[PREMIERE-MP3] Da French Connexion – “Hold On We’re Going Home” (Drake Cover)

[soundcloud id=’137037988′]

Nobody does sex better than Drake and nobody does sexy like The French, so its a natural fit for our friends Da French Connexion to cover the best love song of 2013. Things get a bit darker and haunting, with more grit in the vocals and not much else left resembling the original song. Which is just how we like our covers.

Drake - Hold On, We're Going Home (Beat Mass Tropic Edit)

Hot damn. Any excuse to listen to the new Drake is a good one. This new Beat Mass remix is a great one. The setting is taken back a few hours, out from the steam of the bedroom and into the dusk hours. The last rays of sun cutting across the hood of your car you cruise away from the city for a weekend. Oh, the dreams of a hump day.

If you haven’t heard the new Drake jam then listen close. If you thought you didn’t need to hear the new Drake jam then listen closer. Drake has a polarizing multiple personality disorder going on in his music but don’t let the hype-trash like “Started At The Bottom” distract you from the tortured Canadian soul that is capable of beautiful music like these. Take Care was full of heart on sleeve moments like this that endeared me to Drizzy. For a minute I was worried he had turned his back on his tender side. Thank goodness he didn’t. 2013 just got one of its top songs.

[PLAYLIST] The Best COVER SONGS of 2012

TBE-Best-of-2012-Covers

Cover songs are still my favorite way for emerging bands to put their own sound on a hit song and get easy attention. However 2012 was for some reason a slow year for cover songs. Luckily a handful of bands did them well and left us with flipped and twisted takes on old classics and net hits alike. Here are my 10 favorites (#1 at the bottom). What did I miss? Read more

[COVER] Gemini – “Crew Love” (Drake ft The Weeknd Cover)

there’s a room full of love

♫ Gemini – Crew Love (Drake ft The Weeknd Cover)

Apparently Gemini is a big dubstep producer in the UK but thank goodness he left that at the door while beautifully covering “Crew Love.” Also props for changing up the lyrics so us white people can comfortably sing along.

[LIVE] The Weeknd @ Hollywood Forever Cemetery – May 5th

♫ The Weeknd – Montreal

When I think of Cinco de Mayo in Los Angeles I don’t think of cemeteries but that’s where I ended up last night. And it was perfect. The day of sun and beer had given way to a sharp black sky and looming supermoon. People lounging, snacking, and boozing just feet from the eternally resting. Then The Weeknd took the stage and brought a ruckus that immediately woke us all. His epic voice lived up to the records and he had energy for days. Whereas Edward Sharpe left me checking my watch, last night my mind didn’t wander from the stage for a second. Then The Weekend lays down his “oooohs” from Drake’s “Crew Love” and got into his lines, much to everyone’s delight. Then Read more
