Hey Internet! Are you listening? Amazing sounds are being created here!
I had the privilege of catching DWNTWN play on Saturday night and damn if they didn’t redefine what two people, one guitar, and a backing track can do to a stage. (Their enthusiasm and stage presence easily out-performed M83 and their supposed epicness.) Plus, DWNTWN’s songs beyond the 2 we alreadyknow are all gold. But until we can get our hands on recorded versions of those jams they are keeping us satisfied with other treats. This cover of Angus & Julia Stone’s “Big Jet Plane” is a great part of their set and is beautifully rendered here. (plus has a video)
Then this new remix of Jessie and the Toy boys continues DWNTWN’s tradition of bonkers reworking of pop jams. Let the dance party begin. 2012, you’ve been warned.

Songs are pretty amazing things. It’s magical that such a small thing can be so powerful. In the blink of an eye a song can make you smile, dance, cry, think, laugh, etc. These are the ones that did all those things for me the second half of 2011. Read more

Ahem! Excuse me. If you thought you were taking a break because last weekend was New Years Eve then forget it. This is the first weekend of 2012 and it’s time to kick things off right. Below is a list of the best remixes of the past 6 months and they are quite restless so please let them out this weekend. Walks and feeding are optional.
Any glaring errors in judgement? Any additions you would make? Any good pizza in L.A.?
17. ♫ M83 – Midnight City (Alcala Remix) / One of the top remixed songs of the year had stiff competition but Alcala’s slow build explodes the original into the stratospheric massiveness that it always hinted at.
8. ♫ Citizens! – True Romance (Gigamesh Remix) / From the moment Gigamesh drops that beat it’s all over. The windows are down and I’m practically climbing out the window to get the whipping wind on my face. Thank goodness for seat belts.
1. ♫ The Notorious B.I.G – Everyday Struggle (Frogs in Socks BiG Bootleg) / Just as you get your head around the odd and minimal beat you realize that Biggie sounds clearly than ever and everything fits in such an awkwardly perfect way you wonder how such a thing could exist. Then you understand that the world is full of all sorts of miracles that nobody can explain.

So apparently T-Pain teamed up with Wiz Khalifa and Lily Allen on a boring song about how T-Pain forgot to sex his girlfriend so she eventually texted him a reminder. Then Khalifa gets romantic with a verse about how he didn’t feel like banging any of the other girls in the club so he came home to you. Awww….
If all that just put you to sleep then thank goodness Los Angeles’s dance magiciansDWNTWNÂ reworked the whole thing into a jam that actually might keep you up until 5 o’clock. The Mike Tyson sample they worked into the intro is appropriate as this remix is basically Tyson’s the original. Baby eating aside, DWNTWN are on a serious roll and I have no doubt that this is the beginning of a long 2012 of great tracks.

Its Thanksgiving and time to break away from your ever so important Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Stumble-upon, Myspace (insert joke), Spotify and all things in the cyber-world. Finally, take a minute and give thanks to the important things in your life like the Family, Happiness, Food and of course The Burning Ear. You might be thinking “gee Joel, you kinda just contradicted yourself there with the whole cyber thing”. Well,… I think you’re a contradiction.
For more jams or by any of these artists use the ‘tags’ links at the bottom of the post! Follow @JoelAlbers on Twitter for updates on remixes, dubstep and all things Nurdy.
On the heels of Kopps, Cults, Handsome Furs, and others, the boy/girl duo dance party continues with LA’s DWNTWN and their eyes-closed, hands-up brand of poppy dance voodoo. “Transition” is about as much fun as you can have while telling off your ex for being so damn optimistic about your failed relationship. Add this track to your Labor Day BBQ playlist and you won’t even remember that relationship in the morning!
Catch their remix of OneRepublic in Joel’s last Remix Roundup and grab another track “Hungry Hearts” at their Facebook which damn now that I am listening to it I am really digging. Brilliant. If you are in LA catch them tonight at AKBAR!
