When: Their Bon Iver remix album is out now for free.
Why: There are some things that you dont mess with and even though I was kinda underwhelmed by Bon Iver’s last album I would still put him in that category. So a remix EP of Bon Iver songs just sounded like a painful gimmick to me. Then I listened. Specifically, I listened to “Blossom” (a rework of “Re:Stacks”). And then I listened a bunch more. Damn beautiful stuff. The original mixed with just a hint of glitch and groove. Justin Vernon should be stoked. The remixing is delicate, not overwhelming the original material, just shining a different light on it. Surrounding it by different furniture. Changing it’s context. Very nice.
And for you haters out there who won’t like your Bon Iver altered in any way, here is a bonus track from Bon Iver.

♫ Shakira – Loca (feat. Dizzee Rascal) / Shakira is easily my favorite sub-5-foot singer and she is heating it up with Dizzee for some sexy sunset limbo parties!
With this roundup I wanted to kick things off with a couple of great/interesting covers before I get into the dregs of what’s been popping up around the interwebs lately. Remember, these are just my humble opinions and an effort to keep you all abreast of the musical happenings that I don’t cover in their own hyperbole-filled post. If I make a poopy on one of your favorite bands just try not to flip out. We all float in different boats, or whatever.
♫ Major Lazer – Halo / Major Lazer and Elephant Man pay their own special kind of tribute to the Grammy winner with this cover. Not sure if they changed the lyrics or not, kinda hard to understand that dude.
Many of you know Justin Vernon as the guy behind Bon Iver, and one of 2008’s best albums. Well, long before any of us were trying to figure out how to pronounce Iver he was just Justin Vernon. And he recorded a 7 song EP that he titled Hazletons. I would like to say that it’s (kinda) title track is for curious fans who are interested in the genesis of J-dogg’s sound but that would be selling it short. Apparently it wasn’t that cabin in the woods that gave Bon Iver it’s magic, it was in Justin all along. Us assholes just needed a cute backstory of heartbreak and Luddite-esque seclusion to get our attention. Sorry J.
