Saint Motel – “Get Free” (Major Lazer Cover)

For some reason I never really got into the Major Lazer original of “Get Free” but this Saint Motel version kicks up just enough jungle dust to get me moving. Damn. Where is my cocktail? Happy Friday!

[REMIX] Major Lazer – “Get Free (Hannes Fischer Breakfast Mix)”

look at me, i just cant believe what they’ve done to me

♫ Major Lazer – Get Free (Hannes Fischer Breakfast Mix)

The new Major Lazer track “Get Free” is a big departure from the electronic wildin’ out of 2009. It’s also a departure from being engaging. Thank goodness for remix magicman Hannes Fischer who is currently batting 1000. Ride that slow burn style that made his “Video Games” remix one of the best of 2011.

A Dirty, Filthy, Halloween Mix 10.26.2011

Hello my pretties.

Whether you’re a music fan or a Dj looking to fill your Halloween mix, you’ve reached that dark place.  This bass-heavy mix oozes with that scary stuff.  The stuff that fills your nightmares in your sleep.  If you fancy getting your wits scarred out of you, then proceed.

Warning: If your face starts melting call a Doctor and no, that girl dressed as a sexy Doctor may serve a purpose, but that ain’t it.

Side note: Thanks to Figure for making this mix easy to fill.

} TBE Digest 6 – 2.24.10 [Gorillaz, Lil Wayne, Major Lazer, B.o.B., Broken Social Scene, …]

These Digest’s are tough to do because there are really only two emotions I feel while writing them: disappointment and bewilderment. The former for bands I love that are delivering sub-par baloney and the latter for bands other people love who are delivering sub-par baloney. These opinions are of course only my own and that’s why I persist with this series, because others may be really into these tracks and that is great. Different strokes, ya know. On the other hand, some may just be curious as to what different bands are up to these days. Read it for any reason you want, but know that I write it out of a simple desire to pass along the recent happenings in my musical world that I don’t feel are worthy of their own post. (There seemed to have been some confusion last time) Anyway, read on, trudge through, wade in, sally forth, whatever, just know that this edition is exceptionally long for whatever reason but there are some fun covers awaiting you at the end.

} TBE Digest 5 – 2.10.10 [Major Lazer, Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, The Knife, & more!]

With this roundup I wanted to kick things off with a couple of great/interesting covers before I get into the dregs of what’s been popping up around the interwebs lately. Remember, these are just my humble opinions and an effort to keep you all abreast of the musical happenings that I don’t cover in their own hyperbole-filled post. If I make a poopy on one of your favorite bands just try not to flip out. We all float in different boats, or whatever.

♫ Major Lazer – Halo / Major Lazer and Elephant Man pay their own special kind of tribute to the Grammy winner with this cover. Not sure if they changed the lyrics or not, kinda hard to understand that dude.

Remix Roundup Vol. 16 – 2.5.10

Another collection of recent remixes for your listening pleasure. Some real gems in a here and a few others that are more “interesting” than “awesome.” Read on. Rock om. And if you want more jams by any of these artists use the ‘tags’ links at the bottom of the post!

♫ Vampire Weekend – Cousinz (Toy Selectah Mex-More Remix) / The challenge of the evening is going to have more fun than this remix. It’s as if the song itself is grinning from ear to ear. And jumping up and down.

♫ Boy 8-Bit – Baltic Pine (Run Hide Survive Remix) / Remixing an instrumental track is tricky territory. Without a well known vocal track to lean on how do you make it your own while still maintaining the original’s integrity and awesomeness? Definitely tricky, but good to know it’s not impossible.
