Brandon’s TBE Digest 29 – [10.11.2011] New Jams, Remixes, & Covers!

Artwork by Jacob Youngblood Ziegler

Brandon’s TBE Digest is a place where I gather up all the recent jams that are worth a listen (or 10) but don’t necessarily need their own post. Here you will find new tracks by known bands, remixes, covers, and even mashups if they are interesting. My favorites of the lot are in bold.

It’s a big one folks. Proceed with caution (and good speakers). Also note the new Digest logo that will be here to stay. Enough of that little weird cartoon guy we had for so long, amiright!? Cheers to new beginnings! And new jams!

See that nifty little intro in italics up there? Yeah, it was brought to my attention that these Digests didn’t come with much in the way of explanation and even dedicated TBE readers may not really understand what the heck these are considering I haven’t explained them in about 22 volumes. Oops. Anyway, this Digest has some real jam-a-roonies so quit reading my baloney and get in there!

Remix Roundup Vol. 48 – 7.22.2011 [CSS, Theophilus London, Yelle, Wolf Gang and more…]

We,Joel and Scott, welcome you back.  This time we bring you Remix Roundup Vol. 48.  Damn, that’s a lot.  We can’t believe we’re almost at 50.  Time flies…, too fast these days.  On that note, its time to play a little catch up.

Below we have a mix of mostly new, but some tunes we just missed out on.  Hope you’re hungry, because this is going to take you up a waste size.  Be smart though…  No dancing for at least thirty minutes after ingesting this madness.

Butterfly Bones send us a sweet and shiny XOXO

Butterfly Bones

we know we’re young and gonna get away with it

♫ Butterfly Bones – XOXO

I don’t want to say that the play-list at today’s pool party was bad, because that would be a lie. It was truly great (as well as the burger! Thanks Ryan!) However, it could have used some Butterfly Bones. If I had to put a label on their vibe I would call it feel-good chill-out drink-up sun-shine pop. “XOXO” comes correct in many ways but it’s the back to back synth and guitar solos that pops my bottle. Throw that and a lime in your beer and you are set. Butterfly Bones come out of San Fransisco and are old friends with TBE alums Givers, all having gone to school together at the Summer Jam Academy or something. Their Pretty Feelings EP is out now and packs 4 more sparkling ear-nuggets. Get on it people, they only have 535 listens on Last.fm but with recent props from Silence-Killer and Hot Biscuits, as well as a house-party tour ahead of them, their local gem status is about to bust out.

Givers bounce on a Ceiling of Plankton

givers

you make me feel, you make me blush

Givers – Ceiling of plankton

After yesterday’s rainy gloom we finally got the sun today in Warsaw. What better soundtrack to a sunny day than Givers’ bouncy, “whoo!” infused “Ceiling of Plankton.” Givers are a very young-looking Louisiana five-piece who only have a couple songs on their MySpace but will hopefully continue to rock jams like these.
