NEW RELEVENT JAMS

♫ Frank Ocean – Dreamkilla / New (or maybe old) Frank Ocean produced by the Midi Mafia who also did one of the best songs of the year so far, “Swim Good.” Butter.

♫ Boots Electric – Boots Electric Theme / The first single from Eagles Of Death Metal’s frontman Jesse “Boots Electric” Hughes. Hmm… I wanna love it but it’s just no EODM track.

♫ Wale – Lacefrontin’ / Remember when this guy was supposed to be the big thing? Just not feeling it. So much going on here but kinda nothing going on.

[EP] BRONZE are like HORSES tearing through the DEEP forrest and may FREEZE you in your tracks

♫ BRONZE – Horses

BRONZE are from Brooklyn and have just dropped the most exciting EP I have heard in a veeery long time. I’m so pumped on this release that I’m putting up two tracks here in an effort to shine a broader light on their talents and make sure that all of you grab this free EP here. The great part? These two are the first two tracks on the EP and they aren’t even some kind of peak, the other 3 are equally brilliant, sometimes even more so!

The BRONZE EP kicks off with “Horses” and it’s bullet train percussion before giving way to the softly lilting intro of “Deep Freeze.” This jams eventually kicks into a massive swinging bounce that gets me rocking and singing along every time, even the first. Things mellow out beautifully for the handclaps and Isaac Brock-ian “Sunny Day” before igniting again on the brilliant “Sara Lisa.” It’s their most popular song and while I haven’t been able to pick a favorite, it’s no surprise others have picked this one. It’s large. It’s delicate. It’s passionate. It’s catchy. Basically, it’s BRONZE. Album closer “Count To Two” channels a bit of Jesse Hughes (Eagles Of Death Metal) as it shreds it’s way through bongo drums and ghostly “oooohs.” Damn, there is so much brilliance going on in these songs that all these descriptions feel flat. Just get the damn EP. It may be free but I’d pay 10 bucks, easy, for unfettered access to these jams.

Let’s just hope these guys are hard at work on more stuff! You lucky NYC bastards can catch ’em live in Brooklyn on Jan 14th and in Manhattan on the 30th. Report back!

[JBI!] TBE Presents: Fever For The Flavor – A Mix for L.A.

fever Flavor cover

Los Angeles, the city of a million legends and a million disappointed tourists. Its too big to take in by foot and too confusing and traffic-packed to really see by car. It really isn’t a city at all, but more of a collection of cities that all happen to touch each other and give the illusion of being unified. However, while the city/ies may be sprawling and disjointed, they share a role as muse for great music. As I have simmered here this past two weeks I have been compiling my list of great L.A. songs. Some tribute, some complaint, but all about L.A. The mix’s title comes from Bran Van 3000’s “Drinking in L.A.” whose lyrics seemed strikingly poignant during this 26th year of my life. Oh, and it also reminds me of all the good eatin’ I miss when I’m away from L.A. Mmmmm, tacos…..

What is your favorite L.A. song/story/riot/natural disaster/celebrity sighting?

Eagles Of Death Metal – Wannabe in L.A.

California natives, rock-gods, perpetually mustachioed, and hosts of a thrashing good live show, Eagles of Death Metal are ending their European tour right here in Warsaw (Klub proxima on Saturday)! I am pretty stoked on this and will be buying my tickets just as soon as I stop staring at the above cover art….. Ummm, ok, what was I saying? Yeah, if you don’t know Eagles Of Death Metal then you should know they sound like neither The Eagles or death-metal. On drums in Josh Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age and taking the helm is his Jesse Hughes and his awesome mustache. Above is the oft-appropriate and always rockin’ track of their latest album Heart On and below is the track that got me hooked way back in the Christmas of ’05.
