Florrie is not just another pretty face taped onto some pop hooks and labeled the ‘next big thing.’ This Bristol, UK, native is a bonafide drummer, having laid down the beat for Girls Aloud’s “The Promise” and Alesha Dixon’s “The Boy Does Nothing,” among other jams. 2010 has seen her team up with remix master Fred Falke as producer. Together they are dropping slick electro-pop gems on the regular. A handful of originals and remixes have been bouncing around the web for months now, garnering all kinds of label interest. However, Florrie is adamant about staying unsigned and instead is releasing all her tunes for free on her website. Props for that! “Call Of The Wild” kicks off her debut EP Introduction (also free) and instantly envelops you in a whirlwind of beats, guitars, and hormonally charged lyrics that are sure to get your ass moving. For an artist so stubbornly independent, it’s odd that the only complaint I have with the EP is that it is perhaps too polished. It’s not everyday that such radio-friendliness comes from an artist with no label affiliation, whatsoever. I guess, it’s also not everyday that you get such razor sharp hooks for free! Cheers to Falke and Florrie! I look forward to continuing a beautiful relationship between you, my ears, and my feet!

In true summer fashion this 3rd installment is coming a week later than promised but it’s all good cause you been chilling so hard that nobody noticed. Well get out of the pool, dry your hands, and get downloading cause the sun will be setting soon and you’ll want this sun-mellowed summer mix to close out your day. Throw your arm around your summer fling, settle into a chilled beverage, and let the sunset burn into your retinas. Don’t forget volumes 1 & 2!
In my never ending quest to make these roundups leaner and meaner this post was supposed to be onl 8 songs deep. Then I started putting everything together and it was one “Oh, shit! What about….” after another. Anyway, here is another remix beast for your weekend pleasure. Some real jamaroonies in this batch so get pumped!
I just got home from seeing Miike Snow for the 3rd time. As my mind recovers from their fantastic live show I figure we should go over the facts…
• Miike Snow is a band, not a man. They are made up of American Andrew Wyatt and Swedish producers/multi-instrumentalists Christian Karlsson & Pontus Winnberg (Bloodshy & Avant).

Big moves are being made over at TBE HQ and one of them is this, The Slow Burn Summer mix, our first DJ mix by local favorite “DJ be” who was kind enough to blend up a fresh-to-death 60 minutes of straight fire. Put in on your iPod, cell phone, CDR, or whatever and then slip on your shimmy-shoes.
The mix is a single file because this thing is too fresh to be skipping tracks. I have, however, embedded a timecoded track-list in the lyrics section of the ID3 tag so you can at least know where you are at (or jump to your favorite part, if necessary). Let me know what you think of this method.

It took them 3 albums but The Gossip finally got some attention with 2006’s “Standing In The Way Of Control” (below). We all had a few fun listens but they ever grew on me. Now their 4th album, Music For Men, is on the way and the new single “Heavy Cross” is making waves across the blogosphere. I listened to it once. Meh. I moved on. Then I got the Fred Falke remix.* Mah! After letting that rock me for a few days I went back to the original and finally saw what people have been spazzing about. Anyway, don’t know what took me so long. We all slip sometimes. If you are new to The Gossip ten you are going to want to grab the awesome pro-gay-marriage rally song “Standing In The Way Of Control.”
