A Playlist for Stevie’s Postcard Project

So my little buddy Stevie is embarking a pretty big journey tomorrow and I’m trying to help him calm his nerves. He started this Kickstarter project to build some friends to send postcards to. If thats confusing you can check out his project because he explains it better than me. However, I did make him a playlist for his travels and figured I would share it with you guys!

When I played him the playlist he had a few comments I’ll include here. Enjoy and please do check out his project!

Well not “Goodnight” because I haven’t met Warsaw yet so I’m gonna sing “Hello Warsaw!”

Its dark and weird but I like it. Did I just describe my future feelings on London?

Even darker! Woah!

Its like German surf music! But I don’t think I will be surfing in Berlin…

I’m not going to Italy but I appreciate the mention of postcards.

18. Bayside – Phone Call From Poland

They should have called this song “A Postcard from Poland” but maybe that never happened to them. I could fix that!

19. Maximo Park – Postcard Of A Painting

I prefer postcards with pictures of rivers or trees or buildings. Just my personal preference.

20. Europe – The Final Countdown

GAH! The countdown is real and I only have hours to pack! Gotta go! 

[SXSW INTERVIEW] RAC & Joywave talk collaborations, touring, and the art of the remix

RAC is one of my all time favorite remixers who is finally coming into his own with a solid set of original jams. Joywave is one of my all time favorite bands who evolve in fantastic ways with each release. Needless to say, sitting down with both artists was a big honor. We talked about touring, remixing, and how all of them ended up collaborating recently.

Big Data is Daniel Armbruster (vocals, from Joywave) and Alan Wilkis (producer). Both are TBE faves/regulars and have finally got together for some official collaboration. It is both familiar and new in great ways. A creeping bass heavy groover for the whole family! More please!

TBE faves Joywave have never got the love they deserved and their latest stuff is as awesome as ever. They have taken a more dancey and electronic slant since “Golden State” and the 77777 Mixtape but damn it sounds good. “Tongues” features fellow Rochester, NY, peeps KOPPS and sounds like they spent a Red Bull fueled night in the studio with Miike Snow. Damn fresh. Their new 88888 Mixtape features other highlight like “London”, a dark and entrancing piece of ghost-glitch that welcomes movement in the darkness. Dive in and download it all free. Then get into the RAC remix of Tongues for even more delicious funk.

In addition to being long time TBE faves, both Alan Wilkis and Joywave are severely underrated. Cheers to the team-up that produced this dialed back Summer groover that is perfect for sunshine and coastal breezes.

  • When: Koda Vista EP releasing hopefully in March
  • Why: What is there really to say about these guys. If you’ve been around our humble music blog for some time, you know we are down with the fantastic group of guys that is Joywave. Aiming for a darker, more atmospheric feel with “True Grit” they still manage to hit the nail square on the head perfectly. No thumb smashing happening here. Stick around if only for the piano at 2:17; but I’m positive you’ll enjoy the two minutes and sixteen second leading up to it as well.
