[VIDEO] Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros – “Child”

This beautiful video was made by Sharpe fans in Poland and showcases some stunning footage of the city where this website started. Awesome.

LETS DO A SUMMER MIXTAPE with [RAC, Adventure Club, Goldroom, Viceroy, DWNTWN, Ghost Beach, Cry Wolf and Lights & Music]

When I first started the blog feature on Lights & Music last month, this mixtape was the first idea that I put into action.  Wikipedia, in-short describes mixtapes as usually reflecting the musical tastes of its compiler, a conceptual mix of songs linked by a theme or mood tailored to the tape’s intended recipient.  Yeah sure, we’ve all made mixtapes before.  But, what happens when you get a bunch of artists and bloggers to make a mixtape with the intended recipient being you?  Thats what I wanted to find out.  The concept is simple, yet I hadn’t really seen it anywhere else.

Everyone was given two selections.  They could either choose two tracks defining their summer so far in 2012 or one new and one all-time summer favorite.  Sounds simple enough in theory, but narrowing down your favorite jams to fit that criteria was tough.  That said, this was a fun project and I intend on making this a annual event.

Without further ado, please enjoy and share with others. Read more

Remix Party Playlist Vol. 66 – 6.20.2012 [Meiko, Bibio, DWNTWN, Tina Turner, and more…]

As some of you know I’ve been working on several other projects.  Mainly, Lights & Music Entertainment; a Music Blog / Concert & Event Production Series.   Does this mean I’m done with TBE?  Nope, but most of my time will be spent building content for my own blog.  Don’t worry, my Remix & Dubstep Roundups are alive and well over there.  In fact, they are about to be better than ever.

A continuation of my feature at The Burning Ear, Remix Roundups are a collection of the freshest remixes on the planet.  You can search high and low, in this world or another, but you won’t find a remix series this dope in this galaxy or the next –  For we are from only space.

Passion Pit – Take A Walk (Peking Duk Remix) / When it drops,… oohhh soo good.  Its head bobbing, its intoxicating and if you let it- completely mind numbing.  Pimp it.

David Guetta – Titanium (Mistereric Mix) / Imagine, a world of lightly crashing waves, sunny weather and gorgeous women rolling skating to the rhythm.  Thats what this song means to me.  Its got mad vibes.  Jump in.

[LIVE] Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes @ The Greek – May 4th

Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroes – Janglin (RAC Mix)

If you have ever been to The Greek then you know what an awesome venue it is for live music. Its the small club equivalent of it’s famed neighbor The Hollywood Bowl. And its beautiful. Coincidentally so are all 11 members of The Magnetic Zeroes. But somehow beauty wasn’t enough to sell me on their stage show. The music sounded great. Lush and expansive and “Janglin,” but something in the chemistry was lost. The spark between Alexander and Jade on classics like “Home” is the thing that sold the world on their brand of hippie rock and last night it felt, well, gone. (Along with Alexander’s ability to remember the lyrics to new single “That’s What’s Up”) Sure they broke up years ago but, Alexander, put on a stage face. Do it for the kids. Do it for the other 10 members of your band killing it on their instruments. Do it for me.

[LP] Alexander – ALEXANDER (w/ “Truth” feat The RZA & “A Million Years”)

i’ve grown up some, different kind of fighter, and when the darkness come let it inside you

♫ Alexander – TRUTH Feat. The RZA

From the normal sized band of electro poppers Ima Robot, to the oversized collective of Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroes, frontman Alex Ebert did the only thing left and released a solo album this year. Yeah, yeah, many of you know about it already but if you are late to it like I was then I recommend you give it a spin or two. Main single “Truth” was featured on this season’s premier of Breaking Bad (yes!) and also got itself a remix with The RZA on it (above).

♫ Alexander – A Million Years

“A Million Years” is another choice example of the soulful folk that makes this album a great choice for the whole family. The Magnetic Zeroes acted as backing band on the album and there are plans for similar projects for band members Jade Castrinos and Christian Letts before we get a second Edward Sharpe album. At least the stuff in the meantime is sounding plenty nice.

Joel & Scott’s Top 50 Remixes of 2010

Welcome back party peeps.  We, Joel & Scott are proud to bring you our Top 50 Remixes of 2010.

Totally wish we could think of some rad shite to introduce this wicked cool Top 50 list with, but we’re both having some serious writers block here.  Typically in this situation we would just drink or get some sort of major caffeine stimulation (often both).  Not gonna lie, we enjoyed the hell out of our super strong energy/alcoholic beverages, but thanks to Central Washington University students the shite is outlawed.  Please, we’d love to hear your side of the story.   Anyway,… by now if you are a TBE follower you know that we are two dudes (Joel & Scott) originally from Seattle that just love to get Nurdy’ and melt our faces on that dirty d-floor.   And yeah, remixes to us are what platinum haired Bunnies are to Hugh Hefner.

Lastly, you might think its a little late for a “Best of List”, but that was a deliberate move on our part.  We at TBE don’t believe in a  “Best of List” before the New Year and we really wanted to take our time.  2010 was an incredible year for DJs and remix artists around the world.  Our top two remixes this year may very well be two of our top remixes of all time.  Its amazing to see the support DJs are now getting around the globe.  Don’t forget that they’re the ones that keep us dancing.

Keep dancing all, and if any of the following songs change your life YOU’RE WELCOME.  (Don’t forget to check out our Top 10 Dubstep Remixes of 2010)

The Best Remixes of 2010… Since Then (July-Dec.)

Damn. Another great year for remixes. Whether bringing the dance heat, adding a different texture, or completely flipping a song over, we were hit with all kinds of solid sonic reworkings. No surprise to see some of TBE’s heavy hitters like RAC, Don Diablo, Bloodshy & Avant, and The Soundmen and a warm welcome to some new names that nailed their mixes to my repeat button. All of the top 6, as well as a few others, are remixes of tracks that never really caught me in their original form but now have become some of my favorite jams of the year. A whole new life was infused into them and isn’t that what a great remix is all about?

15. ♫ Sleigh Bells – AB Machines (French Horn Rebellion Remix)

14. ♫ Johnny Polygon ft Kid Cudi – Riot Song (The Soundmen Remix) / It’s official. Kid Cudi should only Read more
