[STREAM / COVER] The Young Professionals – “Be With You Tonight” & “Video Games” (Lana Del Rey cover)

should find a faster train, a taxi in the rain, i should be laying now with you in a bed somehow

I don’t know how I missed this new mega dance jam by Tel Aviv favorites The Young Professionals but I’m making up for lost time with repeated listens now. This oversized and infectious love banger also come with a video made of fan photos inspired by the lyrics. And there is also their great Lana Del Rey cover that I also somehow have never posted. I’m sorry.

[MP3] Maya Isacowitz – “Safe and Sound”

feel my body’s intention, no mind can destroy

♫ Maya Isacowitz – Safe and Sound

  • Who: Maya
  • What: Fragile folk, like Joseph & David, Adele, Jessie Ware
  • Where: Tel Aviv, Israel + Facebook
  • When: The Safe & Sound LP is out now.
  • Why: On my trip to Israel in March I met a lot of awesome musicians (who I will be writing more about soon!) but Maya was actually not one of them. Somehow her CD made it into my hands and I was immediately struck by it’s title track. A girl, a guitar, and a piano is not an innovate combo but it’s rarely done this beautifully.

[MP3/VIDEO] Monti Fiori – “Caro Capitano”

???

♫ Monti Fiori – Caro Capitano

  • Who: Itamar, Assa, Or, Irra & Omri.
  • What: Italian surf pop, kinda like Izabo,
  • Where: Tel Aviv, Israel + Facebook
  • When: LP Allegro is out now.
  • Why: I don’t really know how to explain this other than it’s Italian surf pop form Israel. It’s about as weird and fun as you can imagine it would be. Definite old-school influences can be heard. And seen. Like in the great video! I wish I’d been able to catch these guys on my Israeli music trip back in March!

[LP] Acollective – ONWARDS (w/ “Girls” & “Stolen Goods”)

why don’t you try to sleep alone

♫ Acollective – Girls

I just realized that after my post-Israel obsess-fest over “Stolen Goods” (below) I never gave a proper album review of Acollective’s Onwards LP. Well, this won’t be it. Consider it more of a friendly reminder to pour yourself a stiff drink and dive into the rollicking gypsy folk rock of these live-show beasts.

♫ Acollective – Stolen Goods

[VIDEO] Izabo – “I Like It”

Damn. This is sexy. And twisted. Very appropriate for the band that I have been referring to as the Israeli Electric Six. I am really digging the video but the downside is you miss out Izabo’s freaky vibes. Watching video’s of them getting weird is one thing. Seeing it live in person is another treat altogether. What I’m trying to say here is that I have seen them live and you haven’t. Ha. (Thanks Kinetis!) But if you make it to Eurovision this year you can fix that as they are representing Israel! Go Izabo!

[MP3] Acollective – “Stolen Goods”

pack up your things and get out, i can’t stand your taste in my mouth

♫ Acollective – Stolen Goods

  • Who: Idan Rabinovici, Roy Rieck, & 5 other epic dudes.
  • What: Funk folk rock, like Jukebox The Ghost, Gogol Bordello
  • Where: Tel Aviv, Israel + Facebook / Bandcamp / Amazon
  • When: Debut LP Onwards is out now.
  • Why: Quiet the area around you, close your eyes, and let “Stolen Goods” wash over you like the morning tide. It comes it soft before slowly rippling up your ankles and ending in a crash over your body. Having this song introduced to you live is a luxury not many will get but I can tell you it had an effect on me. It was about 27 seconds in before I knew I had to have Acollective at the TBE showcases at SXSW. I did. They rocked other songs too but this one still gripped me something fierce.
  • If the only Israeli music you are familiar with is The Young Professionals (or god forbid Infected Mushroom…) then prepare to have your horizon’s expanded. Don’t worry the process will be painless. However, other side effects may include shivers up your spine, uncontrollable dancing, and maximal merriment. Just see these guys live and you will understand. Or stay tuned for a full album review (& other stories from my trip with Kinetis) although I recommend beating me to the punch and getting your own copy.

[EPIC] Brandon goes to Israel

So thanks to Kinetis and Vibe Israel this is where I will be for the next week. Stay tuned for photos, videos, stories, and music! Try not to hate me while I’m gone.

Oh, and don’t worry. Fresh TBE music posts will still be going down as I’m getting down. You know I got you.
