[LP] Drunksouls – REVOLUTION (w/ “Human Race”)

i got to find my place

♫ Drunksouls – Human Race

  • Who: 10 French dudes.
  • What: Tropi-ska reggae, like Kisses, Tanlines, Sean Bones
  • Where: Marseille, France + Facebook
  • When: LP Revolution is out now.
  • Why: Summertime always dregs up weird cravings. Beverages served in coconuts. Fruit salad in your wine. You know. Sometimes you just want to kick back with an album of ska-tinged reggae vibes sung in either English or French or even Polish (“Studium w Bieli”), amiright? Luckily Drunksouls are here to fill that void in your life. Don’t make me talk about it. Just grab the nearest ottoman, kick your feet up, and drift along.

[VIDEO] Make The Girl Dance – “Tchiki Tchiki Tchiki”

Remember “Baby Baby Baby”? This french crew sure know how to make good videos on the streets of Paris. This one has less nudity but is somehow equally rad. Best girlfriend ever!

[VIDEO] Sébastien Tellier – “Cochon Ville” (NSFW!)

In this new Sebastian Tellier video nothing really happens. Or everything really happens. One things is certain, though. Mad people are naked. And it’s a perfect excuse to revisit this Tellier video classic.

[MP3] Browska – “Network”

♫ Browska – Network

“Cut up disco funk” from france makes perfect Saturday music for getting loose and bendy on the streets of your city. Put in in your car, crank it at the stop lights, delicately avoid crosswalk dance party. Crisp horns and an unrelenting beat keep my energy up in this sweat-soaked Barcelona heat.

[LP] Yuksek – LIVING ON THE EDGE OF TIME (w/ “Off The Wall” & “On A Train”)

oh christmas lights, cruising like a pimp

♫ Yuksek – Off The Wall

It’s been over 2 years since I posted an original track from Yuksek but the French producer/performer has not been lazy. Many probably know his remixes more than his original stuff and he has been busy with tons of those. Perhaps that’s how his recent album almost flew under my radar. Why aren’t more blogs talking about these jams? Not fair to keep Yuksek to yourselves, France! The whole album is solid electro indie but I’m torn on my favorite track. “Off The Wall” gets a bit soulful with some acoustic guitar and an undulating bass line that keeps things bouncy while “On A Train” kicks things a little faster with a propulsive dance vibe that is pretty damn catchy. “On A Train” also takes itself literally in this odd video that features a sleeping Yuksek, a hot girl he totally misses out on talking to, and some other craziness happening in the background. [MP3] Showgirls – “Foolin’ Around”

words can kill but i’ll take the shot ok

♫ Showgirls – Foolin’ Around

Showgirls are a Parisian pop duo who mix some funk and some disco into their promiscuous grooves and not surprisingly it works great. Just the kind of track to slowly ease my tired body back into the week. Their debut EP Mini came out last year but I’m a little late to this party. Somehow it seems a lot of others are too. Only 6,400 listens on Last.fm and not that much press. Silliness.

[LP] THE SHOES have apparently not been WASTIN’ any TIME

you know the hounds won’t wait for no one, but i, i waited my life for you

♫ The Shoes – Wastin’ Time The Shoes finally released an album!! These guys have been showing on remix radars for years now, finally releasing their own “People Movin” with Primary 1 back in 2009. Luckily the patient wait for these Frenchmen to get their act together (and recruit a host of fantastic guests like Esser and CocknBullKid) has been totally worth it. Crack My Bones is 10 songs of solid booty shaking gold, providing enough variety to get everyone grooving at some point or another. Nothing sounds half-assed and the album feels like it’s been crafted with a passion for moving people. But it’s not just limbs these guys move, they can get tender too. “Wastin’ Time” is a great example of the delicate touch these dudes have. Propulsive yet airy. It’s filled with energy but not overwhelming. It’s gorgeous. But just as you’ve been lulled into it’s hypnotic trance, The Shoes follow it up with the aptly titled pump-up “Time To Dance.” I mean let’s not forget what Fridays are all about people!

I’m not going to get into the album too much cause you can stream the whole thing here and discover your own favorite track. I will say that you should definitely make it through the whole album because closer and total sonic adventure “Investigator” does all 9 minutes of itself total justice.

BONUS: ♫ The Shoes – New York ft Boy Crisis (non-album track)

Here is a non-album single they let loose last year with the guys from Boy Crisis. Listen close and you’ll remember that yes, that’s the same band that features one half of Das Racist. I feel like this track needs a summer evening and a massive D-battery-powered boombox to do it right!
