Lykke Li is back and cutting to the point with her signature steamy swagger. The primal “Get Some” is basically big drums and innuendo-free vocals with a few breaks for some heavy “oooh ooohhh”s. Yeah, definitely put this one on the next mix-tape for someone you are trying to woo. In fact, get started on that with the cool interactive lyrics widget at her website where you can send individual lyrics to friends/twitter/facebook. There you can also get ahold of the single’s B-side “Paris Blue,” the mellower afterglow to “Get Some”‘s sweaty romp. This Swede is always full of surprises and I’m curious what gems she’ll have on her next album. For now this a pretty sweet 1-2 punch of Lykke goodness.

Holy shit. I just finished putting together this Roundup and it’s a beast! Fantastic remixes of Miike Snow, La Roux, Lykke Li, Phoenix, MSTRKRFT, Daniel Merriweather, and oh so many more. I won’t waste much time here cause you people have work to do after the jump. Oh, and regular readers will notice a few new features. I hope they make your Roundup experience just that much more buttery smooth.
How freaking crazy is it that 2009 is already halfway over? What a crazy year so far, in so many ways, the least of which is all of the fantastic, surprising, and sometimes disappointing music that has come our way. TBE will be 5 months old in a week and we have been chronicling most of the year’s jams. Here are my top 20.9. I guarantee you wont agree with all of them but doesn’t that just make our friendship that much more deep and meaningful? Just so we are clear how I arrived at this particular order, I’ve selected my favorites from my top listens each month and then ordered them purely by total play count. I know that’s confusing but whatever, the list is after the jump.

I know Lykke Li’s music. I like some of it. I knew she was playing in NYC last night. I didn’t stress too much about it. That is until a twist of events put me in a booth at the Highline Ballroom 5 minutes before she went on. Then everything changed. She came onstage with 3 dapper dudes backing her on various instruments. She ripped right into “Dance Dance Dance” and brought energy that rivals any of the remixes.
Lykke jumped and writhed around the stage with a presence and swagger that blew me away. At only 23 she performs like she has been doing this for years. She owns the stage and had everyone’s eyes locked on her as if blinking would somehow stop the how. I was a little bit in love.
Throughout her set Lykke was armed with a drumstick (see photo above) that she would beat on anything from the mic stand to a tambourine to an actual drum. Fantastic. And then there was the Kings Of Leon cover. Ho. Ly. Smokes. If you thought you loved it in your earphones you should try it all up in your eye balls.
Lykke basically ripped through Youth Novels as if it was 2008’s top electro/disco record. Drums were heavy and sharp, synths were funked out, and Lykke just worked it. Hard. “Complaint Department” became a full on rave track.
All I can say about the experience is that it was epic. If Lykke comes to your town don’t miss out. I’m fully converted to the Cult of Li and if you aren’t already sold on her power then get there. Did I mention she covered “A Milli”? Yeah. Fa-resh.
I tidied my jaw up off the floor and humbly shuffled home to dwell in the memory of it all. Anyway, that’s it for my ramblings and the remixes but here are a few more B-sides and a live Vampire Weekend cover to complete my little Lykke fest.

Big moves are being made over at TBE HQ and one of them is this, The Slow Burn Summer mix, our first DJ mix by local favorite “DJ be” who was kind enough to blend up a fresh-to-death 60 minutes of straight fire. Put in on your iPod, cell phone, CDR, or whatever and then slip on your shimmy-shoes.
The mix is a single file because this thing is too fresh to be skipping tracks. I have, however, embedded a timecoded track-list in the lyrics section of the ID3 tag so you can at least know where you are at (or jump to your favorite part, if necessary). Let me know what you think of this method.

Yo, for real, it’s the weekend and its time to shake your moneymaker (not implying y’all are strippers or whatever). I stumble across a ton of awesome remixes as I surf this information ether-highway of ours. I don’t like giving them dedicated posts cause 1) not everyone is super into remixes and 2) I don’t want to dilute the attention that should be given to new artists. You feel me? I knew you would. So anyway, I am starting another new feature at TBE where I round up some of the sweetest remixes of late and toss ’em at you without any of the usual garnish you find in a normal post. Who knows how often I’ll do it but they wont all be this big, I just had a lot of goodies to share. Anyway, listen, love, download, dance! Just do it after the jump.
