[LP/VIDEO/REMIX] Jupiter – JUICY LUCY [w/ “Juicy Lucy (Needs A Boogeyman)] + Little Boots remix

swims like a dolphin, fresh like a turtle

  • Who: Boy/girlfriend combo Amélie and Quarles
  • What: Space funk disco, like D.A.R.E., Sam Padrul, Toro Y Moi,
  • Where: Paris, France + Facebook
  • When: Buy debut LP Juicy Lucy now.
  • Why: The stellar “ANDY” remix of Jupiter’s “One O Six” was my first introduction to the duo and after that remix made the Best Of The Year list I had to do some research on the original. That led me to their full album, which led me to much chair-dancing at work. Track after track of sparkling, unabashed, disco magic that does not disappoint  The title track is perhaps my favorite and a great video for it actually came out today. Who is Juicy Lucy? Find out below. Then groove on to the Little Boots remix!

[MP3] Little Boots – “Every Night I Say A Prayer”

we all make mistakes, i wanna walk beside you, i’ve gotta keep the faith

♫ Little Boots – Every Night I Say A Prayer

I used to love Little Boots. Then her album Hands came out. And now I guess Little Boots wants to be Madonna. It’s in that album art. It’s in the club anthem lyrics. It’s in the uninspired gay-pandering video (except this part). And it’s in the polished-edge vibe of everything about her these days. But I’m not mad at it. I’ll definitely take a tiny English version of Mads over the real thing.

[LP] Baron Von Luxxury – THE LAST SEDUCTION (w/ “Terry Richardson” & “That Disco Beat (feat. Little Boots)”

take me to the top, don’t ever stop taking me higher now cause i want some, but she’s much too young

♫ Baron Von Luxxury – Terry Richardson

  • Who: Blake Robin.
  • What: “Post-post-synth-pop”, like LCD Soundsystem, Citizens!, Johnny Neon.
  • Where: Los Angeles + Facebook / Bandcamp
  • When: LP The Last Seduction is out now for name-your-price.
  • Why: For a second try to ignore the sweet moniker, killer shoes, topless babe, and baller eagle. Ok, now stop that nonsense and focus on all of them at once as you listen to the sultry sex-disco of Baron von Luxxury. All those things are part of his package (!) and feed flesh-on-flesh dance party vibe that The Baron would surely approve of.

♫ Baron Von Luxxury – That Disco Beat ft. Little Boots

While it’s easy to dismiss Luxxury as a gimmicky act, it’s worth noting that his day job is a writer for Razor & Tie records and he has contributed to songs from artists like The Mae Shi, HEALTH, and Little Boots. He also produces for TBE alums Bullet and Snowfox. The dude is serious about his music and straddles and interesting line between underground and mainstream. You can see some of that pop culture winking at play in the goofy video for “Terry Richardson.” (Like anything related to Terry Richardson it is NSFW) Grab The Last Seduction for whatever you think it’s worth but after scoping other album highlights like the title track and big closer “I’m Not Bad, I’m Just Drawn That Way” I think you’ll find a few dollars for eagle food.

The 29 Best Remixes of 2009

I don’t know about you but 2009 was the year I fell in live with remixes. Starting TBE opened up my world to so many amazing reinterpretations of both great and not so great songs. Having always been more of a cover song guy this was new territory for me but I dove in headfirst and have been enjoying the ride so far. Good music is a personal thing and messing with great music is even more so. This is very much a subjective list and is based on nothing besides how much I love and respect the work done. Oh, and the numbering system is pretty much bullshit but I had to put them in some kind of order. Anyway, enjoy. I certainly have.

Remix Roundup: 10-21-09

skull252As the Remix Roundups enter double digits I decided to drop the incremental titles and go for a more archive-friendly date format. You will thank me someday. About this collection of hot remixes? You can thank me now.

♫ The Very Best – Julia (Javelin Re-do) / This is one of the best remixes I’ve heard in a while. Javelin takes one of the weaker tracks off of TVB’s fantastic album and completly rips it up, turning “Julia” in to a full throttle fist-pumper. [more The Very Best]

♫ The Gossip – Love Long Distance (Fake Blood Remix) / I haven’t even heard the original version of this song yet but i’m worried that after this I am just going to be disappointed. So far The Gossip’s remixes have treated me better than their originals. [more Gossip/FB]

♫ Chester French – She Loves Everybody (Pance Party Remix) / Read more

TBE Exclusive! DJ be and the Slow Burn Summer mix

Big moves are being made over at TBE HQ and one of them is this, The Slow Burn Summer mix, our first DJ mix by local favorite “DJ be” who was kind enough to blend up a fresh-to-death 60 minutes of straight fire. Put in on your iPod, cell phone, CDR, or whatever and then slip on your shimmy-shoes.

The mix is a single file because this thing is too fresh to be skipping tracks. I have, however, embedded a timecoded track-list in the lyrics section of the ID3 tag so you can at least know where you are at (or jump to your favorite part, if necessary). Let me know what you think of this method.

Delphic. is on point (Counterpoint)

just tell me nothing’s wrong, nothing’s wrong, nothing’s wrong today

Delphic – Counterpoint

Today our favorite British pop-pixie Little Boots announced, among other things, a tour with supporting act Delphic. (period included). Touring with Little Boots you say? Hmmm….better check these dudes out. “Counterpoint” huh? I like it…very nice…what? Oh no! I’m floating away on a cloud of flickering keyboards and delicately spastic drums! AAHHhhhhhhh……… Anyway, Delpic. brings the space-rock like a more ethereal Friendly Fires or a less whiny Angels & Airwaves. Ride the space cloud!

Little Boots – New In Town (Fred Falke remix)

It is also recommended that you ride this remix of Little Boots new song. Its about visiting L.A. and having someone show you around that crazy city. So basically its about me. That’s awesome. The original hasn’t dropped yet but oooo-eeee this is hot. I’m so pumped for this album.

Bury your face in MySpace (Delphic. really pimped it out)
