[INTERVIEW + VICEROY ROUNDUP] Its Summer Time with Viceroy

The other night I was up as late as usual, when it came to me.  The thought, “where is the sun in this cloudy city”.  The city I’m referring to is Seattle, a city blessed with more than its share of rain.  It was at this moment I feverishly signed onto Soundcloud to tried to fill the that sunny void in my life.  Enter Viceroy.

Joel: Being from the Seattle area we don’t get a whole lot of sun, so most of the time we have to live vicariously through other people or in my case, music. You seem to have a unique style of production that fits this picturesque image of mine. An image of beaches, pools, fruity drinks, good vibes and most importantly…. loads of women. I know you don’t live in Vegas, so what inspires this style of music for you?

Viceroy: I think my best experiences through-out life always happened in the summer. The summer is something everyone looks forward to and growing up I couldn’t get enough of it. I also find my style of music aka “summer music” to be a style that can be played in all different kinds of settings with all kinds of people. Its multi-functional in that sense, plus who doesn’t love a feel good track? I wasn’t always into feel good music, but when I first explored edm, nu-disco was introduced to me immediately and I fell in love with it.

Joel: Viceroy is an interesting moniker, its more than a dj name, its a ruler of sorts. Can you tell us a little about what Viceroy means to you and your music? Side note: Did you know that Christopher Columbus desperately wanted to be the Viceroy of all discovered lands?

[MP3] Ghost Beach – “Miracle”

i never wanted to work for pieces of paper but i guess that’s all i get

♫ Ghost Beach – Miracle

Remember when Ghost Beach absolutely slayed at our SXSW show? I do. While cranking up “Miracle” won’t come close to recreating what I was lucky enough to witness, it will drastically improve whatever you are doing at the moment. Hello summer!

[MP3 & VIDEO] Ghost Beach

We’d be crazy not to post a video from our own SXSW party right?  Now, throw in the fact that Ghost Beach made me feel brilliantly drunk with musical pleasure… well, then we’d be mental not to.   Brandon posted more about their show here.  To top it all off, Ghost Beach just released this absolute gem of a track.  “Faded” is quite literally one of my top tracks of 2012 so far.  It does so well to capture Ghost Beach’s unique electronic sound… and the glitchyness, its glorious.  Cheers to Ghost Beach- a truly awesome show and quality dudes.

[MP3] Ghost Beach – “Too Young”

and i’ll be waiting, when you get older, when you’re over me

♫ Ghost Beach – Too Young

  • Who: Josh Ocean & Doc.
  • What: Retro electro dance party, like Penguin Prison, The Knocks, Gemini Club
  • Where: NYC + Facebook / Bandcamp / Amazon
  • When: A new single every month!
  • Why: One week ago I knew I liked Ghost Beach. After the NY duo tore up one of the last sets of our 4-day marathon party at SXSW I knew I loved Ghost Beach. These guys are straight party time and not afraid to bring the ruckus. The whole room at The Firehouse was grooving along to songs they were hearing for the first time. That’s awesome. “Too Young” is a mega jam (woah guitar solo!) but then again so are the other 2 free tracks they have up on their Bandcamp. Which one is your favorite? Choose fast cause a new one is dropping soon… Sweetness.

[LIVE] SXSW Day 4 Recap + 360° Interviews

Slow Club gives it oh so sweetly.

What can I say about day 4 that wont make you green with St Paddy’s themed envy if you weren’t actually there to witness it? A bonus set by new TBE faves Cherub happened. Plus a lot more varieties of rock (sexy, tender, party, etc). Stay tuned for a proper recap of my favorite shows of the TBE parties but in the meantime read on for the 360 interviews! Read more
