Remix Roundup Vol. 70 – Approx Feb 2013

100-bolt-paddedYup, another “better late than never” roundup coming at you straight from arctic February. But turn that frown upside down because it is Friday and you have the tunes to do the night justice. With warmer weather comes looser limbs. Move them.

[PLAYLIST] The Best REMIXES of 2012 – Part 2 (July-Dec)

Man oh man. Could we be in a better world for fun remixes of great songs? Some of the old guard has been slacking in quality lately (RAC, where you at?) but new talent is cropping up in droves. Cyril Hahn practically made his name from that Destiny’s Child remix. Noah Hyde is on the map with amazing work. Manu el Chino nabs his second spot of 2012. Too many great tracks. Get on it for the weekend and check out all the bands and remixers you may have missed through the years. And especially listen to that Years & Years remix. What a genre flip. Mmmm…..

Be sure to catch all the 2012 “BEST OF” lists!

[REMIX] Kodaline – “All I Want (Everything Everything Remix)”

cause you brought out the best of me, a part of me I’d never seen, you took my soul wiped it clean, our love was made for movie screens

♫ Kodaline – All I Want (Everything Everything Remix)

Everything Everything still got the glitch! It’s always a pleasure to hear them rewire a jams to herk and jerk to their unique beats. Here they have added a whole slew of sideways noises to the mellow and straightforward original. But even with the added layers its still a restrained affair, something I always appreciate in a remix.

[STREAM] Everything Everything – “Cough Cough”

i’m coming alive i’m happening now

  • Who: Jonathan, Jeremy, Alex, Mike
  • What: Indie spazz dance, like Alt-J, Delphic,
  • Where: Manchester + Facebook
  • When: Buy their new album Arc in January.
  • Why: You know how much I love Everything Everything so forgive me for being a bit disappointed by this new single at first. Then I kept listening. Now I don’t know if I just love it because I desperately need some new Everything Everything or if it is because its actually awesome. Either was I am listening to it a lot these days and so should you.

[EXCLUSIVE] Everything Everything – “Airstrike On Your Forehead” (MY KZ UR BF demo)

eyes on the roof of my mouth, i discover that it’s gonna be hard

So one of my favorite albums of 2010 was just shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and we have an exclusive Everything Everything jam to celebrate with! “Airstrike on Your Forehead” is an early demo of “MY KZ UR BF” and if you know the song (you should) then you will recognize it immediately. You will also hear that lots changed before the final version. “Airstrike” creeps and lurks in ways that “MY KZ” preferred to spazz and lurch. But I really like this laid back version. Something summery about it. It’s always interesting to hear the evolution of a song but rarely this rewarding. Jon from the band had this to say about the process:

This is a demo that eventually became MY KZ UR BF. We decided AOYF was too straight and ploddy in this format and wanted to shake it up a bit by changing the feel of the verses. Lyrically the idea is the same, only in the finished version I had to strip it down to the core of the narrative to fit. An early version of MY KZ actually started with a single finger click and then all of us shouting any note, which was held for a few seconds (a really horrible chord) then another click, and onto the verse – ‘flashbacks to the time…’. Our producer David Kosten did away with this which I thought was insane. But it wasn’t insane.

Joel & Scott’s Top 50 Remixes of 2010

Welcome back party peeps.  We, Joel & Scott are proud to bring you our Top 50 Remixes of 2010.

Totally wish we could think of some rad shite to introduce this wicked cool Top 50 list with, but we’re both having some serious writers block here.  Typically in this situation we would just drink or get some sort of major caffeine stimulation (often both).  Not gonna lie, we enjoyed the hell out of our super strong energy/alcoholic beverages, but thanks to Central Washington University students the shite is outlawed.  Please, we’d love to hear your side of the story.   Anyway,… by now if you are a TBE follower you know that we are two dudes (Joel & Scott) originally from Seattle that just love to get Nurdy’ and melt our faces on that dirty d-floor.   And yeah, remixes to us are what platinum haired Bunnies are to Hugh Hefner.

Lastly, you might think its a little late for a “Best of List”, but that was a deliberate move on our part.  We at TBE don’t believe in a  “Best of List” before the New Year and we really wanted to take our time.  2010 was an incredible year for DJs and remix artists around the world.  Our top two remixes this year may very well be two of our top remixes of all time.  Its amazing to see the support DJs are now getting around the globe.  Don’t forget that they’re the ones that keep us dancing.

Keep dancing all, and if any of the following songs change your life YOU’RE WELCOME.  (Don’t forget to check out our Top 10 Dubstep Remixes of 2010)
