Kisses – “The Nile”

Just when you thought Monday just wasn’t going to work you hear that bassline creeping over the horizon and suddenly the shadows on your desk start to dance in the afternoon light and the whole day seems a lot more manageable. Thanks Kisses!  Read more

Kisses – “A Groove”

Don’t let the name fool you, this new jam from Kisses has more than just a groove. “Many Grooves”, “Groovefest” or “Bikini Disco Groove Party” would have all been appropriate titles as well. But I’m not one to nitpick the finer points when I’ve got to dust off the roller skates and brush up on my synchronized handclap routine before the weekend. Time to dance!  Read more

[PLAYLIST] The Best REMIXES of 2012 – Part 2 (July-Dec)

Man oh man. Could we be in a better world for fun remixes of great songs? Some of the old guard has been slacking in quality lately (RAC, where you at?) but new talent is cropping up in droves. Cyril Hahn practically made his name from that Destiny’s Child remix. Noah Hyde is on the map with amazing work. Manu el Chino nabs his second spot of 2012. Too many great tracks. Get on it for the weekend and check out all the bands and remixers you may have missed through the years. And especially listen to that Years & Years remix. What a genre flip. Mmmm…..

Be sure to catch all the 2012 “BEST OF” lists!

[2,000th POST!] Remix Roundup RETURN – Vol. 68

Holy cow. 2,000 is a big number. And I know some of you have read/listened to all of them. Thank you guys for the endless support and for giving me a reason to listen to so much crap to find the jams. In celebration of this historic milestone I will be bringing back the Remix Roundups. Sure, a remix may still get its own post from time to time but generally they will be bundled up here as a little party playlist for the weekend or a vacation for your ears while your body slaves at work/school.

This week we have recent TBE fave Noah Hyde remixing a new discovery Wake Owl. 2012 heavy hitter Cyril Hahn funks up that new Haim joint. The Penguin Prison remix of “It’s Time” wont ever be beat but Plastic People give it a solid rework. My beloved Monarchy are finally back! It’s just this Mighty Mouse remix for now but I’m pretty damn excited for more. Atlas Genius get reworked by soon-to-be-covered Wild Cub who in turn get tropical-ized by Kisses. Then Erol Sabadosh takes us from new school Rihanna to old school R. Kelly with some golden Top 40 remixes. Freak funk genie Yalls scuffs up Rhye nicely and a Passion Pit remix by newbie Dream Logic closes us out. Enjoy!

[MP3] Kisses – “Funny Heartbeat”

as the morning comes to us, i believe its time, to tell her everything, where i’ve been and why she cried

♫ Kisses – Funny Heartbeat

  • Who: Jesse Kivel & Zinzi Edmundson
  • What: Throwback sunshine pop, like Tanlines, St. Lucia, Poolside
  • Where: Los Angeles + Facebook
  • When: Probably a new album soon.
  • Why: If Kisses’ blend of chilled out summer love grooves never quite caught your ear then you probably hate sunshine and smiles. Let this cocktail of sounds wash over you and I think you’ll have a new appreciation for Kisses in any season.

SUMMER ROLLS ON /// A Summer Mix, Vol 2

KISSES from BERMUDA. Wish you were here.

i say i should have seen right through it all

♫ Kisses – Bermuda

Listening to Kisses it’s almost impossible to not think of Jens Lekman and that unique croon of his. The band is actually from Los Angeles and recently finished mixing their debut album with Andrew Maury from RAC. I’m even going to let him describe their music ’cause he obviously know what he is talking about.

It conjures a white-tuxedo ‘n sunglasses, cruise-ship journey. Mellow bass, swirling synths, spring reverb’d drum machines, sparkling guitars, and INSANELY catchy, suave melodies. the album has a lot of uplifting jams, moody heartbreak songs, and even some 80’s dark pop vibes.

Well shit, if that isn’t straight up your summertime-fantasy alley then have fun is your gloomy sex dungeon while the rest of us catch rays and swap margarita recipes. LP The Heart Of The Nightlife is out later in the year so start cleaning up that pool/back yard/roof deck/hot tub/yacht now.
