Pretend”/”Electric Feel,” it’s just not very listenable.

♫ Born Ruffians – Sole Brother / The first taste from Born Read more
