This is just a teaser to get you all as excited as I am. To celebrate the 5th birthday of The Burning Ear I’m putting together an album of exclusive remixes of covers of the best TBE jams of the past 5 years. Contributing artists like Pr0files, Noah Hyde, Lincoln Jesser, Y Luv, Wiley Webb, Memoryy, Germany Germany, and more will be remixing or covering songs by Miike Snow, Twin Shadow, Scavenger Hunt, Yeasayer, Phosphorescent, Rhye, Frank Ocean, and more.

The list goes one and makes my heart skip a beat every time I read it. And dont even get me started on heart skips when I LISTEN to these jams. Holy cow. You guys are in for a treat.

AND THEN, there is the epic album artwork above created by the amazing Meghan Ellie Smith. I’m basically a mess of excitement over here.

Spaniards and longtime TBE faves Buffetlibre just released a new covers EP with something for everyone in the indie family! First off, all sale proceeds go to the awesome relief organization Oxfam International, so you know its a legit project. Secondly, they cover 2013 favorites like CHVRCHES and Lorde, as well as older classics like Neutral Milk Hotel and Jesus & Mary Chain. Even Dragonette lends some help on a track! It’s a beautiful celebration of song with some amazing talents at work. Dive in and enjoy! And don’t forget to check out Buffetlibre’s other work. Like this killer “Blurred Lines” remix. Hot damn.  They slay like few others.

The beautifully haunting and sometimes gritty “Come Down” from Perth’s Crooked Colours has been on regular rotation around TBE HQ so its with great pleasure that I get to debut this great remix from USA’s PRFFTT & Svyable with Canada’s Ianborg. This jams a truly international affair and runs through a handful of textures and sounds as it takes us on an aural journey through the beauties of the dark side.

I’m proud to present the next residency show of one of my favorite LA bands, DWNTWN. The Satellite is the very first venue I ever saw them live over 2 years ago and now they are hosting their own residency there. Gotta love when life comes full circle! Also gotta love when TBE faves Carousel and Scavenger Hunt are on the bill as well. I’ll be DJing between sets so come out for a night of awesome music and good times!

The BEST PARTY SONGS of 2013

Oh boy! The “Best Of” lists begin and as always I’m kicking off mine with the Best Party Songs of the year. Anyone still in need of some last minute NYE playlist inspiration will find plenty within! Songs about drinking, dancing, loving, living, boys, girls, and everything that happens on a dirty night out with not enough clothes on.

As usual I’ve broken the list into 3 parts. One for each escalating phase of a proper dance party. Gotta ease the guests into full arm flailing… Enjoy! ANd Happy New Year!

[PREMIERE] Germany Germany – “On Your Own” + “1978”

I can’t think of a better way to ring in the new year then with new Germany Germany! The dancey, spacey, synthy, and magical sounds of Vancouver’s Drew Harris have been longtime favorites of mine so it’s an honor to premiere “On Your Own.” This jam opens Germany Germany’s new album Reconnect which comes out tomorrow. “On Your Own” is a gorgeous belnd of elastic throwback synthesizers and grinding guitar licks that whip up a groove perfect for partying, driving, dancing, or just reflecting on that last year. However you spend New Year’s Eve, spend it with some Germany Germany.

BONUS: I just got word I can include the dance party monster “1978” here too. For part of the night after the ball drop when everyone is 3 sheets and ready to get weird! Get weird!
